I can't believe what some people are willing to give this guy in term and/or cap hit. No way would I do some of your contract suggestions. Terrible idea.

Do not want Vinny. I'd rather we just let Schenn develop into our second line center for the next 8-10 years. Vinny also hasn't been the same since he was Matt Cooked a couple years ago.

100% agree. Don#t get me wrong.

My point was, which one of the 2 possibel contracts, long term-low cap hit or short-term-high cap hit would any of us prefer.

Sorry but there is no way Vinny goes for 4 / 18. I'm thinking hes more along the lines of 5/25ish , 6/30ish. I don't think its about the money, more about the length of contract at this point

Fine then... 7 years, 7 mill, 1 mill cap hit.

It's always about the money.

Bear with me :sarcasm:

Sign Vinny, Thomas, Gagne for a combined $11.5m AAV ($5m, $4m, $2.5m)

Trade both Schenns to Anaheim (plus picks?) for Ryan and Sbisa. Trade Mesz for a pick(s)/prospect.

Lines are:
Ryan - Giroux - Voracek
Hartnell - Vinny - Simmonds
Gagne - Couturier - Read
Talbot - ??? - ???

Timonen - Coburn
Streit - Sbisa
Grossmann - ???

Thomas
Mason

And you have just over $4m cap to plug the gaps... I thank you :sarcasm: ;)

Fine with me, let someone else pay that, I won't be disappointed if he doesn't sign here. Not even expecting him to.

No its not, the money becomes an issue because teams are going to bid for him. A team will surely offer him some deal 6/30, or 5/25. And I could see him turning it down to go to a contender for less money. Not free but less. People always go to the extremes :sarcasm:

You're gonna get yelled at. I tried a similar thing yesterday, but had a Ryan / Lecav / Read second line, Stalberg / Schenn / Simmonds third and no one liked it.

Just saying that term is money. I don't disagree with your guess on the deal he will get, 6/30 seems just about right.

That team gets a lot older.

The only deal I can think of that I would do for Ryan and Sbisa would be Coburn and Read + picks. If they don't want that then I would look at other options. We need to keep this core together.

Ryan-Giroux-Voracek
Hartnell-Schenn-Simmonds
Gagne-Couturier-XXX
Talbot-Laughton-Read

Timonen-Schenn
Streit-Sbisa
Grossmann-Gus

And if/when Laughton is ready for the 3rd line

Schenn-Giroux-Ryan
Hartnell-Couturier-Voracek
Gagne-Laughton-Simmonds
Talbot-XXX-Rinaldo

3 years probably doesn't get it done. 6 years is to long, so Homer and Vinny are probably haggling somewheres in the middle. So say 5 years because someone out there is offering that. So the money, 4mil is not enough and 6 mil is too much.
So say 5.5mil because again someone would be offering that.

So Homer signs him for 5.5 mil for 5 years, for total of 27.5 mil. Is that ok with folks?

Not with me. He is not what we need unless he wants to sign a 1 or 2 year deal and then go back to Tampa. Lets just sign a free agent winger or two, try to improve the defense if possible and call it a day

Edit: Maybe something like this

Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Stalberg-Schenn-Simmonds
Gagne-Couturier-Read
Talbot-Laughton-Rinaldo

That's too much. I'd go up to 4/18.

9. I'm not as certain about Briere because he wasn't as front and centre at the draft, but guesstimates on Lecavalier's next contract are around the five-year, $25-million mark. That said, there are a couple of executives who said they wouldn't be surprised if a team asks to bump that up to seven years with the last two at lower salaries to lessen the cap hit. It's also expected that Lecavalier will ask for no-move or no-trade protection.

LOL if there is one GM in this league that is willing to put those extra years on the deal to drive down the cap it's Homer. Watch him sign here for 7 years.

Just sign Boyd Gordon for 4th line, PK and as a faceoff specialist instead! (I have said his name a lot on here recently, but he is one of the most undervalued UFA's) And then sign another winger with the money saved on not getting Lecavalier.

Then Couts and Schenn can be allowed to develop more offensively, and going off progression I would expect them to both be around 47-48% on faceoffs this year... Couts figures are not helped by the guys he regularly has faceoffs against tbh, he is against a faceoff specialist on most draws due to the role he plays.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind Lecav, but on a 2 year deal or something, which in the open market I feel will be inflated as will his price.

Is Lecavalier willing/able to play wing? If so I would give him 5 years at around $5 million.

Lecavalier-Giroux-Voracek
Hartnell-Couturier-Schenn
Gagne/Simmonds-Laughton-Read
Gagne/Rinaldo-Talbot-Simmonds/Gagne

That is a pretty sick lineup, even though there are three players over the age of 30!

Vinny is a total waste on the wing IMO. You lose his draw abilities, and I think you take away a lot of his playmaking by sticking him on the wing. IIRC hes like 54-55% on the dot?

Vinny was primarily playing on the second line in tampa right? I feel like he still has some good production value, but I only like it if we can stick him on LW with Giroux

Last year he was, and the rest of the Flyers not counting Giroux were 44%.

Vinny signs here, we might see Couts or Schenn traded for a defender or sniper. My best bet would be Anahiem. Couts+Coburn for Hiller and Ryan.

Also we don't need to worry about no stinkin' salary cap.

People don't think signing Vinny spells the end for Couts, but it does really. I can't see them moving Schenn because of Luke, even though thats a stupid business premise.

The more I think about it, the more I want Lecavalier. It will ease Couturier into the 2C role for the next couple years while Lecavalier is slowly aging into the 3C role. Lecavalier seems like he will be the perfect veteran to have in 3 years who can win draws and use his size to his advantage even while his skills decline.

I think signing Vinny greatly increases our chances to be competitive next season, and we're going to need that next year in an extremely tough division.
