TBH, I am more excited about plays like a hit he gave / took in the open ice in the 3rd period that allowed his teammate to maintain puck possession and advance it into Sochi zone.

This 3 on 3 action - I know he got skills to generate high scoring chances for himself and his linemates when he's given time and place.

Showing a lot of the signs that he showed in the second half of last season. Rangers were very happy with what they saw, and I'm sure they are equally happy with that they're seeing thus far this season.
If there is one prospect that looks like he could make the switch to center, assuming he makes it as wing and does very well there, it looks to me like Kravtsov. Probably never happen, but he has the raw talent and IQ to do it. I watch his recent play and I can easily see the makings of a center, though.

I liked how he followed his own shot and retrieved the rebound, maintaining possession, and then later how he quickly recognized the turnover by his teammate, looped back into the defensive zone, and was in position to retrieve the loose puck ahead of the opposing player.

It's crazy that VK is almost the forgotten prospect in the NYR system at this point. Still have all the hope in the world that he can develop into a top 6 / top line contributor.

It's amazing what winning a draft lottery two years in a row can do to your prospect depth.

Kid is still incredibly young...no reason we shouldn't be hoping he develops into a top 6 contributor in a year or two.

Hoping he can fill in some of that 2nd level of scoring similar to what Nik Ehlers does for the Jets. Skill is there, but he's going to be overshadowed by Kakko and Lafreniere as young guys on the roster. 2nd line winger, 55ish points. Would provide immense value to the team in the future.

If Gauthier is in the mix it's time to worry. He is a 3rd line forward at best.

It is for a 3rd line spot, but we don't really know what Gauthier is at the moment. He's only played a handful of games in the NHL. He was a prolific AHL goal scorer. He could potentially be a 2nd liner.

Remember that someone like Kreider was in the AHL at this age as well, and I do not think he had the same success that Gauthier did. I'm not ready to put him into a category as a 3rd liner at best. There is top 6 potential in there, just if he realizes that potential he has. It took CK plenty of time, including those trips to the minors, to become what he has been for the past few years.

If he is penciled in to the 3rd line at the beginning of the year, it would not be the worst thing to happen, but it could mean that Kravtsov is in the KHL all year and Buchnevich and Kakko are filling in the spots on L1 and L2.

With no Fast, there will be openings on RW on all lines except ZBads. Want to play with Panarin & Strome? All someone has to do is earn it in camp. Otherwise they can play on the third line with Chytil and the top overall pick. Or get outplayed there and it's on to Lemieux's and Howden's line. If Gauthier blew everyone's doors off at camp, then he would get the coveted spot.

I think the second top six spot is Kakko's to lose at this point. Gauthier would have to have a huge camp and Kakko a disappointing one for Gauthier to "win" that spot and we should all be hoping that's not the case.

Assuming Fast isn't back and Buchnevich isn't traded then I think you're looking at RW depth of Buchnevich, Kakko, Gauthier/Kravtsov, some dude (though I guess if Kravtsov won the 3rd line RW spot then Gauthier is likely as the 4th line spot)

I agree with all of this. And while I agree that the second top-6 spot is Kakko's to loose, I am not completely discounting Gauthier winning it in camp. Should not happen. We do not want it to happen. But it could.

I am also not discounting Kravstov outplaying Guathier and shifting him to the 4th line.

Gauthier is the more mature player at the moment. He's stronger and faster. Kakko has more skill, but he needs to work on those things this fall. I'm hopeful Kakko holds onto that spot, but if Gauthier takes it from him, it can only be seen as a positive, especially with how Kakko looked this summer.

Agreed. I am hopeful of the same, but don't think that Kakko outplaying Gauthier is a given. Of course, this board would go crazy. All Kakko has to do is come in and outplay both Gauthier and Kravstov and he will be able to take the RW spot on the Panarin-Strome line

I see Traktor getting their asses kicked already 2-0. Missed first period but saw quick highlights. Was that Kravtsov who was stopped on a breakaway?

Nice zone entry by Kravtsov on pp made nice pass and drove to the net. Rebound from his skate to stick on backhand. Nice goal.
