Would have very much preferred they trade him

Yeah Vladdy isn’t worth this.

Hate to lose him, he’s a great player, but not half a billion great when we could have got assets for him.

If it was sign him or lose him straight up I could get behind signing him more, but I would have rather seen him converted to future-looking assets for this price.

Even with his slow start, Vlad is still 74th in fWAR (only 117 in bWAR).

The bigger issue offensively is that only 5 guys have wRC+ of 100 (average) or better and they are Bo, Vlad, Springer, Heineman (playing 1/3 of the time) and Straw (playing 1/2 the time). That means that they routinely have 6 guys performing below average in the lineup.

Santander is a slow starter and they will let him heat up, but Wagner is hitting around the same level as Schneider was and Roden and Gimenez are rocking 80 wRC+s.

Varsho could be back as soon as Friday. Barger should be getting some run to see what he can do (he should be getting some reps at 3B at this point).

On the farm yesterday:
AAA BUF went with the pen. Pretty good work by multiple relievers til vet lefty Justin Bruihl got knocked around in the 11th. Joey Loperfido 2-5 with a hr. The runners had a rough go.
AA NH same story….bullpen day, humming along fine til both the D and pitching unraveled in the 8th giving up 4 unearned runs. HR for hot Yohendrick Pinango.
A+ VAN another bullpen collapse. Starter Grant Rogers was wild, but it didn’t hurt him tossing 5innings of 1 run ball with 6ks. Adrian Pinto 2-4with a hr. Victor Arias 2-4 with a 3b.
A DUN with the only win in the system. Khal Stephen with another strong start: 5ip 6h 0bb 2er and 5ks. Offense led by Yunei Munoz 3-5 with a 2b. Manuel Beltre 2-4. Sam Shaw back in the lineup, 0-2 2bb’s.

Honestly at what point does management get fired? They’ve built another garbage team that’s even more expensive and has all the same issues. Difference is now out zero power 1B is signed for 14 years at a wildly overpriced contract, our 2b making over 20 million can’t hit, our catcher that’ll be making over 11 can’t hit, our big off season signing can’t hit, hit for power and play defence. Wtf positive is there with this team? Our weak prospect pool? I said I wouldn’t watch until this management team was gone and they’ve just made things so much worse. I think I will now bow out and just catch up a little during the season

Vladdy will now proceed the quit on the team and wind up being bought out.

Wake me up when Shatkins and the rest of management is fired.

Don't think buyouts are a thing in baseball. There can be opt outs built into contracts....which there isn't with Vlad. We are paying him the duration of that contract regardless of how it works out.

He better keep hitting in spring, although he may decide to cut down the number of AB he gets in Florida.

The positive so far is Springer.

For everyone else, there needs to be some tweaking to the approach. The Jays are near the bottom in Pull % and near the top in Oppo % which makes generating offense difficult (all the other teams like that are bottom half in homers, but can score other ways like hitting doubles).

Good day on the farm.

AAA BUF swept both ends of a double header. JClase stood out: 3-5 with a 2b, bb, sad, and 3sb’s. Dude can fly. 1-2 2bb and 2b game for Babe in there: Pitching was fine. Kevin Gowdy had the standout pitching performance with a 1.1 inning save and 3ks.
AA NH wasted a quality start from (under the radar) Devereaux Harrison getting shutout.
A+ VAN had a nice come from behind win. Great start from Jackson Wentworth: 5ip, 1er, 8k’s. Three run 8th capped off by a Sean Keys 2rbi double.
A DUN also had a late comeback to win 6-5. Another great start wasted, this time from Gilberto Batista (acquired from BOS at the deadline): 6ip 1er 5ks. Balanced veteran lineup did most of the damage. Sam Shaw with a tidy game, 1-2 with 2bb’s.

Jays have some nice pitchers at the lower levels, and this doesn't include a few guys who haven't debuted at Dunedin yet. Throw in some of the injured guys returning this year at some point, Maroudis, Barriera, and Tiedemann, the Jays have a promising group of pitchers.

Rojas hasn't pitched yet, and despite checking online, I can't find anything other than that he is on the 7-day DL.

I basically stopped watching this team with the start of the NHL playoffs.... Guess I didn't miss much in Houston.... How is the hitting this bad?
