Conversation over now. If you think Tavares is the difference in this team winning a Cup or not next season, then there's no point in even debating with you, either. That's ridiculous, if I'm being nice about it. Talk about a homer take. :shakehead

I think this team has good talent, and I'm always very optimistic about them, but there are at least 4-5 holes on this team, and Tavares doesn't patch all of them.
I don't know, Tavares makes this team way better, and if Crow is healthy, they are easily a playoff team with Crow. The Vegas Knights who no one saw making the playoffs, are playing for the Cup. You really never know what could happen, with a revitalized Q, or coaching change, adding Tavares, and tweaking the back end, I think this team could play with the best of them.

I don't see anyway to make this team much better with the options available, unless we completely give up on this coming year and hope for a big name D the following year. Our prospects are not good enough to make us a Cup contender in the next 3-5 years.

If the Hawks were to go with the youth movement then they need to trade Saad, Murphy, Rutta, Anisimov, load up on picks and go for Jack Hughes.

That’s obviously not gonna happen. Bowman might not even have a job in two years. He’s not sitting on all that cap space unless Rocky and McD give him the green light to extend the re-tool window.

I’d prefer to go that route but I don’t see it going that route. They’ll spend the money. And that all leads back to my preference for JT over Carlsson, JvR, De Haan et.

You can spend money without putting it all in one basket, or locking it into 7 year deals. He's not going to sit on the money, it will be spent.

Sums it up for me too. No interest in a hodge podge of decent to good players, no interest in trading valuable futures in a trade, prefer youth movement but if it must be spent, spend it on a superstar.

We’re completely f***ed if they sign JVR and De Haan to big contracts.

The D isn’t getting fixed next year via UFAs anyway so f*** it, at least make the top 9 fun.

I deleted the post, lol. Worn out with the debate.

It would be fun, I guess. Only way this team is a contender this coming season, though, is if they are able to draft a D with the #8, and he immediately looks like a top pairing guy in camp. Then Tavares might work. But I still foresee issues with losing one of Schmaltz or Cat to the cap if Tavares is here. And the goalie question mark... because Crow is a gigantic, glaring question mark right now.

I really do think the Hawks will make a move for one of the top D FAs this season. I just don't know what they're going to pay, and for how long. I think Tavares is more just a dream. There hasn't been anything even linking the Hawks to interest in him, AFAIK.

Things can't be fixed in one off season, so lets sign a 7 year deal that could potentially prevent them from being fixed over 7 seasons? I just don't understand that logic. It's short sited.

I completely agree with all of that lol.

Thinking John Carlsson if he hits the market.

Moore would make sense if they go for multiple pieces. Cheaper AAV, connection to Chicago, etc.

McD gotta be itching for a big press conference though. Its been a while.

I've been leaning towards one of Moore or de Haan. I see them as being hesitant to signing Carlson to a massive deal considering what has happened with Seabs falling off a cliff. Especially if they need to add another piece, like potentially a starting goalie or something. It all depends on Crow's status, honestly. If Crow is out, expect one of de Haan or Moore, + a starting goalie.

Ok I'll play along, signing Tavares + fixing D somehow...

Tavares: 10.5M x 7
J.Moore: 4M x 4

Anisimov to CLB for picks+Gabriel Carlsson
Saad to FLA for picks+Pysyk
Rutta to TOR for Leivo

Debrincat-Tavares-Hayden
Leivo-Schmaltz-Kane
Sikura-Toews-Duclair
Hinostroza-Kampf-Jurco
Edjsell
DiDomenico
Kahun?

Keith-Pysyk
Moore-Murphy
Forsling-Seabrook
Gustafsson

Crawford
Forsberg

Hayden becomes the Anders Lee on the JT91 line.
Kane and Schmaltz continue to develop chemistry, add a big bodied skilled LW RH shot in Leivo.
Toews has some speed on his wing to get offense going.
Hino-Kampf-Jurco were great together last year, so keep em together.

Pysyk is a good PMD, who plays a simple, steady game. Not saying hes a top pair guy, but could complement Keith.
Moore is also a great PMD, with experience. Can help shelter Forsling.

Edzo/Pierre/Doc just talked about how much better Kempny looks in Washington and Edzo chimes in "he's a lot more comfortable, he knows if he makes a mistake he'll be back out there next shift."

How the hell would Eddie know :sarcasm:....

Two things that come to mind right now that are major strikes against Q this year...not finding a way to give Cat more than 14 minutes a game, especially toward the end of the year when the season was out of reach. And then not finding a way to develop Kempny when the D was horrible all year. How could he not find him consistent minutes. Just unacceptable.

This team gave up a 3rd for Tomas Jurco who showed absolutely nothing in Detroit. And then turn around and gave away a guy many on this board knew could handle a #4-5 role easily for a 3rd. Ever since 2015 it's just one mistake after another. We used to be on the good end of these deals.

Would love to know how Bowman feels watching a guy like Kempny go out and have success and take the heat for giving him away when it's the coach he probably doesn't want around anymore that is the reason for getting hosed on the deal in the first place.

For the 3rd year in a row, a dman that was not good enough for Joel Quenneville will be playing top 4 minutes in the Stanley Cup Final.

Are you counting Daley for two of those? Can’t recall anybody else that might have been in last year SCF.
