Ya, it's going to be interesting. That team lost as many solid contributors as anyIt wasn’t one player. It’s years of experience playing that style across different coaches.
We will see.

The Bruins have a fantastic top 4 D and 2 goaltenders who have proven themselves. Up front they still have Pasternak and Marchand as well as guys who can grind teams down. Their scoring will likely decrease but they know how to shut teams down.
Exactly. Those experienced core players that made this possible are all retiring/leaving/declining.It wasn’t one player. It’s years of experience playing that style across different coaches.
Wow, I dunno about that yet.
I mean he looks like a Heiskanen type talent - likely the top skater on the team - but Norris and Smythe? That's some kind of projection man.The last 20 games he played last year to me put him easily in the top 5 - I think he’s better then Chara, Hossa and Alfie so it’s only EK65.
Don’t think he can get to EK65 level of excellence but I think Sandy will have a Cup by age 25 and maybe the Conn Smyth and a Norris (maybe all in the same season) so it could be no contest for best Sen ever

I'll etransfer you 20 bucks if that happens. No questions asked.I think Sandy will have a Cup by age 25 and maybe the Conn Smyth and a Norris (maybe all in the same season) so it could be no contest for best Sen ever
He’ll do it, maybe multiple times. Best Ottawa rookie I’ve ever seen.
I mean thats not true at all one did and thats a blow but as a team they play terrific systems.Exactly. Those experienced core players that made this possible are all retiring/leaving/declining.
This Makes sense. He’ll do it, maybe multiple times. Best Ottawa rookie I’ve ever seen.
Make it $20000 and you have a dealI'll etransfer you 20 bucks if that happens. No questions asked.
That alfredsson guy had a pretty good rookie season if I recall.
No he isn't.Was thinking Sanderson is the key to the entire thing - 2nd best player to ever skate with an Ottawa uniform on
Make it $20000 and you have a deal
Totally. But what Sandy did last year as a Dman - doing it all at an exceptional level with such maturity and focus on winning, I think apart from McDavid he’s going to be in conversation for best player in the NHL in 2-3 years

I'll be happy if he's the best defenseman on the senators.
Expecting him to be a top 3 player in the league is pretty damned optimistic.
I hope youre right but my expectations aren't that high.
He was 23 at the time iirc. I know technically he was a rookie....but personally I think that's too old for Calder considerationThat alfredsson guy had a pretty good rookie season if I recall.
I like Sanderson. I like him a lot. I think he'll be our best defenseman this year and our best over the next decade. He’s easily the best Dman on the Senators and by game 10 of this season Wil be considered their best player (which he is already just the fans need to catch up after the articles are printed)
This is the exact same conversations I had about year 1-2 Erik Karlsson - when he got demoted to the AHL I thought it was stupid and the response from most fans was he needed it and he was only 19 because most fans honestly don’t really know what to think they just think what TSN tells them to think.
Mark Stone and Yashin arguably had better rookie seasons than Alfredsson,That alfredsson guy had a pretty good rookie season if I recall.

He's clearly the amalgamated spawn of Bobby Orr, Chris Pronger and Paul Coffey, only time will tell how many Norris' he'll win, probably have to invent a way to award him two for the same season, I imagine.Really? You don’t think he can be better than one-dimensional McDavid?
Talk about limited expectations.
No he isn’t the best player. He’s easily the best Dman on the Senators and by game 10 of this season Wil be considered their best player (which he is already just the fans need to catch up after the articles are printed)

This is also the time of the year that fans tends to be a little myopic and focus on their own team. In the meantime, rival teams take strides to become better as well. We can focus on Boston, but there are other teams in the division and the conference that aren't going to remain static. It should be an interesting year. I would use the term cautious optimism here I suppose.I'm optimistic for sure. We should absolutely be a playoff team with this roster and league average goaltending. The major wrinkle is that we are playing in what will probably be the best division in the NHL.
Better possession metrics and a better breakout will help. Ultimately we need guys to be more mentally focused and committed to structure so that unforced errors don't lead to gaudy GA numbers. I don't know shit about hockey systems so I don't know if we play a good one, but regardless there are lots of guys on this team that didn't execute the system well last year. That should be improved.
No way I can project the Sens to finish at the top of the division until we see how they're playing defensively. Would take a major step forward.
Norris is probably going to start the year cold. It's to be expected after all the time he missed.
Will be imperative that he's able to shake it off and also that we can insulate him somewhat in the early days.
