Mark McNeill seems destined for the wire and its never fun losing a first round pick

Jets: Biggest concern is not who will we lose to waivers but who might not be waived. Strait, Stuart, Pavelec

I hope the Avs don't keep him just for that reason. It's been 5 years since he was drafted, that ship isn't even on the horizon anymore.

He was the youngest guy in that draft (birthday is 8 days before eligibility deadline) and he's had some injuries that have slowed his development. He just turned 23, which is still pretty young for a defensive prospect.

If he can be a decent bottom pairing D and PK specialist, he could easily have a spot on the Avs this season.

Someone on the Buffalo board said we have to put Justin Bailey through waivers. If that is true, it's very, very concerning.

Edit: he's safe. In that case, nobody.

His draft year was his best year and was 5 season ago. The guy was a man among boys physically his draft year so dominated but he really hasnt been anything special since. based on his regression during draft +1 and draft +2 seasons he is not a 1st round player and should have no issues clearing the waivers.

Canucks:

Emerson Etem - Hasn't shown his best form so there is a chance he is sent down. I like what he brought to the team towards the end of the season last year and it would sting if he get's claimed. I'm pretty sure he makes the team based on his performance last season.

Andrey Pedan - His size, toughness and upside is probably something another team could view as worth taking a gamble on. Hasn't played bad at all but others fighting for the same spot have just shown better.

Alex Biega - He fought his way onto the NHL team last season as a 27 year old rookie. A real AHL veteran that would be an important player for Utica if he makes it through waivers. Like Pedan, others have just impressed more. A guy you can't help but like and root for.

Sidenote:

No clue why Granlund was mentioned by another poster. He's had a very good preseason and has shown he is ready to go this year.

Brendan Gaunce has had a great preseason and has played his way onto to the team. Other notable standouts:

Troy Stecher - He could make the NHL this year, he's been one of the Canucks best defenders. It all depends on if the Canucks are ready to risk losing someone on waivers to keep him up. They showed they were ready to do that with Corrado when Hutton played his way onto to the team last season. Wouldn't say no to another success story like Hutton

Tuomo Ruutu - I never thought I'd say it when he was handed a PTO. He has really fought for a spot and played some good hockey. Not sure if it's enough to get a contract but he's impressed the coaching staff and has shown he wants to be in Vancouver

Joseph Labate - Mr. Unknown for most fans. Has been like a young Alex Burrows out there. Wouldn't count him out from making the NHL this season.

Richard Bachman - Very impressive in his showings. He will get sent down, but I didn't put him on players I would be worried about losing on waivers. Firstly, I don't think there are many teams in need for a backup like him and Utica would already have an impressive tandem in Demko and Garteig. He's impressed though. I'm guessing we will see Demko getting mentored by Bachman in Utica this year while Garteig spends some time loaned to another AHL team or plays for the Aces in the ECHL.

NYR - Marek Hrivik

Good camp, solid preseason. Looks bigger, playing smart positionally sound hockey.

Is buried on the depth chart.

Who would Canucks fans say is a better bet for an NHL career between Corrado and Pedan and why?

Corrado has showed well this pre-season, so unless there is someone they really like I think he's earning his spot.

If Andrighetto were put on waivers him but I'm fairly sure he makes the team. If he were to be put on waivers he would get claimed for sure.

funny how many fans think their waiver wire players will absolutely get picked up yet rarely do

with the MacArthur injury... no one...

Puemple & Dzingle will most likely do the team now & Paul still have 1 year on his ELC

Nobody really for the Blues. If Rattie doesn't make the team it's time to cut bait with him. I think he will make the team though. Other than that our waiver eligible players have either already passed through waivers recently, or I don't really care much if we lose them.

Very true, everyone overvalues their own guys to some degree.

Only name in this whole thread that I was remotely intrigued by was Sproul. Everyone else named so far will pass from my perspective.

Folin for the Wild is the only possibility. Young, cheap, D-first RHD, that would be a #6 on some teams, ceiling is #4D (imo)

I hope whoever Calgary puts on waivers get's picked up.

That would be great

The only one I'd worry is maybe Wotherspoon. That being said, I agree. There's probably more concern regarding whether we would like to give Nakladal another contract over losing a guy on waivers.

If losing Duncan friggin Siemens is your biggest worry then Avs are fine in terms of waivers. I dont see a single NHL team that would claim Siemens to play him on their active NHL roster.

LOL this. There is a whole breed of Dmen that just don't fit the current game. Shame, as Siemens probably would have been ok in 1996.
