play the older diablo's? check GOG they have a ton of cheap games..i am sure there is something similar

Titan Quest is/was good..Ancient Greek setting(I think)
Torchlight 1 or 2
Victor Vran
Van Helsing

only thing I haven't found is a Sci-Fi setting

Maybe Transistor from Supergiant Games?

Haven't played it, but it does look really fun, and it's the same team that made Hades.

Diablo/PoE people - are there any similar games out there that are cheaper/free and a good introduction to the genre? I don't really want to drop $70 for Diablo IV and PoE seems very complicated but looking for something to play to see how much I enjoy these types of games.

Grim Dawn is a good comparable. I got it on sale for like $10 on Steam.

This Final Fantasy 16 Demo is pretty impressive. Might even buy the game (at some point).

When was that released? I had no idea. I'm a lifelong FF fan but the characters look dull as hell in XVI so i'm not that hype for it. Story has always been the most important part of FF games to me. Battle system looks fun though.

There’s a solid F2P version of Torchlight (Infinite) that was recently released on mobile platforms and has cross play with Steam. You’re completely fine to play it free. The only real advantage paying gets you is access to the new class for the current season. Then in the following season, that class becomes free for everyone and you have to pay for the next new one.

Transistor sorta counts as a game like Diablo, but also not at all due to the ability to plan out your moves. It’s basically a turn based version of an ARPG.

It’s also one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful games I’ve ever played. Every single person who reads this post owes it to themselves to try it out. Supergiant don’t miss, and this is easily their best in my books.

June 12th! The story so far seems Game of Thrones-esque. Which is an interesting deviation. The combat system is definitely fun. I think the demo is 5 hours of gameplay. I have a feeling that this is going to be a massive game (storage-wise, and hours to completion as well). I’m definitely intrigued by it.

I'll give it a whirl this weekend. Thanks!

You’re welcome!

Another thing: don’t hesitate to use the Active Time Lore function during cinematics (& during gameplay). You can press the touchpad to get to the Active Time Lore. It provides more context on characters, places, prior events, etc. Its an awesome addition by the development team IMO.

I'm already clanned. Suck it.

I'm doing summon necromancer. At least for that class, there's way more build options than D2. Which is nice coming off D3, where you basically had one build option per class every season.

Ever play Project Diablo 2 or Meridian XL? Awesome fun mods for Diablo 2.

Uncharted rules. The closest game has to be The Last of Us. Chances are you already played that, but if not, you should give it a go.
I have not. I'll have to give it a try. Didn't realize it was similar to the Uncharted series. I don't buy a lot of games mainly because being married with a kid you just don't have the time you once did!

LoD was the best part of D2!

Although in some regards runewords really disrupted the balance of the game to some degree.

"Wow this is way better" was my reaction. I'm stumped eternally that I never bought it sooner.

I didn't even use runes when I finally got LoD, I sold every one I got. I'm an idiot.

in D2:R I know about them though. I have no idea if the leveling and balancing is the same, but I think they're handled well now. You can't get most of the best, game breaking ones until you're level 67 and by then you need them.

My current Holy Fire auradin has had the worst drop luck I've ever had in any loot game though. It's intensely bad. I've had to gamble for everything he's wearing, aside from the Runeword sword. Nothing good ever drops.

I know all about that. Free time is almost nonexistent now. Naughty Dog did both Uncharted and The Last of Us, so they are very similar games. TLOU is absolutely worth checking out.

I'm embarrassed how much I've played that game and how much I know about it.

I have something like 15k forum gold on d2jsp.... still searching for that elusive JMOD (not buying one).

As far as drop tables go (players 7) will yield better returns than anything else you can do in the game. Magic find of about ~250 is probably the sweet spot in any character unless you're rune farming.

Every single magic find item that has dropped is completely useless in all other ways lol. For most of this run, the paladin wore gear out of my stash that my necro had found in a prior play.

I'm also thinking I may respec to go Holy Freeze. Less damage, but it still freezes stuff that's immune to cold and that's highly survivable. And, shattering things is cool....until I need to use the Redemption aura and I've broken all the corpses lol
