How is he this bad
No goddamned clue. I'm guessing he wants to play HIS way and thinks it's great fun to be worthless and anyone who looks up builds is cheating. He's like the Torts of Diablo. Him and my other friend play Sorcerers and the other guy wasn't as good as mine but still didn't die every three seconds. He uses an hybrid ice build. The garbage guy uses all fire.

Going your own way is good, to a degree. Not to the degree where your build is boiled ass.

I specifically avoided bone spear necro when I started hitting a wall because it was clear that it was going to get smacked down. That's how Diablo and PoE works: something is too fun, the Devs will destroy it, and then you have to reverse all that time spent making the build to shift elsewhere. So I found a way to make my pure summoner build function instead, and since seemingly nobody has figured out how to work that build I haven't noticed any difference. If anything I'm at a boost because one of my aspects is doing 30% bonus damage instead of 20%. If the internet is to be believed, I am the only player in the entire D4 playerbase that has benefited.

That's my rule in these games. See what is OP, and go down a tier. I don't care about maximizing speed and efficiency, I just want to grind enemies to dust and rob their corpses.

I don't question their competency. That's your standard incel rage territory. I do think their directives are such that they don't line up with a good player experience. That fault lies with the higher-ups.

I don't think there is a best because personal preferences decide that.

If you truly want meaningful variety and replayability, nothing does that better than PoE. The convention where PoE 2 is shown and the beta announced is in less than 2 weeks, so the gap is only going to grow. No one can compete with having a decade plus of developed content that's still relevant. Likewise, no one else puts out an entirely new endgame system every 3 months.

If you want a slower-paced game with less mobs and offline play, I would say Grim Dawn.

The best middle ground between the two should be Last Epoch. The crafting system in particular is A++. It needs a little time to build up more content, though.

If you want a casual in and out quickly option with a fast pace to the gameplay, Torchlight Infinite. Crafting here also shines, albeit in a different way. Every time you try to add on to an item, it can simply be reverted if you get a bad outcome. That's how it should be for their target audience.
I’m not doubting their competency, I think they knew where they were going but were thrown off by “season 0” performing different than where they expected. In a season or two I think theyll be back on track with their original long term plan.

You gonna share what the right way, aka your way is?

I'm going off memory so this is a rough outline.

Skills:

Basic Attack: Golem Smash
Core: Blight (I forget which upgrades)
Ultimate: Army of the Dead

Blighted Corpse Explosion
Decrepify (only one point allocated)
Raise Skeleton/Skeleton Priest

That's right, I have no actual basic attack. Seemingly every summoner you can watch just slops their golem button in their skill bar and loses the ability to cast something else. Usually a curse. This is foolish. There are enough skills to generate corpses that I don't need to use decompose, and I don't need reap because my Boner Army is my attack. And I make my damage bonuses through things that aren't Vulnerability. I generate essence by blowing up corpses.

Important Passives:

Shadowblight (this is basically always procced for a nice damage boost)
Skeleton Boosts: A bunch. Damage, limits to how much they can get hurt per hit, etc.
Golem Boosts: Ditto
Generate Essense By Popping Carcasses
Hewed Flesh
Fueled by Death
Amplify Damage
Terror
Bonded in Essence
Hellbent Commander

Important Legendary Aspects:

Boosting number of Skeletons and Mages
A thingy that sucks enemies into your Blight
Shadowblight boost
Skeletons deal more damage for being alive for over 10 seconds
I think I have one that reduces my damage taken by 15% per type of minion? So 45% reduction for the full army?

That's what I can remember right now. I don't know where I get it from, but my minions get damage bonuses against slowed/crowd controlled enemies. Not gonna try going into Paragon board.

