Hes nothing like Gallagher. Gallagher has negative amounts of skills.

Benson is the best playmaker in the draft, has insane hands (top 3 in the draft), a better skater and shooter than Gallagher and he doesnt just put his head down and run into the goaltender.

Also hes not a f***ing whiner and loser.
Yeah, I see more Clayton Keller in Benson than Brendan Gallagher.

The comparison I use, stylistically, is Crosby. They play a really similar game, and their game is centered around their IQ, some of the best hands and problem solving but somehow never flashy, same size as draft eligibles, too.

Of course Benson isnt gonna be Crosby, but even 80% or Sid is an elite player.

Apparently, Canucks are very interested in Benson. They took him out for dinner to meet with management during the combine week.

If Bedard is set to be a generational talent then Benson is very close to be a generational talent himself.

I took each player's top 20 games with their highest shots on goal respectively and wanted to see what kind of an impact that had on their team's success.

I did not count their PP goals and assists as i deem 5vs5 and 4vs5 a much better measure for a player's actual impact on the team.

Conclusion, aside from the PP points and the increased number of shots i do not see the generational gap between Bedard and Benson.

Is Benson a generational talent? I mean he's making a good team better. Bedard on the other hand had no impact on his team's performances.

Benson is nowhere near a generational talent. Best case scenario he becomes a superstar. Quite possible he becomes a star player.

Whats your argument for considering Bedard as a generational talent then?

The whole premise of the argument is: if Bedard is considered to be a generational talent.

Why would you choose “each player's top 20 games with their highest shots on goal respectively” as the sample for evaluation? I’m not challenging you, I’m curious what the thought process is.

For my money, I would pick Benson 3rd overall after Bedard & Michkov.
I’d definitely take Bedard and Fantilli over Benson. Probably Carlsson. But that’s it. I’d have Benson 4th.

I felt like shots on goal is a good indicator of how active a player is in a game. It takes time to compile all the data and watch the highlights so i felt 20 is a good sample size.

I wanted to first get a glimpse of how efficient they were and how they were getting their production before diving deeper.

How do the ratios look if you take their top 50 games? The thing about Bedard is he can play Bensons “best game” for an entire season.

Don’t get me wrong - I love Benson. But that’s like saying take some guy who had 5 100% test scores and a bunch of Cs, and then take another guy who was valedictorian - now compare their top 5 test performances and say they are close.

Idk why that’s the analogy I went with im on a 6 hour flight with 2 toddlers and my brain is fried.

I’m not arguing - I wanted Flyers to trade up for Benson somehow. It wasn’t likely but I had delusional hopes.
I think when you're the best player on the best team it speaks volumes on how good you are.

He had the highest +/- of his team and second overall, hes a clutch player, plays good D, has a good shot but he was simply not using it as much, his shot% is equal to Bedard's

The only knock on him is that he's smaller, 15 lb lighter than Bedard
