Visiting LA? Where to go? What to do? Ask here

Last train out of Union station is 10 pm
You must drive. It would be cheaper to rent a car and pay for parking than using a taxi or Uber.

Thanks for response. Yes that is what my research has been telling me. Or we take the Metro bus.....but then that is like a 2 hour drive and it makes a thousand stops along the way.

Don't take the bus.

You can take the train to DTLA and take Uber back. Uber would cost you roughly $40-$50 as long as it isn't surge pricing. You could even take the Blue Line south to the Green line east and take uber from Norwalk (last stop on the green line) to Anaheim. Taking the green line and blue line will cost you $1.50 each trip.

A car will be more convenient but you'll have to pay parking (at least $10) and gas which won't save you all that much money in the end.

I took Metrolink to Union Station last weekend and my ticket didn't allot the free transfer on the subway. I scanned the metrolink website and didn't see any updated info. Are free transfers over now?

You have to buy the 10.00 weekend pass

Metrolink is offering a Weekend Day Pass for only $10 per day. This pass allows a rider to ride anytime, anywhere system-wide on either Saturday or Sunday.*

The Weekend Day Pass offers free connectivity to most rail or bus throughout Southern California. For example, after you purchased your Weekend Day Pass and took Metrolink from Irvine to downtown LA, you can board the subway at Union Station and ride all the way to Hollywood and Highland for free! The Weekend Day Pass does not allow for free transfers to the Coaster and other transit systems in San Diego county.

Check the*schedule*for weekend departure times.*

The $10 Weekend Day Pass is available for purchase through all Metrolink ticket vending machines (TVM) on Saturday and Sunday only.*

Note:* The Weekend Day Pass is ONLY VALID for EITHER Saturday or Sunday.* The validity date is the date of purchase.* There is no advance purchase option.* The Weekend Day Pass is valid for free transfers for the validity date printed on the front of the ticket.* If you transfer using an expired pass, you could be cited and fined. *

How to Purchase the $10 Weekend Day Pass

To anyone that lives close to City of Industry (read: Puente Hills Mall), Barnes and Noble along Colima Road is going to close at New Year's Eve.

17490 Colima Road, Rowland Heights

I'mma go there for shopping.

Hey people, visiting l.a. From montreal.. I am currently at venice beach... Wanting to know where r the best places to party.... My buddy's also wanna no where do the lady's like to hang...

Would like to avoid driving.. Venice beach or santa monica... Or wtvv u suggest..

I'd check out Manhattan and Hermosa piers. Those are close enough to Venice. There are a boat load of bars with every type of crowd you could be looking for. If you're looking for specific places, well, I'm probably not the best guy to ask. I like dive bars. I don't wait in lines for bars and I don't do dress codes. Just know that if you are going out tonight, cabs and uber are going to be slammed after midnight so plan accordingly.

To anyone interested in boba/pearl milk tea/bubble tea drinks, I personally recommend Half and Half Tea Express.

Hey guys, I have a trip planned to Anaheim to see the Habs vs Ducks on the 4th.. I really want to make a trip to LA the next day and stay around the Venice area for 2 nights and go to the Kings vs Habs game too.
I'm just wondering what is the best (and safest?) way to get from Venice Beach area to the Staples Center and then back to Venice Beach after the Kings vs Habs game? Or should I try to find a place to stay closer to the Staples Center and then find a way to spend a day at Venice Beach instead?

Any help or info would be much appreciated! Thanks

Uber or lyft would be my suggestion.
Bus will take 60-90 minutes each way. For 20 miles or less.
It might be worth it to stay near (ish) staples. Then you could take the red line to several other places: Hollywood, union station area, and other tourist type things.

Thanks! I found a place to stay that is apparently 5 minute drive away from the Staples Center (according to google maps)

How difficult is it to get a cab leaving the Staples Center after a game?

Call ahead and tell them the time you'll be ready. I should know; I previously waited 15-30 minutes for a cab and paid $70 for my ride, and that was just back in 2009!

Kings practice facility location

We are coming down from Canada for Saturday nights Jets/Kings game and there is a basketball game on Saturday afternoon . So the Zjets probably have a game day morning skate at the practice facility. Just wondering where it is and what time visiting team has a morning game day skate. Thx

For anyone interested, Straight Outta K-Town is playing atThe Rusty Pelican in La Puente tomorrow from 4-6. I REFUSE to go to shows that interfere with my curfew. :shakehead

BOGO jelly shots and Bud Light Platinums. The place should be crawling with chicks and WiFi. :naughty:

Be there or be square.

Really, La Puente? Google Maps lists The Rusty Pelican in both Newport Beach and Miami.

Gonna be headed down with a couple of buddies of mine the last week of February. We're staying the weekend in The LA Hotel Downtown and then spending the rest of the week in Venice Beach. We definitely plan on checking out Santa Monica and the Venice Boardwalk.

We were going to try to catch a Clippers game or Kings game. Are the tickets pretty accessible? Any recommendations on the best way to find some? I found a few on StubHub & Ticketmaster. Am I better off taking a chance and buying scalped tickets on game day?

Any recommendations on places we have to check out?

Just buy them online. I can't speak for the Clippers (I could care a less TBH), but Kings tickets should be easily accessible. I have never had a problem.

A few spots you need to visit -

Griffith Observatory (an absolute must; preferably during the day and during the night).
Santa Monica (lots of great shopping).
The Getty Center.
Mulholland Highway.
Malibu Canyon.
Amoeba in Hollywood if you're a big music buff (I always stock up there).
The Peterson if you're a car fan.

Hi guys, sorry to intrude on the Kings board (I'm an Oilers fan... so please don't be too harsh with me, haha) -- I'm looking at enrolling in some courses down in California, but seeing as I'm in Edmonton I am not especially familiar with the areas around Burbank/Pasadena/Alhambra. I was down there for an expo late in November for the first time.

Could the locals here please let me know a bit more about that area in particular? I'm finding it pretty difficult to get a read on areas to rent (from what I can see on Craigslist there seems to be a bit of a problem with rental fraud...) and seeing as I'm not a native it makes it difficult trying to look for a place that meets the eye test i.e. clean, quiet, safe neighbourhood. I'd certainly be grateful for any advice and counsel you guys could give a Canadian newcomer. PM's would be great, if anyone has the time and inclination. Thanks very much again ahead of time.

Sorry, just reposting this after being pointed here by Bad Will Hunting (thanks man!). Cheers = )

Alhambra would probably be the least expensive of the three. Continue East and Duarte would probably be cheaper also. Burbank second. And Pasadena would be the most expensive. I lived in Pasadena for a long time so any questions you have regarding those three areas I could easily answer. Pasadena is a fantastic city with a rich history. I plan on buying another house there further down the road (I'm abroad now). All three are great areas. Pasadena and Burbank have more to do than Alhambra though. Some other neighboring cities you should look at are Glendale, La Crescenta, and Montrose. If you are interested in community colleges I would recommend PCC over GCC.

I knew you were a chick!

I'd love to give more info but not too familiar with those areas. Sounds like RP gots the deets. Definitely be leery of CL ads for rentals. There are a ton of fake postings on there. Just use common sense. If the price seems too good to be true, it's a scam. Try rad pads and hot pads for rental listings. There are scams on there too so be careful and good luck!
