Found clips for the Ducks game dated 2/20/2009.

Thx a lot! Remembered that Draper slapshot like yesterday, but not much else. :)

Noticed that those days are wrong, it shows me the European starting times at night and day is +1.

COL @DET, Feb 15th, 2009 (6-5 SO loss)
NSH @DET, Feb 18th, 2009 (2-6 win)
ANA @ DET, Feb 20th, 2009 (2-5 win)

There's enough vacant land in Detroit to fit the entire city of San Francisco. People are starting to put it to good use. The city motto is, "We hope for better things; it shall arise from the ashes". People live that shit. I've never seen a more engaged group of people than Detroiters to make good things happen in the face of adversity.

Good to hear, I've never been to Michigan myself, but have had friends from Detroit & other cities in MI, including the UP.

Re: SF, never been there either, wouldn't wanna ever go there, too many reasons to list... they literally crap in the city streets, true story. Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry character was based in SF, he would not be proud of the cesspool it's become.

Any ideas as to some good brick and mortar places to buy a big Michigan poster map that I can frame? Obviously in Michigan. Is it perhaps the airport or a schmancy Michigan tourist store place?

Are you looking for a standard road map type without the creases or something more on the decorative side? If the latter there is a few online retailers that are MI based that have some options. More on the specialized side and not what you want if looking for a standard road map.

Hello guys, if someone was planning to visit Detroit for the first time in awhile - what are the best places to go?

How long and what are things you like to do or food you like? Will you have a car or are you just planning to stay downtown and uber/ taxi.

Museums
DIA (one of the best Art Museums in NA, they were doing online reservations last I checked)
Detroit Museum of History (Across the street from the DIA and just a fun look into Detroit, somewhat recently renovated)
Motown Museum (Never been, but I've heard good things)
Charles Wright Museums (African American history, also I've heard good things but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet)
Henry Ford/ Greenfield Village (You need a car for this one if you are staying in Detroit as its about 20-30 minute drive)

Architecture:
Fisher Building
Guardian Building
They used to offer free building tours but not sure if that is still happening

Markets:
Eastern Market: I believe its still the largest open are market in the states

Parks/ Hang Out Areas:
Belle Isle (a little far for most to walk to) one of the largest city parts in the country. Aquarium/ Conservatory/ Nature Zoo/ Mariner Museum. I'd lean towards a weekend and it isn't a great winter place as its on an island in the middle of the Detroit river.
Campus Martius (Commons area right in the heart of downtown. Love the winter fest if you show up near the holidays. Live music, festivals, skating rink etc.)
Riverwalk: down by the GM headquarters. Just a nice way to explore the riverside.
Greektown: Food + Casino
Corktown: Lots of fun food & bars. *My personal favorite*

Theater:
The Fox Theater is a beauty of a venue. More upscale shows here.
Fisher: Nice venue not as fancy as the Fox. Again more upscale.
Masonic: Being used more and more for shows. Pretty cool old historic build with beautiful theaters/ ballrooms etc.
Opera House: see above
There are also a plethora of fun smaller venues in Detroit that are great visits for your more trad rock/ punk/ metal/ pop concerts.

Wife and I just booked flights to Detroit to see the Devils on December 18 and Lions on December 19. We are big Lions fans and have been waiting for years to have it line up that the Devils (or her Flyers) are playing on the same weekend as a Lions home game.

Given this will be our first time in Detroit - what’s the best Detroit-style pizza place? Or any other “must do/eat” places while in town? We’ll be arriving the Thursday night before that weekend.

I'm going to preface this with admitting I haven't lived in Detroit in some time (but lived there the first 23 years of my life and go back semi-frequently), so there are a lot of amazing places that have opened since I lived there, and I am not familiar with them. So my list is more in the "classic staples" category, but make no mistake, I'm not recommending anything that isn't legitimately good. Several of these spots are legends with tremendous staying power.

