Value of: Dante Fabbro

Seems crazy for Columbus not to lock him up.

His numbers with the Jackets were absolute quality. 21:39 TOI with 19:53 at even strength trailing only Werenski. 9 goals in 26 points and 62 games with basically zero PP time and a +23 on a non-playoff team. RHD just entering his prime years.

He was everything Preds fans warned us he would be if he actually got utilized properly.

What’s the going rate for a high end second pair RHD at age 26 in the summer of 2025? If he were to hit free agency, 30 teams would line-up.

All I know is that Grier better throw him some crazy money his way. The Sharks need help with RD and he passed on him when he was on waivers. Time to right that wrong bro.

What is CBJ planning to do with Dante Fabbro? Are they planning to re-sign him or is he expecting to hit the UFA market come July 1st? What would be his value on the open market, 5yr @ 5M?
I loved what Fabbro brought to us, but lets not forget dude was on waivers. Any team could have gotten him for next to free. 5 years seems steep.

Fabbro said in an interview on a podcast a couple weeks before the season ended that he has told his agent his number one priority is to stay in Columbus. Said coming there was one of the best things that has happened in his career.
Waddell said there’s interest on Columbus side and he’s had talks with his camp.
I assume he sticks around.

Link - contract stuff starts around 31:45

He says he wants to stay, Waddell said they wouldn't mind him back, talks haven't happened yet and some of our posters aren't dealing well with that last fact

Waddell said that he talked with Fabbro. Whether that counts as "talks", I'm not sure.

He also said that he would talk with the agent.

It's unfortunately the way Waddell does business, everything is last minute. So Fabbro is getting a lot of extra attention around the league as a result and he's probably going through real estate listings in various cities.

Someone will definitely give him term, half the league desperately needs what he does. It's a question of whether the Jackets are willing to offer term or willing to say goodbye.

Plenty of players have been waived/overlooked by the team that drafted them to later go have a major breakout.

Gustav Forsling immediately comes to mind. Drafted by Vancouver, traded to Chicago, signed to an ELC by Chicago, traded to Carolina waived in 19/20 and unclaimed, waived again in 2021 and claimed by Florida. The rest from there is history.

Is Fabbro's sample size enough to warrant 5 years? Florida inked Forsling to a 3-year extension after only playing 40 games. With the large cap increase this summer, it's going to be pure pandemonium. Barring collusion amongst every front office, the money and term handed out to UFAs is going to turn heads. Fabbro included.

FWIW, he was on waivers because our GM is an idiot, not because he was a bad player.
Youre not wrong, but you don't think he tried to trade him first? No team wanted to offer a 7 or something?

Please don't take this as me crapping on Fabbro. I absolutely love his game. I would kill to see the Jackets acquire a stud RD to play with Werenski and play Fabbro with Mateychuk. He'd be the perfect steady partner for a young up and comer. I really hope we keep him. I just don't see him getting 5 years.

I have a feeling we're gonna offer 8 years to Provorov and 3 to Fabbro.

No way we offer 8 to Provorov. The Jackets have publicly said the sticking point with him is that they can’t agree on term length. They don’t want to block Mateychuk.

I'm a Preds fan, watched him since we drafted him, I'd give him 5 years every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Guy got screwed in Nashville by two bad coaching staffs and one bad GM.

All of us for years sat around beating our heads against the wall because what we saw from games and what the coaches kept saying never lined up. The only people shocked that Fabbro did what he did in Columbus were Hynes, Brunette, and Trotz.

If I was Grier, I’d throw a 5x6 at Fabbro.
Which one of those is the dollars and which one is the years?

My guess is he gets $5M AAV for 4 years. Seems steepish but UFA RDs always get paid. And he turns 27 just 11 days before July 1 so he’s about as young of a UFA as you can get. Not like we’re talking a 32 year old here.

This exactly. I think at the end of the 2022 season I was just automatically pencilling him in as a 4x$4M re-signing, because he was just that good. In 2025 UFA dollars, that's easily 5x$5M.

I don't think it matters if in between the Nashville Predators front office massively screwed up? The Nashville Predators front office is in major disarray right now, and may very well be completely incompetent. So bringing up the Fabbro waiving as an indictment that should land squarely on the bad management, as opposed to landing on the player.

Fabbro should be worth around 5x$5M. That's a fair ballpark for what he can do, IMO.

5 years, 6 mil aav. Sharks have to overpay to bring players in.

Fabbro was so much better for us than Provorov.

Right now I expect both to go and the bigger loss to be Fabbro.

How is Provorov blocking Mateychuk? Those 2 and Werenski are our left side. I'm not worried about blocking Hunt.

There are three spots on the left side and three LHD: Werenski, Provorov, Mateychuk.

In time, Mateychuk is going to be experienced and ready to log big heavy minutes as a 4D. If Provorov is in that spot, Mateychuk cannot be. Mateychuk is not a third pairing defenseman. That’s why CBJ is fine with the shorter term, it gives Mateychuk some time to develop until he’s ready.
