That practice needs to be illegal
Yeah was really annoying. It was I think a game (Elden Ring), a second controller, a $75 gift card and I think a controller charger or some other thing like that.

If it was like you have to buy any PS5 game (or even a choice of some) and a controller, I would have done it. But I have no interest in Elden Ring and no interest in a $75 gift card. The gift card really is what makes it a scam.

Don’t think I had a game/storyline catch me more than the eventual fall of Arthur Morgan.

Really hope we see a RD3 after the next GTA.

Neither have any sort of competition to make them innovate...2k is the same way with basketball as is The Show

Has anyone ever thought how much better life would be with a great NFL and NHL videogame?

Madden is absolute dogshit and NHL hasn't gotten better in 7 years.
License exclusivity means lack of competition means they don’t have to give a f***.

If people didn’t buy it they would have to innovate and try or give up the license. People buy it anyways. A lot of people should know better and not buy it. A lot of people don’t give a f*** and buy it anyways.

People just suck and don’t give a f*** all around is what it comes down to.

I need some help from the board experts.

Is there any significant difference between the Xbox Series X and PS5 in terms of the experience?

I'm noticing the Xbox being available in several locations now, while the PS5 still is not. I've owned a PS2 and PS3, really enjoyed both. Skipped the PS4 - young child, new job, no time for games. I've had gaming PCs, and older consoles but never an xbox.

I have more time lately, and I've gotten back into things. I use Steam mainly, and the occasional console title through Stadia/GeForce Now.

I would like to get a next-gen console to open up some options, especially for some co-op / multiplayer gaming and AAA single player games.

Also important to me is the online store / streaming / subscription service. What are the main differences between the two ecosystems? What are the limitations? I prefer streaming / digital over owning any physical media. The PS5 digital edition is $100 cheaper than the Xbox series X, it seems.

tl;dr - are Xbox and PS5 just the same with different overlords? Or are there significant reasons to select one over the other?

Pretty much your last part. That being said it depends on
A) Exclusives
B) If you have a gaming computer

Most (not all) xbox exclusives are also on PC. So like for me I have a PS5 for the playstations exclusives and have a gaming computer that covers most microsoft exclusives. For instance gamepass on PC has 99% of the same games as the xbox version has. Gamepass is one of the best values out there for stuff like that, so if you don't have it yet I would take a look at it.

From a coop perspective there isnt much of a difference. I don't stream on my PlayStation so can't comment. If you are a COD guy, there are rumors they might be microsoft exclusive so might want to take a look into that (again if you PC game that won't be an issue though)

Playstation typically has more exclusive games on it than Xbox. And as @sa cyred mentioned a lot of Xboxs exclusives are also on pc. Aside from that they are not significantly different. Since you mention aaa single player games I think ps5 is the way to go if you can get one. As they have the better library of games and most of the coop multiplayer games are released on both systems like cod, and sports titles

Good point - I hadn't realized that, though now that you mention it, I do see a lot of crossover.

I don't do much PC gaming these days - I have a Mac as I do a lot of media production, and am limited to games with Mac versions.

Not sure if Gamepass works on Mac - I know Stadia and GeForce Now do, but I seem to remember looking into Gamepass and it was not so obvious on a Mac?

Makes sense. I think a few of the AAA single player games I'd pick up would be God of War, Horizon FW, maybe Elden Ring. The co-op / multiplayer stuff we tend to play is Borderlands, Tiny Tina's (haven't played yet), Far Cry 6 (which was stupid fun), NHL, COD (though I haven't played in years), and then a bunch of real-time/turn-based stuff like Divinity 2, Wasteland 3, Diablo, Grim Dawn, likely Starfield (though will that be a MS exclusive?).

Correct me if I am wrong, but couldn’t you put in a virtual partition and run (a form of) windows to allow you to play PC on a Mac

Yes, you can do it virtually with things like Parallels and other VM software, and I think you can set up a dual boot as well.

I honestly haven't looked into it too much but maybe I should. I have a fair bit of experience with VMs and dual boots on my Linux boxes, so maybe it's an option. Though from the little I know about Parallels, I think it's fine for older titles and more recent indie or AA titles, but I think it would struggle with AAA (at least in a VM).

Still can't find one without having to buy a bundle - or I can't at least.

NHL 6v6 leagues all seem to be moving to PS5 next year, which is leaving me annoyed.
I haven’t followed it as much as in the past but Amazon has a “request list” and PS Direct has done a couple drops recently.

Best Buy and Target always sold bundle free. It was really just GameStop and some other smaller places that did only bundles.
