The walk over to The Joe isn't too bad. I walked there from The Old Shillelagh. My party was going to take the shuttle but we figured we'd get there faster on foot due to the post Lions traffic and the snow that never stopped falling. So we set off on foot and then watched as the OS shuttle passed us as we were crossing Jefferson near the Joe Louis fist. Kinda funny. Not a bad walk, though, even in the snow.
My cousin swears by Buddy's and Pizzapapolis. I've never been to either but I do enjoy Jet's. They opened two locations out in Arizona (Phoenix & Chandler) so I've been very excited about that.
Yeah downtown is getting a lot more walkable. The Joe is mostly just in an awkward spot. Its not like there are nice bars/ restaurants right across the street. Plus there are some spots you wouldn't want to walk to from the Joe like Corktown, which someone visiting might not really know.
