Ed could be the next Makar or he could be a second pairing offensive d man. And Detroit has a lot of future NHLers in the farm but no one that is likely to be a star player.

Not to takeaway from anything you are saying but Joe Sakic took a lot of heat for the Duchene saga that went on for like a year.

You must not have been on this board when the Avs hit rock bottom in that 48pt season... I clearly remember some Avs fans contemplating getting the pitchforks out and threads being made comparing him to Benning/Chiarelli/etc.

By that point, aside from the Duchene drama, a lot of the heat at that point was similar to what Yzerman is currently facing. Wasted cap on signings that were quickly seen as overpayment (Iginla, Soderberg, Erik Johnson extension, etc.) and trades that either went sour right after being made or where it looked like Sakic got handily fleeced.

To Sakic's credit, he was able to clean up the cap mess and turn it around. I sure hope Yzerman has a Makar-like pick and can get some gems like Nichushkin and Toews in the near future.

The length that people go to defend this trade is crazy. If our GM wasn't named Yzerman he would be catching so much shit right now.

I don't think people are defending Yzerman as much as brining basic common sense to the discussion. Something happened behind the scenes that you will never know about. He was even healthied by SJS, and he gave his version of the story he decided to give.

Larkin said measured were taken and dealt with over the offseason. Where there's smoke there's fire. In this case it's an inferno!

Or you can stay in denial and be mad about clouds in the sky.

My BS radar has always said something behind the scenes happened with Walman, something we'll never know. Player on player crime with girls, etc. Coaches didn't like him personally, something.

There's just no way(imo) Yzerman thought it was a good idea to trade for him, resign him, then trade him away with a pick. It's never made sense outside of something happened internally, likely, not even involving Yzerman at all he just had to choose sides.

I didn't check his numbers this season, I believe he (and Hughes) has been injured.
However he had great numbers last season and was a top 10 dman in the league.
Anyhow all 3 put very good and even great numbers.

Should have checked at the end of the season. He wasn't top 10 for the year and isn't this year either.

Copp, Compher, Holl, the goalie revolving door, Fester, the former Red Wings boys club that has incompetent people in key positions (Draper et al), etc. Yzerman has way more than a few bad moves. Yzerman has been GM for over half a decade and this team is as bad as it was when he started and still years away from truly turning the corner. I love Yzerman and want him to succeed but he’s high on his own supply and needs a wake up call so he can shake up the organization and get some better people and players on the team.
