He's been playing fantastic hockey for us. The fact he is so good on faceoffs is huge in itself (something we have lacked for years). But he is always engaged, second in the team in hits, and doesn't take shifts off. 9 points in his first 10 games as a Ranger.
Imagine if he starts to score on all those breakaways.

Love this signing so far!

He was hammered along the boards in one of the last two games chasing down the puck and he shrugged it off and kept going.....that's what I like to see...the second effort on puck retrieval . He looks like a piece for the playoffs . Add in Othmann and Cuylee next season or later in the playoffs if needed and we have the start of a nasty forward crew with the addition of Vinny-Blais-and maybe one of those two kids and maybe Rydahl......and in a perfect setting we won't even see a sniff of Reaves post season . We will be harder to play against for sure .

I don't like him. There's only room fir one Vinny. Prospal. Well technically he was vaclav so I guess it's ok

I keep telling myself to focus on him but then failing. But he pops out on his own frequently.
How can you not like him? He has been one of the most consistent forwards on the team so far. Also the only player in the top 6 that will consistently throw hits.

yeah alot better than Strome.

Manufactures scoring chances himself. if he could just a little better defensively and little more dominant in the faceoff circle and id be over the moon.

did not like the signing at all at first but he's proven me wrong.

He made a couple of really slick passes against the grain/flow, right onto Breads stick which surprised me because it was not only a difficult play to make but he also needed to know where Bread was going to be without any hesitation.

They are obviously communicating with each other well and if they both already know where each other is on the ice without looking after 10 or so games, we wont see a drop off from Strome at all. It may even be an upgrade in that regard offensively, which was something people were concerned about.

In fact, he three zone play and faceoff prowess is already a noticeable upgrade. He could really have 7-8 goals right now too.

Not to mention when shit starts to matter for real, he puts it into another gear and is an absolute maniac

Strome was really a sore spot in the lineup. Kind of soft , made better by Panarin, and just such a bad finisher to be on a top 2 line.

Trocheck fits the GG system much better , is tougher and can actually shoot and finish. This is a much better fitting piece for Panarins line.

Very underrated signing by Drury considering our cap constraints.

He's really been a nice fit, his motor stands out in a big way. Shift after shift he's always moving his feet, skating through defenders, retrieving pucks and keeping plays alive. So far so good.

The rangers haven't had this since the pre-Lundqvist era. A bonafide 1st line elite center and a very good 2nd line center. For once we look good down the middle with Zibs-Tro-Chytil. Now if we can just replace Carpenter with Rydahl we'll be golden.

Trocheck is just a great fit on his line and brings many elements we don't really have. His skating, shooting, faceoffs, and physicality are all very welcome. I knew Trocheck was physical and liked to hit but he's more intense than I thought.

The guy had 3 or 4 golden opportunities last night..every game he's getting numerous high danger chances. He certainly knows how to get open and takes what the defense gives him

The intensity is great, and he sneakily has a bit of a rat streak in him. There was a moment in either the Flyers game or the game before where we had a bit of a lull and then he just decided to throw a monster hit along the wall in the offensive zone to give the team a jolt. It's a bit hilarious how much he's been missing the net, but he's been so good both at finding spots in traffic to shoot and skating through it to open lanes for Panarin/Laf. He's been a perfect fit so far

I see what you are saying. We simply have different views. You’re making doomsday assumptions on the relative declines of several very different players. You’re entitled to your opinion. You’re not entitled to anyone agreeing. Hahah. And what I was assessing was your contention about Trocheck and his contract. Which I still feel is perfectly fine and easily moved by the time we may want to.
Yeah, I too believe we shouldn't pigeon hole EVERY player to declining. Even though skills may "somewhat" decline, others can actually make up for it with their experience and still refining their game/skills.

Canes fan coming in peace here... eventhough, goddamnit I hate your team (mostly because you've had elite talent will their way onto your team but whatever).

Wanted to check in and see our boy Vinnie Chase was fitting in and seeing his stat line and reading comments, it looks like he's doing well for you guys. I always liked Tro on the Canes and you all saw him up close before him joining the Rangers so you probably had a bit of an idea of what you were getting. But after seeing on the Canes for 2.5 years here's my take on what you can expect...

The Good
- 200 ft game
- Non-stop motor
- Good but not elite speed
- Deceptively good shot (can kind of score from anywhere)
- Goes to the dirty areas
- Plays physical
- Good faceoff guy
- Can play in all situations EV, PP, PK... maybe not the best in OT though
- One of the best agitators when he wants to be
- Can slot up and down the line up and generally can find chemistry with different types of players
- Pretty much a slam dunk for 50-55 pts but when he's at his peak he could hit 70-75 in the right situation

The Bad
- Injury concern... part of this is just the way he is, and part of it is the way he plays... which is too big and aggressive for his frame
- He can wear down as the season goes along... see above
- Will take dumb penalties... and often at bad times
- Can score an empty net goal but sometimes has questionable decision making in crunch time
- Tries to do too much... he has decent speed and hands but he will try to rush into the offensive zone all by himself and take on 2-4 players... he will pull of some cool moves but then ultimately flub it and fall down or something and then there's a breakout the other way... this is why I don't feel he's great in OT
- On the good I mentioned faceoffs and overall he has a great % but hot damn if in crunch time situations where YOU NEED A WIN for whatever reason it seems like he never gets it done... probably and almost certainly confirmation bias but something I noticed of him
- Can get emotional and that leads to the bad penalties or bad decision making... the emotion can be a good thing as well but you ride the highs and lows

Should also say he seemed to be very well liked in the locker room. Don't know if I would call him a leader exactly but I think he's a guy that helps team morale. I wouldn't maybe call him an elite 2C but definitely a very solid, above average one.

I was surprised you got him for so little AAV... like I was sure he was getting over 6 and maybe even close to 7... but as we saw this offseason the money just wasn't there for the non-elite players... look at Kadri. Sure the term is too long but that's always going to happen in UFA. The last few years likely won't look great but not horrible... my only concern would be injuries and his body breaking down. So much of what Tro brings is that fire and tenacity in that style of play. If he can't do that full tilt then I would wonder how effective he would be but those are bridges you cross down the road.

Anyway, that's my take. Hope you all lose every game. I hate that we didn't get to see a Slavin - Fox pairing in Carolina.