Detroit-style pizza - Can't go wrong with Loui's or Cloverleaf, but this being your first time, just go to the awesome original.... Buddy's. Don't overthink it. It's closer to downtown than the other two anyway. Buddy's is the forerunner, but most importantly, it's delicious.

Coney Dog - You gotta grab one of these. Just choose between American Coney Island and Lafayette Coney Island. They are next door to each other. There is a rivalry, and people are often loyal to one or the other. Lafayette is a bit more divey, but it's my go-to when I'm in town. Can't go wrong with American though. Lafayette is open pretty late, forget if American is too. Good after-game/late-night bite to grab.

BBQ - Slow's is awesome, great food and huge beer list. Gets crowded so plan ahead with this one. But if you're in the mood for BBQ, this is a great choice, as long as you aren't waiting too long.

Mexican - I used to go to Taqueria Mi Pueblo on occasion way back in the day, place is excellent, but there are a bunch of good joints in Mexicantown, including a couple more upscale spots. If you want to get some good Mexican, that area is a great hub.

Polish - Head to Hamtramck and hit up Polonia. Food is so good. My mouth is watering thinking of their pierogis.

Belgian fun - Cadieux Cafe. Decent pub fare with a huge Belgian beer list. Plus, FEATHER BOWLING. Check out their website, if it looks appealing, I suggest renting a feather bowling lane ahead of time, they book up quick. Fun place, good spot to have a "session."

Just a bar - My heart and soul belong to Nemo's in Corktown. Old school joint, nothing super fancy, but ton of character and history on the walls. I used to have rapport with a few of the bartenders there. Always had a great time.

Those are all very reasonable places price-wise btw (Slow's and Buddy's being maybe $$$, instead of $ or $$ like the others). I've never been one to gravitate toward the $$$$ or $$$$$ places, so I'll let others chime in on the fancy stuff, of which there are plenty.

Buddy's and Lafayette. Both places are Detroit.

Had my eyes on the same game then my family went and planned a Christmas party for that day. Going to the Islanders game on the 14th instead. Will be trying to get to the Cardinals game on the 19th. Tickets should be easy to come by and cheap. Hard to fathom I have spent $500 on the Lions the past two weeks between travel, food, lodging and gambling.

Another question: if I buy tickets in-person at the arena box office, would they give me printed tickets?

Usually this has worked for me at arenas but we tried in Dallas and the refused to print tickets.

Besides Lafayette Coney (it’s the best), and Detroit style pizza the dish I miss the most is an appetizer from Fishbones which is in Greektown, easy walk from Ford Field. There they have a New Orleans Bar-B-Q Shrimp that comes in a sauce that is to die for. Seriously, the sauce might be even better than the Shrimp, I dip the French bread into it and am in heaven.

The restaurant itself is cool too, they have one of the biggest indoor waterfalls you will ever see. Too bad it is almost never on. Hope you have fun in Detroit, I always had a good time in Greektown. Do yourself a favor and get those BBQ shrimp from Fishbones, you can thank me later.

100% mobile. It stinks. I loathe mobile ticketing. Phones die, apps crash and no more ticket stub to save.

It's been a little while since I had pizza downtown and I just wanted to check if there was a buddy's downtown and there is. I would probably recommend this over Pizzapapalis, I do like Pizzapapalis but its really heavy pizza like more than one peice and you probably need a wheel barrel to roll you out. Buddy's has a great menu and is quite the fixture in the Detroit area.

LCA site says all tickets are mobile. There is, however, someone on E-Bay selling outrageously priced tickets for the Wings games in which Seider and Raymond score their first points. They are LCA printed tickets so they still may be selling. I bought physical tickets at the Tigers box office in July so it would not be a shocker if the other Ilitch also had printed tickets.

Thanks for sharing! I found the eBay listing and have sent a message to the seller to see if they can tell me how they got the ticket. I’ll report back if they respond.

Edit: they responded with “You can get if you are a season ticket holder and they print them. My friend sells me his after a game like this”

Hopefully they will accommodate you. At the game currently and have seen a few with tickets.
