Speaking of people using odd input devices, whenever I'm playing CS and someone says "sorry I'm using a trackpad right now" I get as mad as Jim Jackson when someone passes the puck to a wide open teammate instead of taking a bad angle shot, against a ready goalie, with three players in front of them.

@JojoTheWhale can confirm that I was using a trackpad the first several months I was playing Path of Exile. It was ... not easy. Especially when you pick up thousands and thousands of scrolls.

Those button numbers are killing me.
1 4 9 12
2 5 8 11
3 4 7 10

Why does it flip the order halfway through!!!

Didn't even notice it in the picture. That's not how it's actually set up though.

i can see how that vertical mouse might be nifty once one gets used to it

anyway..Steam Deck..anyone get one..interested?

I've been tempted to reserve one but I'm mostly a c/aRPG player, and I've read that - especially for games not optimized for the Deck - text is ridiculously small and hard to read. And those games are text-heavy.

Would love to get one, though.

Is a Switch better (not technically, but because of mass market adoption)? I think most of the stuff I would play on the Deck is available for Switch.

Hooked up my bro in laws old Wii for the kids to play. Opened up Mario Kart and the box was empty. Complete shambles

Between that and having to buy an av input adapter for my tv this has set me back further than anticipated. It would be worth it if the kids were able to drive straight but they just bounce back and forth off the walls lol

New Legion 7s are being officially announced this Friday. Time to pray to RNGesus that I can finally get that new gaming laptop I've been pining for.

...go on... you have my attention
*cracks knuckles*

Here's a quick hands on with the stuff. I'm waiting for my boy Jarrod's Tech to upload his review. They should be officially announced Friday at some conference in Singapore that Lenovo is attending.

I wished i kept up on this stuff as much as i should. I also wish i could commit to either doing a really nice desktop anbd keeping my current laptop for when i travel, or to just buy a new laptop and call it a day.

You know it's hard out here for a Starat
When he tryin to use his money for a new computer
For the wife and the baby, all the money he spent
Because a whole of dad duties be talking
Will have a whole lot of dad duties to be doing

Yeah it's difficult to keep up with all the new stuff coming out. Idk if I'm gonna fully commit because I'm kind of curious with the next gen of Nvidia GPUs. Idk how hardcore PC people keep up. My brain starts to hurt after going down the rabbit hole.

I didnt really answer this fully, but this is where im at, as well. Like, im sure a 3080 will hold up for quite some time (my 1070 still holds its own like 5 years later). But i also dont want to commit now if the 5090 is coming out and is going to A) kill the performance of the 3080 and b) drive down prices ofd the 3080 considerably.

Help us Jojo, you're our only hope.

Keeping up is easier than frantically doing research once every month or two when someone asks me.

I don't know a blessed thing about laptops anymore, though. I bought my current personal one in 2016. In general, if you need a laptop because you need (not want) the portability, go for it. If you don't, and you're buying it for gaming, do not buy a laptop. They don't last as long and they give you worse performance per dollar than desktops.

If it's a space at home concern, build a small form factor PC instead.

Prices on 3000 series cards have dropped significantly. There's nothing wrong with waiting and there's nothing wrong with buying. It's basically preference right now.

re:bolded -- That's fair. lol.

I think i can solve the portability issue by just taking my current laptop on the road when i go. It makes do.. Space isnt much of a concern, I just struggle to quantify how much I lose in terms of spending say 1200 on a laptop vs a desktop.

I was one of the lucky ones that grabbed a Legion 5 Pro 3070 last year.

Seriously the thermals on this thing is amazing. Highly recommend Lenovo's thermals. Also a 16" screen is literally the perfect in between.