So, order of operation is I walk up to enemies. I curse them with decrepify, which reduces their output and slows them so they take more damage and also activates that 9% amplify damage boost. Then I blight them, which sucks them all in and slows them again which I believe stacks the crowd control damage boost. Blight usually makes them start dropping corpses. I raise one for the skeletal priest, to get a 30% damage boost; by now Shadowblight is in force too. I pop the corpses for the blighted dookie ponds. Everything melts. If needed, I can send my Bloodbag Golem in to do his smash, that's my basic attack, otherwise I save it since it has 16sec cooldown. Blood golem is basically unnkillable and reduces damage you take.

Skeletal Priest is a massively underused skill by summoners and it's probably the most important skill for them; second most important is ditching your basic attack for the Golem Smash so you can have a curse; I think that's something like a 49% damage boost right there or something. Watching streams, it drives me insane how nobody uses the priests. They wait until their skeletons are dying, then they start raising new ones. With the skill that doesn't let them lose more than x% of health per hit, and skeletal priest using the heal perk, you can pretty much always keep your skeletons alive and at a sizable chunk of health. Pop "raise skeleton" on a corpse every five seconds, and you keep a steady huge damage bonus and at the end of each 5 seconds the boners are healed. Also, I think you can only have five blighted corpse pools active at a time, since they stack. so you can pace corpse consumption.

For boss fights I will start with Army of the Dead to do damage, and also drop starter corpses. After that, if the fight is still going on 40-50 seconds later, I'm only using it to replenish my boner army if I lose control of keeping them alive.

I use skeletal reapers to make more corpses on top of what my blight churns out, and shadow mages because my whole thing is built towards bonuses from shadow damage.

I have left things out. But this is the way.

Edit: And I pick equipment based on boosts to the important skills.

Diablo 3 started off way, way worse and ended up being a decent enough game. Too limited for viable builds with how they implemented armor sets in seasons though.

I remember how bad that was at launch. I was so excited. Preordered and everything. Played for a few days and stopped for at least a year. That was a cluster f.

So for Diablo 4 season 1, I think I'm gonna go blood necromancer. I have ideas based on some of the legendary aspects I've seen.

I was gonna go sorcerer, but it looks like they basically just deleted that class from the game. No interest in Rogue. I think there's a real chance that despite their claim they won't patch again until October, that they won't smash Druid. Still kinda traumatized on Barbarian from vanilla D3. So I'll just shuffle builds in the same class.

Set items are coming to D4 in a future update. BEWARE.

I grinded through that absolute shitfest and finished Inferno on Day 3 or 4 because I was lucky enough to choose the only class that could finish the game. Force Armor was absurdly overpowered. With zero exaggeration, the bees in original Inferno Act 3 were the most miserable experience I’ve ever had in a video game.

My problem is that I'm in a place where I'm not willing to put work into games. So figuring out a good build for PoE is a bridge too far for me. But Diablo 4, currently, right now, lives in a nice place relative to my effort level.

Wait for PoE2 and let me give you a build in your preferential style with a thorough guide. It’s really not that complicated to assemble a good leaguestarter. Learning how to choose one is.

My problem is also that I gotta see what the system requirements will be

Low. I still run the game just fine on a tower with a 970 at times.

What you can’t do with older PCs is juice maps to the gills. But no one gets that far on their first character or two. There are people that put an entire hour’s worth of dedicated currency grinding for most endgame players into one single map. That’s all you can’t do.

I got the ultimate since I played the shit out of the beta and loved it. I beat the main story during relesse but couldn’t get myself to play the end game for long periods. I feel like I need to Atleast get my money’s worth of the battlepass for season 1 by playing it.

I have one buddy trying to get me to play the first remnant from the ashes for next weeks Remnant 2 and then my brother wanted to start guild wars 2. Jeez

I’m not positive from the wording, but I just want to make sure you know that you don’t have to use the Battlepass for S1. It stays in your account until you activate it for a season of your choice. Confirmed by a Blizzard employee.

Ohhh I did it know this. Thanks for the heads up. I will most likely save it then. Thanks!
