Look, I don't completely think this is crazy because if I didn't know HF existed I might be one of those people.
It’s not hard to see why when the media and even the coaches talk about hockey like it’s this battle of willpower and determination. Like would it kill an NHL coach to talk about hockey as if they actually like the sport?

Lavi is what, like 60? He started as a hotshot babyfaced guy for the Islanders and maybe at the time he was on the cutting edge but at the end of the day he's still 60. I feel like hockey has a very lame aura about toughness that it's basically the only thing worthy of anything. And as a result there are a lot of old school people that hate analytics because they care way more about intangibles. Every other sport embraced analytics to a certain extent. But hockey is old school and they care about intangibles and hockey mythology more than trying to be the best you could be. Now, the one thing that is giving me hope is that if he was completely oblivious to analytics and looked at the game like fans do I think he would have demoted Miller a long time ago. He's not tough and he does make a lot of mistakes with the puck. It was very easy for him to put Lindgren back with Fox but he didn't (especially after the Caps game). This makes me wonder how much of this is about hockey mythology and how much of it is politics. Lindgren is obviously a well liked veteran. But I think if Lavi was a complete dinosaur Fox would be playing with Lindgren by now.

I think the problem is that teams that base their identity on toughness also win cups. But it's like everyone ignores the fact that they're tough and good and instead just focus on the toughness and it doesn't matter if the players are actually good.

The only question I have right now is do we need to trade for one defenseman or two?

The xG% for the bottom four last night was downright scary. I’m not sure if just inserting Jones or adding one competent LD is gonna be enough.

More of the same. Where is the team from the first 6 or so games?

Only difference is Lindgren and Panarin playing at a Gretzky record breaking pace

We have a very expensive and ineffective 4th line with Kreider Mika.

Lindgren Trouba is working just as we expected. Blocked shots is almost as good as goals

Schneider Trouba was working as well as one could have hoped. There was no reason to nuke it.

Lindgren looks even worse than he did last year.

Thing I don't get is the Sens came in and played exactly as advertised. What was the game plan, run and gun with them ? Or did they not listen to Lav?

Wow … the shipped has sailed ..the window has closed on this group..

I hate when these times come to your franchise. We came very close with this collection. However, this is not a playoff hockey team. Do not be surprised if we are sellers at the market deadline - or sooner..

Making the stench even worse;
Igor is masking our deficiency deficiencies… Much like Stanton and Judge masked the Yankees deficiencies much like Micah Parsons masked the Cowboys defense -playing the role of Superman just as Igor is in blue.
Those teams fail when it mattered most and you already know this we just saw it happen three days ago .

Crazily enough enough you couldn’t even trade Jacob Troiba right now he’s our best d man - but there’s a massive problem in this clubhouse since they dumped Barclay Goodrow and shit on Jacob Trouba via the media …this is bad - you can see it on the ice and this coach is a year away from doing desk work @ espn 2 between periods - he has no control … he told the gm to dump captain Jake - you think it’s going smoove? @ Travelling, outings etc ?

Around Christmas time things will implode - you can’t sustain 40 soga - 10 high danger zone shots a game…

Not trading Trouba has only yet begun to burn a hole in our asses.

Mika signed until 2030..

Twenty thirty

There is zero ZERO forecheck - Kreider looks lost - Mika has stopped playing hockey - no physicality - jerking Matt Rempe around - I don’t see him finishing the year with us .

K’Andre Miller is a fraud .

Btw how bout that Brennan Othman … some player “ untouchable “

Amid all this negativity, there is some truth to this post from the Sens board:
Ottawa was the better team tonight but this 'Rangers are frauds' narrative is complete BS. The best teams know how to squeak out points in all situations - that's exactly what separates the top of the crop from the rest of the league. Play a mediocre home game, get outshot 40-20, and come out with 2 points in the standings. That's exactly what the Sens are missing to take the next step.

I agree. I'm not trying to imply everything is roses with the team. I just don't buy into the sky is falling narrative when we are 7-2-1 and only a little over 10% of the way through the season. I choose to believe that if what we've seen the past 2 games actually continues long term that changes (as much as can in season) will be made. Let's not forget that this team, even the youngsters, have a lot of playoff experience already. Taking nights off, not giving 100% throughout the season is something I very much expect to happen with this bunch. That in itself you could argue is concerning, but where did the President's Trophy get us last year?

I think we have to live and die with Zib this year. So hopefully our 3rd line taking the next step takes a bunch of weight off the top 6. The defense on the other hand, needs some major surgery between now and April.
Playoff experience means crap when the same "star" players disappear in the playoffs every season. It's no coincidence that those same players have contracts that are preventing us from making the changes we really need to make.

The easiest path to beat the Rangers is to stay out of the penalty box. While the Sens lost, it was a close game and they only took two minor penalties, including one that was interrupted halfway by a Kreider hooking penalty.

There are of course many other ways to win but the GWG ended up being a power play goal by Laf. The Panthers were more disciplined last season and won the cup. Vagus has consistently been one of the least penalized teams in the league and they won the cup the year before.

Until the Rangers get better at 5v5, this will continue to be their downfall because the best power play in the world means nothing if your opponent stays out of the box.

You guys are so weird.
We are 7-2-1 and Jones isn’t even particularly good. Being stuck in your own zone in a few games is fine if you win. Honestly not sure what people want from a season. I’m delighted how we have started
