Why was this regime after this player? Doing nothing would have been better than this low cost trial.

Pretty predictable. Would have liked to have seen what a season in Abby could do for his game, but easy come easy go.
His history shows he isn’t interested in playing in the A. So do the Canuck still retain his rights if they QO him? Just in the event he figures it out?

Kravtsov playing overseas while the Canucks maintain his rights seems like an ideal situation for the team. The Canucks hold his rights for 3 more years so essentially they get a first look when his KHL deal expires. The Canucks seem like a team that is supportive of their Russian players so don't see why he'd be opposed to coming back.

The likely outcome is they lose him on waivers otherwise.

Still don't mind that deal though. Do that a handful of times and one of them probably turns into a player.

Kevin Sorbo-levels of disappointment that he won't give it another go at training camp before going back to Russia, but at least they should retain his rights should he take the next step.

Sums up my thoughts. Spend a little for a little chance to get something. That's fine.

Huge different from spending a lot for the same little chance. 2nd/3rd round picks, Forsling, etc...

Not if the player is obviously lazy and unwilling to work to get better.

It's one thing to say a low cost bet will turn out eventually. Fine, but this particular bet was 16 games... Why even do it? The pro scouting on this one stinks.

Kravstov signing a KHL deal in his situation tells you all you need to know about his NHL ambitions. Hint: they are dead.

The idea behind "low cost bets" is that you can make a lot of them and the odds are that a percentage of them will pan out. The Canucks were wrong about Kravstov but, for a 7th round pick, it was worth the price to give him a shot. Concluding that "the pro scouting on this one stinks" is way over the top hyperbole.

It was basically a waiver claim on a top-10 pick who was pretty well documented as being unhappy in his previous organization and with his coach there.

Free hit to see if a fresh start with a new team unlocked something. It didn't, move on.

I have zero problems with it.

What a disappointing outcome for a player given all the tools but none of the resilience to realize his potential. Him signing in Russia just tells me he is simply unwilling to put in a summer of work, to put in the necessary effort to play in the best league in the world. I have no respect for a player like that.
