Bratsov not dressed. Likely done playing in the A. Don’t think he’ll play at all this weekend. Really solid effort kid. Couldn’t stay and get even a month in and cried the whole 3 weeks. No one thinks this is the end of the world but this is such a bad message to send to the org his teammates and the fan base about what kind of character you have. Ugh glad to watch guys that want to put in a solid effort tonight. Lead by Shesterkin & Chytil.

Okay, Professor. Why have any type of reaction at all? Why do we even have reactions? Or opinions? Do we actually know anything about anything?

I actually shared something about myself in an effort to help explain why I feel the way I do about certain things, but you found it irrelevant. Although like my stoned college philosophy professor, it's hard to tell if your questions are rhetorical or unrhetorical.

I'm content to form my opinions based on the what little evidence I have and my own feelings. If new evidence is presented, I may change my feelings on the matter. We're talking about a ****ing hockey team, not determining whether or not there's justification to go to war. I don't know why it's of such great concern to you whether people are "rushing to judgment." That's basically the name of the game, here. But also like my stoned college philosophy professor, sometimes you act like you don't know where you are.

Anyway, rip me to shreds, Aristotle. I have a train to catch.

There are plenty of things out there to react to and have opinions on. Sometimes, though, the most rational thing to do is reserve judgment. And this is one of those things, in my opinion. Being disappointed is one thing. I’m disappointed too. Being critical of his character is another.

I do believe that you can change your opinion with new evidence, because you’re an intelligent poster and have proven that many times over. I don’t believe that many of the people here who have reacted the same way can do that. And that’s why I’m arguing so stridently for reserving judgment. I don’t want to see this kid get an undeserved reputation because he did what he and others thought was best for his career at the age of 19. Though I’m sure I’m tilting at windmills.

Fair post. Can't and won't argue it.

A guy we took in the first round not good enough for the AHL a year after we drafted him?

Reason for concern. It is.

I don't think it's really that simple--a big part of the equation is whether Kravtsov would be ready during the first part of the season to play in NHL. If not, then it becomes a question of where would his development be best served?

I think the answer to the first question is that all things being equal, there were several more likely call-ups. The second question is more open to debate, but either way, Kravtsov had the final say.

Kravtsov is under contract to the Rangers for another two years after this one. Going back to Russia only delays his career with the Rangers. I really am not worried. He'll come back stronger and wiser--it won't be as much of a shock next time.

Just another in a string of poor draft picks led by Gordie Clark. What else is new? He let the Islanders get Wahlstrom and Dobson who are both on the NHL team while he drafts a player who flees to the KHL at the first sign of adversity. This does not bode well for his future. You'd like to see him fight through struggles and get used to the game rather than just quit and go back to his comfort zone. We've seen this before from other European players too. Mikhail Grigorenko, Jesse Puljujarvi, and Nail Yakupov all went back to Europe after struggling out of the gate to the pro game in the NHL and haven't seen the NHL since. Val Nichushkin went there, came back, and hasn't scored a single goal in 62 games since then. Late firsts are when you gamble on these type of guys. With a top 10 pick you need to go with more of the sure thing as opposed to the player who has options outside of the NHL.

Great post, I was so happy when Walhstrom was available when we picked, was a complete shock to the system. Then last year heard great things and thought maybe it was the right pick.

Holy cow! Guys let’s stop for a second with overreaction.

Let’s look at the facts. Of course the Rangers and we all would have loved for him to make it with the team. But then @Edge ’s analogy is very apt. If he was a Canadian kid and the team decided to send him back for another year would there be questions about his character? The difference here is that this Russian kid’s options are different. He doesn’t get to go back to CHL, his option is KHL, which by the way is definitely a better option for all. Where does it say that Kravtsov is going back AGAINST team’s wishes? We got 3rd party reports because Kravtsov’s agent / manager was probably doing the ground work because this return is more legally complicated than going back to CHL.

Sorry but I don’t see any character or attitude issues. He did everything he could to prepare and simply is not ready. Who knows if Panarin, Tarasenko or Kuznitsov would also not be prepared for NA any better.

Absolutely not. You don’t just gift a guy plenty of icetime and offensive opportunities if he isn’t buying into the system and at least playing passable defence. That sends the wrong message to the entire dressing room and other young prospects (like Chytil, who has bought in to the system).

Kravtsov needs to adjust, or go back to Russia.

Exactly, the wrong message of being allowed to make mistakes on the course of your development.

Yes to bolded. Xenophobia is not a thing for everyone. And its not a good distraction from a very bad situation with this young player.

Xenophobia is not an issue. I was just painting a picture of what would have taken place if he wasn’t from Russia and had to return to juniors instead of KHL.

He is not jiving with the AHL coaches because apparently they are giving him a tougher than anticipated time down there. Scratched his second AHL game and the following games was benched for long stretches of a game.

Coaches want him to play a more complete game, on the defensive side of the puck. Tough love, Kravtsov wants ice time but coaches feel he is not deserved of it. He probably feels snubbed entirely because he did not make the NHL and is getting treated “unfairly” in the AHL.

The entire situation feels vindictive. In any event, go to the KHL and tear it up kid. Not worried in the slightest, unless he is not producing in the KHL either.

Not surprised this happened.

He makes more money, and doesn't get the raw end here. Make more money, and not get tough love?

I know what I'm doing.

Wouldn't be surprised if Shesty goes back as well.

Rangers minor league management really needs to ask themselves of their own learning experience is aligned with the needed learning experiences of their prospects.

At what point do we all take our rose-colored glasses off and acknowledge this organization has an issue developing its own high draft picks?
Agreed. I knew the minute they scratched him after one freakin game the writing was on the wall. You want to send him down, so he can get minutes to improve his game and you bench him?

Wasn't that long ago he was shining in the TC tournament and was praised on how highly skilled he is. Was that just a mirage? Another case of mismanagement. Him going back to Russia will not help him with learning the North American game. Geez..

Well this sucks. I really like Kravy and wanted him to succeed right away. I like his style more than Kakkos. Oh well. Maybe it's for the best.
