I have to think it is really all about the money and /or that he also has a girlfriend in the motherland that he can't live without....stranger things have happened . Hopefully this all works out in the next 2 years for all involved.

How is this “nothing”? Seriously?

How is VK going to develop the ability to generate offense at an elite level in a tighter checking, smaller rink environment playing in the KHL? How is he going to learn new habits playing in the KHL vs doing more of the same?

We wonder why they NYR don’t have a history of developing high skill offensive talent, maybe it’s because we focus on improving their weaknesses vs executing on their strengths.

If Tony DeAngelo was a NYR draft pick we would never be the organization reaping the benefit of his development, because we would have been pissed he wasn’t defending well enough in the AHL and traded him.

Let's go back to what I said at the beginning, which is that there are other reasons this could've happened. My reason for providing that anecdote wasn't to say "this is what *is* happening here." It was to say "this is what *could* be happening here." We don't know enough. So why have a negative reaction to it? Or a positive one?
Okay, Professor. Why have any type of reaction at all? Why do we even have reactions? Or opinions? Do we actually know anything about anything?

I actually shared something about myself in an effort to help explain why I feel the way I do about certain things, but you found it irrelevant. Although like my stoned college philosophy professor, it's hard to tell if your questions are rhetorical or unrhetorical.

I'm content to form my opinions based on the what little evidence I have and my own feelings. If new evidence is presented, I may change my feelings on the matter. We're talking about a f***ing hockey team, not determining whether or not there's justification to go to war. I don't know why it's of such great concern to you whether people are "rushing to judgment." That's basically the name of the game, here. But also like my stoned college philosophy professor, sometimes you act like you don't know where you are.

Anyway, rip me to shreds, Aristotle. I have a train to catch.

obviously there has never been a player that played in the KHL beyond 19 and then went on to be a high end player in the nhl so clearly his chances are now ruined.

I think there's an assumption that staying here would've solved his problems, which might not necessarily be how anyone close to the situation feels.

If the kid isn't ready for the AHL, which frankly appeared to be the case, I don't think keeping him in Hartford at this point was necessarily going to help him.

I would suspect that if the parties involved felt this was as simple as needing more time and training, we probably wouldn't be at this point. So that leads me to believe that it wasn't seen that way.

To the last point, we didn't trade the kid. And we haven't traded ADA. We've benched him a bunch of times and scratched him, and even that has been met with resistance. I'm confused as to where you're going with that last one.

IDK. I'm as patient as they come with prospects. I have no problem waiting on guys to develop. I don't like guys coming and finding that they're not in the right "mental space" and then packing up. For me, growing up, you started something, then you were committed to it. If you didn't see it through for any reason other than you were like on life support or something, then you were quitting. You sign your contract and say I'm going to play in North America, then you ****ing do it. Don't quit on it. Different worldviews, I guess.

Seriously. I hate that I feel this way since I feel it's very Boomer-ish, but holy f***. What a bad look to just run home at the very first sign of adversity.

Yes. I think that quitting and going home a few weeks after you come over makes you a baby. What, do you think he should get a gold star for trying?

How do you know the Rangers weren't the ones saying, "Look you're not ready, or at the level we need you to be it at in order to play at this level, maybe you'd be better off going home?"

One would think that things need to be prioritized, as if he learns that instead of developing his strengths (which is hard to do on the bench), he is going to be just a reliable bottom-six guy.

Absolutely not. You don’t just gift a guy plenty of icetime and offensive opportunities if he isn’t buying into the system and at least playing passable defence. That sends the wrong message to the entire dressing room and other young prospects (like Chytil, who has bought in to the system).

Kravtsov needs to adjust, or go back to Russia.

Ultimately not that big of a deal, but I’m not loving the organizations overall handling of the youth right now.

One would assume that would come out if that's the case. One would've also assumed that this would've been figured out at camp and not oddly after a handful of games and a scratch.

Its possible the Rangers prefer him to go back to Russia if they don't believe he physically ready for the grind of NA pro hockey.

But the fact remains we don't know. And that's an important line to draw before we start calling people quitters, and babies, and whatever other descriptors we want to throw out there.

But the idea that Kravtsov was ready for at least the AHL was something that EVERYONE thought. So the fact that it didn't appear that way isn't inherently something that would've been seen coming out of camp.

we'll never know the answer to this...100% guaranteed that the message tomorrow during the game will be that the rangers feel that this is the best thing for his development and he just needs more time. but they are never going to say who initiated the decision imo

Just for the record, there can of course not be any question marks as to if Kravy was ‘ready’ to play in the AHL.

Would their have been some growing pains? Definitely. And depending on how much you wanted Kravy to adopt to the team instead of vice versa, they could even have been somewhat significant from time to time over a shorter period like a month.

But it’s of course just pure nonsense to talk in terms of Kravy not being ‘ready’ for the AHL. I think this is a case of a lot of people just not really having seen him play much if at all.

Kravtsov gets compared a lot to Kuznetsov. Go look at Kuznetsov’s path to the NHL.

He didn’t come to NA until his Draft+4 season and that was just for 17 games at the end of the season. His first full season in the NHL was his D+5 season and he turned out just fine.

It's definitely a possibility.

That said, how is that problem addressed by having him play in the KHL? Are we just hoping that another year of maturing in that league will be enough? When Buchnevich came over, he had an assignment clause, and yet we just f***ing put him on IR for core strengthening work. Even if he didn't have a clause we could have loaned him out. Yet we kept him around and worked on it in-house.

Which I guess is just the basis for my befuddlement. I see issues with Kravtsov, and *I* don't think those issues would be *best* addressed in the KHL. Of course there could be any number of other things at play that could change my opinion significantly. But, based off the little I know, plus a few inferences, I don't like it. Hopefully it ends up for the best.

How much does he get paid in the KHL?

Traktor gave him a qualifying offer of ₽6m to retain his rights. Kravtsov and Traktor will now negotiate a 1-year contract so we don't know yet how much he will make.

Kravtsov wasn't NHL ready at 19. And I have compared him to Tarasenko and Kuznetsov, not so much in terms of upside but to show what a possible path without the AHL can look like.

Rangers jumped the gun. I said many times he wasn't NHL ready and developing in the KHL is not a bad thing. The 2 players mentioned made the NHL at a later age without playing in the AHL. Kravtsov can develop mentally, physically and on the ice and make the jump later in his career. Whether that is 2020 or 2021, remains to be seen but it's not out of the question for him to make the NHL straight out of camp in the next 2 off seasons.

Shouldnt be shocked that a 19 year old russian kid that speaks no english doesnt want to play in cultural hotbed Hartford and ride buses around.

This clause was no secret we knew it was a possibility. Im not happy that its being exercised but hell make more money, get more ice time, and be in his comfort zone which will hopefully help his growth this year.
