A place.
One of the benefits of living right next to North Dakota is I can go get booze on sundays if I like without driving an hour.

No. The ones that do, it will just be 3.2 beer.

Find a liquor store if you want to get beer/liquor.

Dang, that just seems so crazy to me - lol!

Thinking about making the trek up for the Wild-Blue Jackets game on the 22nd of October/to visit an old friend.. He's never mentioned the beer policy, haha :amazed:

Hudson liquor stores are making a killing off Minnesotans making the bee line on Sundays.

It doesn't make a lot of sense; I would love to see legislation passed that we could buy liquor on Sundays here just to see all the Hudson purveyors **** their pants - their bottom line would be crushed.

Don't hold your breath. The unions are against this and have lots of politicians in their pockets.

It would obviously cut into their business, but let's be honest here, a liquor store in Wisconsin is never going to be hurting for business.;)

Anyone here have any idea if the camera policy of "no detachable lenses" is accurate? If I recall, that's changed from a couple years ago.

Was going to bring a Canon 1D and 135 F/2 (which sticks out about 6 inches)

Hello all.

Going to be visiting the area soon on a layover, and will hit up a Wild game, so wanted to ask some questions please. I tried reading the thread, but maybe some of the info is now outdated?

Plan: Stay at airport, cab to game, hang around some bars before+after the game, sleep, flight home

I want to stay near the airport since I fly out 20hours after I arrive. How difficult will it be for me to grab a cab from the arena after the game, and should I head over to downtown Minn, instead of just walking around St.Paul downtown? It will be a Tues night, and from what I read, downtown St Paul doesnt offer much. Will downtown Minn be much better and worth the cab ride? Any public transit from xcel to downtown minny and back?

I would consider renting a car, but I want to drink.

THANKS!

St. Paul doesn't have anything to offer for night life, really.

Minneapolis isn't a ton better but there's life downtown there. A lot of college girls and stuff like that.

Thanks, I guess St.Paul area has just the game for me. Seems to be a couple of Irish pubs around there too we might hit up pre game too, and I guess we'll just bite the bullet and take a ride to downtown Minneapolis to check it out. I just want to go out for some drinks, but I think my buddy will be into strip clubs, he heard there might be some there so wants to check it out.

I was about to offer some advice until you said "minny"

;)

I'm not a St. Paul guy, so I can't really speak to the nightlife there. Shouldn't be hard to find a cab after the game, if worse comes to worse, just call for one, but honestly I would just do an Uber.

I spent a lot of time in Minneapolis (went to college there), and there are plenty of spots to go. You could go to Dinkytown, which is right off the U of M campus. That's college bar central. The Library, Blarney's, Burrito Loco. If you're in the 21-25ish demo, and want a college bar scene, that's your spot.

Or go downtown Minneapolis to places like The Pourhouse, Kieran's (Irish pub), or Cowboy Jacks. See if anyone's playing at First Ave and check out a show there.

Have they being trying to get it overturned?

You guys must stock up on your stuff then on a Friday.
I don't think it's going to get changed anytime soon.

So yeah, people in MN know to just get it on Friday or Saturday if you plan on drinking on Sundays.

Is this at a store or do you mean you cant buy drink at a bar on a sunday?

Stores. "Off sale".

Good old MN not making any sense...there are more (or almost as much) lushes here as there are in WI.

St. Paul's got some spots, but it is a little sleepy. Lots of Irish bars near the X (because St. Paul was always the Catholic side of town, go figure), plus some awesome pubs up into Summit-University--Happy Gnome, Muddy Pig, and Blue Door are always personal favorites, though they are pubs and run a bit more casual and quieter.

My advice: Stay in Downtown Minneapolis. Take light rail to the game (the Green Line runs between the two downtowns, 24 hours), stick around till you get bored of St. Paul, take the train back and finish up your night in Dinkytown or Downtown. Then in the morning, you can take the Blue Line from Downtown straight to the airport, about 20 minutes.

I like this plan, I think I will go with staying in Downtown Minneapolis (no more Minny, promise)
Light rail to the game seems ideal, and Im assuming Ill just grab a ride right back to enjoy the downtown area. We're in our 40's, so college bar is not really our scene, but I certainly wouldnt dismiss it if it was best.

Is there a certain street/area I should try to stick to Downtown?

thanks guys!

in downtown Minneapolis, 1st Ave and Hennepin Ave are going to be your bulk of happening areas, but with the warning of lots of college aged to early 30's hanging out there. Nicollet Ave has a ton of places to eat and drink as well and is a little bit quieter, but you'll be paying more there for the "atmosphere" of it all. I can never wrap my head around paying 5-6 bucks for a pint of Bud or Miller Lite. even more expensive for the local brews or specialty beers. Hells Kitchen at least provides a cool environment to drink in for those prices (and food isn't too shabby either).

In either major city of Minneapolis or St. Paul, you won't really find many straight up bar type of places where you just go belly up and drink a few. It's either a bar and restaurant mix, or it is a bar then nightclub. St. Paul though does have more of those types of options, like Glockenspiel or even the Nook in the basement has that vibe. But those are off of the Light Rail line a bit.

Yeah if you're in your 40's,definitely follow xtremeninja's advice^

I'm 24 and even I think I'm starting to outgrow the college bars in Dinkytown

the thought of being in a Dinkytown bar on a random weekend makes me cringe. Just a hot mess of sloppiness. The only reason I would do it is for the insane drink deals and to be able to people watch. Bonus points for being able to watch a relationship drama unfold too, you can usually count on their being an exchange like this happening at the Library or Burrito Loco.

"Oh my gawd Jason you were toooootally checking her out, you're such an a-hole!"
"babe, I swear I wasn't checking her out, she's our server and I wanted another Grainbelt."
"Whatever, we're through, I'm not dealing with this anymore!"

she goes off an cries and gets her mascara all in a tizzy, Jason stands alone drinking his deliciously cold Primo and after about 15 mins she comes back and is sucking his face and says she never wants to fight again.

Dinky town is great for people watching, but one of my least favorite places for actually having fun at bars. I've never felt like I was the right age for Dinkytown. Was too young in high school, and in college I felt too old. I still go to shows at the Varsity and eat there and such, but the bar scene is a no-go. I just want a not-loud place where I can have a few drinks and talk without shouting.

I miss Sir Bens in Duluth.

exactly what im looking for, before or after the game on a Tuesday night.

Anyone have any thoughts on this:
It might be just me alone at the game now. Should I buy a single seat now, or wait til game time? Im tempted to buy now, saw some 2nd row for $82....but I know some teams discount single seats day of the game.

Any thoughts?
