Henry Ford Museum/ Greenfield Village will burn an entire day. Take a drive around Belle Isle, it's a mile from where you're staying. Eat at Hop Cat or Jolly Pumpkin. Check out 3rd Man Records if you eat at either of those places. Check and see if Detroit Bus Tours is running, Punch Bowl Social, Fowling Warehouse, stroll around Greektown, find a parkind area there and take the People Mover (to the game and for a tour)..that outta keep you occupied.

Thanks. I didn't want to spend the day in a bar. What's the weather going to be like? Here in Atlanta it was 86 yesterday and it's going to be 50 tomorrow.

Not sure when you're coming. If it's soon, it will be chilly. There was still a fair amount of ice flow in the Detroit River yesterday. You lose about 10 degrees near the water, so layer up.

Speaking of, you'll be close to the river. The Milliken State Park River walk is close to you. That makes for a nice outing downtown.

I'm really jazzed up about my visit to the Joe on Saturday. If that game is half as good as the Leafs game I'll be satisfied.

Does anybody know anything about Steve's Soul Food?

Thanks Detroit for a near perfect hockey weekend. I'm glad i got to see the Joe before it's gone. I only wish I'd come sooner.

Late reply, but they're were about a 1/3 of the face value on stubhub last I went to a game. Went last year, paid about $100 for 3 lower bowl seats, but then again, first at year the pizza palace could be a bit higher, but it's still pre-season.

Tigers tickets should be cheap too. :sarcasm: Although if they're playing Cleveland, expect lots of Indians fans.

So anybody know where we're able to park for free at the new arena? Kinda like it was on Jefferson at the Joe. Or will it be impossible? Too far? Not safe.

Maybe if you pre-game at Jolly Pumpkin or Hop Cat area and take the M1 tram to the arena. Even then, the free parking is over by 2nd Street and good luck finding a spot.

Z's Villa - then take the free shuttle to the rink.

Or any other bar for that matter..

Have walked from the Joe to Motorcity Casino Hotel which is 2 mile.
Plenty of people walking outside when a game is finished.

Going for my 5th time and never felt un safe.

The new area is exponentially safer if you're talking about street parking compared to parking down the dark depths of Jefferson in the past. On the flipside, its probably not going to be free and might be short-term at 2 hours. You can find up to 4 hours @ $1.50/hr in many places within walking distance or M1 distance though.

And in no area surrounding the arena should you feel unsafe. The back part of the arena from about Bookies to about a block past Temple Bar/The Masonic looks unpleasant but its not because its some unsafe hood area - its because its a deserted real estate development war zone. There are a bunch of hold-outs and take-overs there buts its mostly due to developers and investors. The actual areas where you'd be concerned about the residents therein are almost miles away at that point. On all of three other sides, there have been middle-class-at-worst investments for over a decade.

I'm almost the antithesis of every demographic that should feel safe in that area (the lone exception being religion) and yet I walk around that area at ease. Its become clear to me that most of the people on here that are proponents of the idea that the area is unsafe (or would be unsafe without the Illitches investment) don't frequent Detroit whatsoever. If they did, then they'd be embarrassed by some of the claims they make about danger and development. Really, if a bunch of hipsters and chicks have been living in and/or frequenting the areas surrounding "The District" for over a decade and have never had any problems, nor is there a culture of danger, then a bunch of Internet Badasses bemoaning the areas' plight should be ashamed.

The folks working the ticket office accommodated my written request for a pocket schedule. They even sent 2! Turns out the game I am going to on 12/11 is Larkin bobblehead night. Do they provide ample bobbleheads or should I make it a point to show up early if I'd like to ensure getting one? Here in AZ the bobbleheads are only available to the first 7,500 or so.

Visiting my brother in Coldwater for Thanksgiving, also going to catch the Devils Wings game Saturday. I'm looking for parking suggestions. That always seems to be my biggest issue when driving to arenas I've never been to before. What is the parking situation at Little Ceasars?

Thanks!

Wow! You're going to Coldwater for Thanksgiving? I'm sorry. It's my hometown so I can joke about it. Dutch Uncle has the best cream filled Long John.

Had a great time at the game this weekend! Beautiful arena and great fans! Parking really wasn't bad, nor was getting into the city. Exiting was a cluster, though.

Hey Folks, crossing the river with a few friends this Friday for the Leafs@Wings game. Looking to snag some tickets probably in the upper bowl, is there any particular sections/rows that I should avoid? I had heard from a friend the new stadium has some obstructed seating, but haven't been yet myself.

The gondola seating blocks the jumbotron in the higher rows but the view of the ice is not blocked. Monitors have been added to the gondola base so you can still see what's on the jumbotron.

Staying at the Atheneum for the game tomorrow. Got two questions.

1 - Gold medal world junior game at 8pm - Are there TVs in the new arena I can watch this game on? It will be on NHL Network. Haven't been to the LCA yet. I don't care about the Wings game as much as I care about just seeing the new arena and watching this junior game. Hoping its possible I can just wonder around the arena and stop in at TVs to see the gold game.

2 - Silver game at 4pm. Athenium doesn't seem to offer NHL Network. Whats the closest option to both the hotel and the arena that would have NHL Network to grab a beer and watch the game.
