Between BG3 on Aug 3, Starfield on Sep 1, and Phantom Liberty on Sep 26, this is as hyped as I've been for new releases in years, and they're all perfectly spaced out to hold me over until hockey starts back up!
I think there will be enough of gaming content until the hockey season's end. The real question is

I'm this close to posting this in the team chat for the crew I manage and saying this will not be accepted.

As a (recovering) big D&D player I was super looking forward to BG3. But I've tried playing several times since Early Access started, and I just hate Larian games. Many of their 'takes' on things like environment effects, enemy AI and party member personalities go against my play style and irritate me that they force me into playing a way that I don't enjoy.

For the D&D system in a game, Solasta was light years better.

It took me some time before I found my way. I started Divinity Original Sin 2 multiple times and quit early because of bad choices I made. But once it hit me, I should play slowly and take my time to learn the world, abilities, story, and mechanics. I used to play fast pace games where you grind non stop brainlessly. Now I enjoy turn-based games with a good story. Can't wait BG3 is out this week.

Yep. Solasta captured D&D way better than BG3 has. I don't even think BG3 is a good Baldur's Gate game (having played the originals when they came out and the remasters recently). Plus, Larian appears to be run by 13 year-old boys... their sense of humor and mine don't mesh very well...

I recognize and acknowledge that my opinion on Larian games is pretty isolated - this is a me thing, not them, I'm the weird one here. I do generally love turn based games, my favorite games of all time are almost all turn based RPGs, going back to gold box games or Bards Tale or Ultima 4 on my old Commodore in the early 90s. But for some reason I just don't like any of theirs I've played (all of them.)

You do not stand alone.

Ed - thanks for the Solasta recommendation. Hadn't heard of it.

With my new headset, I am now enjoying this on line community thing.
Still weird though ..

I joined a posse and now maybe think maybe they are some maga KKK people.

They wear all white, have a dishonorbale rating and this one kid keeps repeating "im not gay, im not gay, im not gay ..".

All the tell tale signs of being low functioning members of our society.

I want to find a pothead suburban dad posse.

Started playing the Zelda game, can't get enough.

Nothing more exhilarating than taking more time to build a vehicle that can't steer than it would have taken to walk to the place you wanted to go, and I mean that for real.

Enjoying Diablo 4 myself….level 34 Rogue. No complaints. The gear churn is annoying at times…..a never ending upgrade fest…..just when I get a cool looking piece, a rando upgrade drops that's better but looks worse lol….

I know it’s old but I’m having a great time with World War Z. Challenge Horde mode is a lot of fun. There are a few things about the game that I’d change but generally it’s a lot of fun.

Once you get access to all of the Zonai devices you can make some absolutely wild builds. So much fun.

Man I was thinking it would be really weird to first come into use of vcoms in games now compared to the very early 2000s that I experienced in the competitive Q3 CTF days.

We're gonna be best friends talking about this game, because holy shit. I can't believe how much depth is crammed into a switch game, makes the Pokemon series look like amateurs. The physics are stupid good for a game that could have come out on the 360.

Now, I'll grant that I like to play my video games a little intoxicated but I laughed like a f***ing idiot the first time I accidentally stuck a rock to my shield and a log to my sword and ran around like a doofus covered in woodland materials.

Love cooking (go figure, as a cook at heart), love all the physics, love the sheer amount of time my mind has been blown by puzzle solutions and the amount of lateral problem solving you can undertake, and how much they expect you to. Already counted a few times I thought I was "breaking the game" by climbing somewhere I shouldn't be and then having that be exactly what they expected you to do because you knew you could. At this point I actually underestimate my options by trying to "do it right", made the Wind Temple take like an hour. In reality I had the right idea but kept attaching the icicle to the broken lever wrong.

Where do I go to priritize Zonai stuff, because I've heard some people can get well through the game without it by complete accident and so far all I have are Fans, Wings, Pots, and the Fire device.

This could be my age and experience talking but I always felt like Halo 2/3 was the golden age of voice chat gaming. So many backgrounds, near universal appeal and ease of access, no meme pigeonholing, you just met and played with people and some of those people were kids who sucked but some were... good old southern dudes with good words and love to spare, plenty of stereotype breaking alliances came in that period of time for me.

The Zonai device dispensers are located primarily in the sky. But there are ways to get some on the surface and on the depths as well. Once you get AutoBuild you only need Zonanite to create what you’ve made in the past, even if you’re out of the actual resource itself.

f***, I hate the sky

Just getting to the wind temple stressed me out so bad because of the platforming. I'm getting more comfortable but goddamn it.

Where's Autobuild?

Start a side quest with [I forget his/her name] in Lookout Landing and you’ll get AutoBuild. Don’t want to spoil it too much.

Also the platforming leading up to the Wind Temple and the boss battle in the temple was the peak of the game for me! I thought it was neat that the ascent was part of the “dungeon” without being part of the dungeon itself, if that makes sense.

It was neat but I get real nervous and weird whenever it’s “fall or death”, and then I didn’t figure out parts of the temple for a while (as said above)

It was canonically great but I got so stressed doing the platforming

The grind to level a character back up without using the story mode in Diablo4 after season 1 release has killed me. I just can’t get back into it. Or I jump on it and just have no clue what to do in order to level up and get to world tier 3&4.

Remnant 2 is pretty pretty good. Gunplay is satisfying and I like the Souls-like loot systems.

I'm also enjoying the System Shock Remake on the Deck, though I'm definitely influenced by my nostalgia for that series.

Do you mean so you can play the seasons? I made a similar mistake…..BUT I figure I’ll level another class for the season play when I feel like it….

No you can still play the season content if you've completed the story. But when you choose to skip the main story (since you already did it) for the new character and jump straight into the season 1 story line the actual new stuff isn't enough to really get you leveled up all that much.

Basically the main story when the game came out got you to the point of being able to go to world tier 3 from which you could use nightmare dungeons to get you to 4 and the end game stuff. With starting over on a new character the season 1 stuff doesn't get you to a high enough level to jump straight into world tier 3 and nightmare dungeons. Maybe I'm missing something but now that I've completed the season 1 story line stuff I'm just hanging out around level 30 with nothing to do but slowly grind before I can get into world tier 3.
