Speculation: Waiver Wire - Which player are you most concerned about losing?

Ottawa: Matt Puempel

Boucher wants only 12 forwards which would likely mean Puempel is on the outside looking in.

That said, it's a pretty mild concern. He's had his chances to crack the roster and hasn't. Pretty much every team has their own Puempel type. I still want to believe he becomes a 20-25 goal scorer in the NHL but that flies in the face of most of the evidence at the moment.

Puempel had 3 goals in 6 exhibition games. I'm not sure what evidence you are talking about

Who would Canucks fans say is a better bet for an NHL career between Corrado and Pedan and why?

Corrado has showed well this pre-season, so unless there is someone they really like I think he's earning his spot.

Corrado for sure. Pedan is a hot head and opponents have learned all you gotta do is get under his skin and he spends the rest of the game running around like an idiot and taking stupid penalties.....

Having watched every game other than the Jets game, his scoring totals could be misleading.

Dzingel and Varone played much better every game they played, and a player like Paul probably fits the 4th line with players like Kelly and Neil better than Puempel does.

With that said, Paul didnt really do much either so theres not much point in waiving Puempel for him when were talking about 4th liners here.

Barring someone going on IR the Jets may wave either Lowry or Burmistrov, and may wave Hutchinson as well.

As a leafs fan (who have the first claim on the waiver wire) I'd be thrilled if Lowry goes to waivers

Someone on the Buffalo board said we have to put Justin Bailey through waivers. If that is true, it's very, very concerning.

Edit: he's safe. In that case, nobody.

Yeah, Bailey is definitely not waiver wire eligible. He was already sent down without having to pass thru waivers. It's only his 2nd pro season.

No way they'd risk losing him on waivers anyway, if that were the case.

Yeah, there's nobody I'm worried about getting claimed from Buffalo.
I'd say Joel Armia if he were still a Sabre...

There are few if any waiver wire guys that are worth fretting over - 7-8 d'men and 5th line forwards.

Because of the cap, there are few if any teams so deep that their castoffs are real treasure.

Neither but if I had to choose it would probably be Corrado. Pedan is slow and doesn't process the game at a good enough level. I have a hard time seeing him solve that.

A dime a dozen player is a fringe NHL'er, not a 23 year old who just lead his country (Switzerland.. so basically with no help) in scoring at the World Championships.

Those things aren't mutually exclusive.

He has 4 goals in 39 regular season games... which is more important?

The guy who won fastest skater on the Canucks is slow?

For the Bruins, if they sign Ehrhoff I'm concerned they will waive Joe Morrow, whose has a pretty good camp/preseason and I don't like giving up on young D-men.

The only guy the Oilers can really worry about losing is Yakupov... and it's not like I'd care a whole lot if we lost him to waivers at this point... it's just so concerning that stupid former management wasted a 1st overall pick.

The Oilers had so many 1st OA picks they were bound to get one right eventually.

Seguin > Hall
Landeskog > RNH
Almost everyone > Yakupov
McDavid > literally everyone

At least they got the most important one right.

Hoffman had 3 goals in his first 30 games just so you know.

Puempel has always been a very respectable goal scorer, I wouldn't count him out so fast. He has a top 5 shot in the Sens organization. (Dorion last year at camp stated he may have 2nd best to Hoffman)

I do know and as I said I'm really rooting for Puempel and I haven't written him off. However, the fact is the overwhelming majority of players who score 3 in 30 do not go on to become 30 goal scorers, Hoffman is the exception.

Which teams, if any, are not down to 23 players (plus injuries of course)? Which teams still need to make cuts? Are there more players expecting to hit waivers tomorrow?
