Look, I don't completely think this is crazy because if I didn't know HF existed I might be one of those people.
It’s not hard to see why when the media and even the coaches talk about hockey like it’s this battle of willpower and determination. Like would it kill an NHL coach to talk about hockey as if they actually like the sport?

Lavi is what, like 60? He started as a hotshot babyfaced guy for the Islanders and maybe at the time he was on the cutting edge but at the end of the day he's still 60. I feel like hockey has a very lame aura about toughness that it's basically the only thing worthy of anything. And as a result there are a lot of old school people that hate analytics because they care way more about intangibles. Every other sport embraced analytics to a certain extent. But hockey is old school and they care about intangibles and hockey mythology more than trying to be the best you could be. Now, the one thing that is giving me hope is that if he was completely oblivious to analytics and looked at the game like fans do I think he would have demoted Miller a long time ago. He's not tough and he does make a lot of mistakes with the puck. It was very easy for him to put Lindgren back with Fox but he didn't (especially after the Caps game). This makes me wonder how much of this is about hockey mythology and how much of it is politics. Lindgren is obviously a well liked veteran. But I think if Lavi was a complete dinosaur Fox would be playing with Lindgren by now.

I think the problem is that teams that base their identity on toughness also win cups. But it's like everyone ignores the fact that they're tough and good and instead just focus on the toughness and it doesn't matter if the players are actually good.
