Is it hard?
Yes and no. There's a huge learning curve, and you'll lose a lot of settlements for sure. It's definitely really hard to fully build up and defend a kingdom over a long period of time. But at the same time, a lot of it is pretty casual, at least in the early game which is all I'm familiar with. You can pause things, and you're mostly issuing orders to your workers, planning production, developing your colony, etc. So it can be laid back in a sense. But things can go off the rails and spiral out of control if you're not careful, so it's challenging too

Picked up The Outer Worlds Spacer Choice Edition as it was free on EPIC yesterday. Not yet installed

Finally got BG3 as its on sale on Steam (yeah, only 6$ off) So far I've spent more time installing mods and creating a character than actually playing. Got through the intro cinematics and stopped there

What mods?

If anyone is looking for some good character builds this guy's YT channel is pretty good for this type of content: https://www.youtube.com/@cRPGBro.

Anyone else having weird issues with Steam? Sometimes when I log on/launch a game it cuts my network connection. I'm connected to the router via an ethernet cable, so its not a wireless thing. Usually have to reboot.

I have no issues currently, but I've frequently had network issues with Steam (across multiple PCs over the years). I hate that it has become the default PC gaming portal, it's such a piece of bloat.

Was just going through some old consoles and games that I totally forgot I had.

Watched a few reports from CES and it sounded like an LG oled monitor could do 480 but not at 4k yet.
Those are pretty much endgame monitors. Everything you need.

If everything works for me, I`ll will upgrade my Monitor for Oled 4K, graphic card for new Nvidia super model and new CPU ryzen 5700X3D.

All this to replay some old games I love :)

Very rarely do I get new games on release day. I usually wait until they go on sale a few months later.

But damn if I didn't just pre-order this bad boy.

Looks like I'm buying a new gaming laptop in March. My Legion is dying and that's a good month for it from a $ perspective.

Tempted to spring for a 4080.
mobile 4080 has 12GB VRAM which is enough for today's AAA games, but might be not future-proof when games start to use AI in games. If there will a possibility for 4090, go for it. Anyway, 4080 is an awesome card.

I can't stop playing RimWorld. Been on my radar for a while, but never got it because I never saw a deep discount on it. Decided to just go ahead and get it. Now all I do is play RimWorld.

Anyone play Returnal on PS5? I downloaded it but am not sure if I want to start it since the reviews are pretty divisive. @twabby didn't you play through it?

Yes. It's excellent. The key is to not get frustrated early in the game because it is very challenging at first. But once you clear the first boss you've pretty much beat the hardest part of the game IMO.

Define "early." First 5 hours of the game? 10?

Also, stoned or not stoned? Seems like it could be trippy to play through if you're baked.

I'd say 5 hours or so. You're going to die a lot at first, and it'll seem like you lose all of your progress, but there are weapon upgrades that carry over for each run even if you die. These upgrades combined with just getting better at the game will make things easier, though of course still challenging.

I'd say not stoned if you are still trying to actually progress through the game for the first time. You'll need quick reaction times that might be hindered if you choose to partake in some recreational activities, but I guess you be the judge of whether you can still be a skilled enough player while high. After you get good and acquire a lot of upgrades to make things easier then yeah it definitely seems like a fun game to play while under the influence though I can't say I've done it myself.
