It's literally like wearing shoes, you don't notice with a good set.

I actually don't think the future of VR will be glasses. I think it'll be lightweight visors. It'll be larger to isolate your senses, lighter via a projection either external or from your head, and it might even be created to isolate and add olfactory and humidity to the experience without it wisping away. Think of what a Quarian from mass effect looks like. But imagine that thing is ultra light weight without wrapping around the entire head. At least what I think will happen at approx 10 years away from this point in time.

Some of the cyberpunk ideas people have, I think that's more of a 20-30 year thing if even and a lot of what is described in that IP is considered negative with dudes melting down due to illegal mods, which is why it won't happen. Why do people think that is the future? lol.

A whole lot of clueless people making assumptions and spreading hearsay about VR in this thread. You all should try it for real. VR is amazing. Some talk about the social aspect missing, but unless you literally want to feel the other persons hand physically when you high five, everything else is still there to make it a social experience. Nausea concerns? You can get rid of the nausea by acclimatizing yourself to VR slowly at first. Some experiences and games are worse than others, but sitting in a seat watching a hockey game isn't going to be one of them. I own 4 different VR headsets and I cannot wait to see what they do next with it. There are some absolutely amazing things to do and see in VR right now, let alone when they keep improving everything. Stop being afraid of new technology.

I have NOT read thru everything, but I wonder if there will come a time when we can see the game (live) through a players / ref's perspective?

I'll never wear one.

I'm 33, I used to play a lot of video games. I don't really play any anymore. I don't like social media (this is the closest thing to SM I consume), I don't like AI so far although that one at least has some benefits. I feel like such a boomer but I'm not of fan of the future.

I think VR is very interesting but until you can get an incredible experience for a game console price, it's probably DOA. Could take a decade+ for the technology to mature and come down in price. And by then who knows what other tech comes along.

What does VR do better than an existing technology it purports to replace?
Its a new form of media, this sort of thing isn’t always apparent right away. Just like how no one was talking about youtube when the internet first came along.

Some one will come along and innovate everyone will be saying how “obvious” and “inevitable” it was.

Problem with that analysis is that a traditional console requires a tv.

True but literally almost everyone already has one these days especially with large 4k smart TVs being dirt cheap. No one except tech enthusiasts with money to burn are going to buy a VR/AR headset at Apple VR headset prices, or even a cheaper VR headset price (that also require you to own a console or worse, an expensive PC).

Psvr2 is like $550. Giving the life span of modern consoles, you'll probably be seeing a lot of psvr2 adoption, as people who've had ps5s for 2-3 years get bored.

Make my day.
Porn/horniness has decided many tech battles and innovations over the years.

VHS beat Betamax because thats what porn distributors chose

VHS won because it was superior. It was cheaper, it had cheaper cassettes and it could record for twice as long.

Good luck with 60 min of Beta compared to 120 of VHS. Many TV shows would miss their ending. Recording a movie? Lol. A movie or a show that runs for an hour? What are you picking? VHS. Now Beta countered by reducing the quality of the recording in order to extend recording to 120 min but lost its theoretical picture quality edge. Oh yeah, VHS had now jumped to 4 hours at this point. Taping a football game or baseball game? What are you picking? VHS.

The porn industry preferred VHS because the cassettes were cheaper. Cheaper cassettes, win VHS. It didn't create the winner, it just serviced everyone, preferred VHS because VHS was winning.

Now none of this has anything to do with Apple's goggles except to say "the whole picture" matters. Price matters, availability matters, usage reasons matter. Being technically a bit better might not be enough is something else is more flexible, available and cheaper. I'm fascinated by apple's goggles, first ones that hit enough quality points but that price needs to comedown or they might get Betamaxed.

Much less than a decade. Maybe 5 years.

Blu-ray beat HD DVD because thats what porn distributors chose
Google Images was invented because of Jennifer Lopez's green dress
Youtube was invented because of the Janet Jackson Halftime Slip
Anyone that's ever purchased Blu-ray porn should probably be institutionalized. I mean come on.
Nice urban myth though, lol.

On topic, using definitive verbs like "will" with new/unreleased tech is rarely wise, unless you are in fact a time traveler.
Vision Pro is an expensive, primarily early adopter/influencer driven product. Not sure that market will be enough to elevate this tech into the mainstream, but who knows really? Could be another "iRevolutionary" device or a HomePod.

It's not much of a home or family consumer product at this point (unless you can afford 4 headsets, then salud!). It was a bit sad seeing the lonely people in their ad watching movies by themselves in their tiny downtown apartment.

Umm. At some point, humans will have to make a decision between humanity and machinery. Constantly inserting technology into every aspect of life, is a dead end for the human race.

It doesn't. We have done the research. We are constantly surrounded by wifi signals whether or not we have VR headsets on.

The majority of people can't even afford nutritious food anymore, something with a high cost of entry like VR isn't going to take off. VR seemed like the next big thing in 2005 and is still just as niche as it was then.

You can get a VR headset for $300. You can actually get VR experiences cheaper than that, too. It isn't really that expensive anymore. It's 2023. It is no longer as niche as it was in 2005. Just because you haven't kept up with VR tech doesn't mean it hasn't gotten better. There are tons of games, Youtube has an entire VR app. You can watch some TV shows filmed in VR. Etc

This topic is full of folks who still think it's 2007. I certainly understand not wanting to wear a headset though.
