Would have very much preferred they trade him

Yeah Vladdy isn’t worth this.

Hate to lose him, he’s a great player, but not half a billion great when we could have got assets for him.

If it was sign him or lose him straight up I could get behind signing him more, but I would have rather seen him converted to future-looking assets for this price.

Even with his slow start, Vlad is still 74th in fWAR (only 117 in bWAR).

The bigger issue offensively is that only 5 guys have wRC+ of 100 (average) or better and they are Bo, Vlad, Springer, Heineman (playing 1/3 of the time) and Straw (playing 1/2 the time). That means that they routinely have 6 guys performing below average in the lineup.

Santander is a slow starter and they will let him heat up, but Wagner is hitting around the same level as Schneider was and Roden and Gimenez are rocking 80 wRC+s.

Varsho could be back as soon as Friday. Barger should be getting some run to see what he can do (he should be getting some reps at 3B at this point).

On the farm yesterday:
AAA BUF went with the pen. Pretty good work by multiple relievers til vet lefty Justin Bruihl got knocked around in the 11th. Joey Loperfido 2-5 with a hr. The runners had a rough go.
AA NH same story….bullpen day, humming along fine til both the D and pitching unraveled in the 8th giving up 4 unearned runs. HR for hot Yohendrick Pinango.
A+ VAN another bullpen collapse. Starter Grant Rogers was wild, but it didn’t hurt him tossing 5innings of 1 run ball with 6ks. Adrian Pinto 2-4with a hr. Victor Arias 2-4 with a 3b.
A DUN with the only win in the system. Khal Stephen with another strong start: 5ip 6h 0bb 2er and 5ks. Offense led by Yunei Munoz 3-5 with a 2b. Manuel Beltre 2-4. Sam Shaw back in the lineup, 0-2 2bb’s.
