A handful of games into the season
Almost zero data
Who is winning the Calder for Rookie of the Year this season?

Who is winning the Calder for Rookie of the Year this season?
Why not?60% Michkov
20% Celebrini
20% Stankoven
defenseman won't win calder, zero chance
Because they only look at points. Faber last season 50 points, 25min TOI, 1st PP 1st PK, still wasn't even close to the trophy. Why not?
I agree that faber should have won it (only had 47 points though), but it's not like Bedard didn't have a very productive year. And Faber still finished 2nd in the voting.Because they only look at points. Faber last season 50 points, 25min TOI, 1st PP 1st PK, still wasn't even close to the trophy.
sounds like you should nominate him for the jaques beauchamp trophyI'm going with Hutson, to the surprise of nobody
The dude is PPG, and already Play 20+ minutes per Game. He doesn't even have 10 Games of experience and he's already arguably our best defensemen (or second, if you rank Guhle above him)
Sky is the limit for the kid
That's objectively false.Because they only look at points. Faber last season 50 points, 25min TOI, 1st PP 1st PK, still wasn't even close to the trophy.

7 points is not a big gap and when Makar won there were no good forwards. We've also recently had the following defenseman win the Calder:
Seider - 50 points (13 behind Bunting)
Makar - 50 points (3 behind Hughes)
Ekblad - 39 points (25 behind Gaudreau)
Myers - 48 points (7 behind Duchene)
We haven't seen a rookie defenseman break 55 points in the cap era (Makar and Hughes would have in a full season). So I would imagine if Hutson does that he'll get some serious consideration regardless of how far he is behind the leaders.
why would the writers care about draft position? That makes zero sense7 points is not a big gap and when Makar won there were no good forwards.
I think another very important factor is the draft position.
Ekblad 1st overall - Gaudreau 104th overall
Seider 6th overall - Bunting 117th overall
Bedard 1st overall - Faber 45th overall
Celebrini 1st overall/Michkov 7th overall - Hutson 62nd overall
