OT: Video Game Thread Part VII

I got this Elden Ring game never having played a Dark Souls or related game before. I just got teleported to some mining place and got stuck and died like 15 times. Then I looked online on how to get out and there's this stupid blood dog thing I'm supposed to kill to get to this gate thing to get out.

Am I supposed to suck this bad? Is this what I get for "going off the beaten path" ?

If you got teleported to the same place I did after opening that chest you should be able to teleport back to the starting area, just gotta be outside the cave you were sent to. It seems like this game rewards you as much as it punishes you for wandering.

I got frustrated after about 45 minutes of that so I just turned the Sixers on.

I’m not a fan of the genre, it’s incredibly difficult and unforgiving. You basically have to die a bunch of times while learning how to beat each section.

I've been debating picking this game up. I haven't played a souls game since the original. I don't mind the dying considering I now have 450 deaths and 2 wins in Noita. (This is another shameless plug for Noita).

Meanwhile, I can't play more than a few hours of the movie games. Everyone raved about The Last of Us, Uncharted, etc and I just can't get into them at all.

Anybody playing Guild Wars 2? I put many hours into it when it first launched and forgot about it for 9 years. A friend dragged me back in recently. I don't know how much I will stick with it long term but its fun to pick up again. And a new expansion just launched.

I'm finally wrapping up Borderlands 3. Made it all the way through, capped at level 72, played all the DLC except for one which my friend and I are starting tonight. Mayhem level 6 right now.

I played as Moze, so with Iron Bear I can basically melt right through bosses. My build feels a bit OP to be honest.

Can't wait for Wonderlands.

years back and very..sparsely ...parts I liked..overall though it still was an MMO and I think my days of playing them are over...While I do play STO still..its only to get free ships

I have almost no time for video games at all, but GW is very accessible as far as MMO's go. I could never do WoW again, but logging in a few hours a week and working through some content casually is very doable in GW unless you have that addictive personality.

I loved the first one but couldn’t get hooked on the second. I don’t remember why.

I put in about 200 hours into GW2 as an Engineer. Got most of the end gear stuff by then for Engineers. Wasn't a bad game, but I got burned out around then.

Started d2 the other day. Necro, skeleton army type class. Made it to act 2 at level 15.
I know most builds are used for replays but what should I do while leveling? 1 in clay golem, 1 in mage, max skeleton and skeleton mastery?

Alright I need help with Duriel, if I have his name right. Act 2 end boss. I died in his den, I don’t have bone prison. Is it doable to beat him without it? I’m only level 22, bone prison needs level 24 to get. If I save and exit I lose the xp from death but get my gear back.

Duriel is tricky, you need things that slow and do percent damage. Use an ice mage or merc with a sapphire weapon. Combo that with clay golem for extra slow. Use amp damage curse or if you level all the way to 24 to kill him then use decrepify, Corpse explosion is important for leveling but there are none fighting Duriel.

I meant skeleton mages. If you don't have a source of ice damage just keep summoning one until you get an ice. Keep an eye out for any item with charges of static field. Buy thawing potions from the shop so you don't get stuck being icy. You can give them to your merc too.

Finally beat that fat f*** on my second go around. Took forever. Decrepify, then all skeletons died. Raise golem, kite, decrepify, raise golem, kite, drink mana pot, repeat ad nausium

Level multiple characters. Sorc is best at magic find because she can teleport to bosses and kill them quickly. Stack magic find gear on her and repeat boss kills. Save runes. In act 1, the countess has a guaranteed drop of lots of runes. You can make some great starter equipment with only normal/nightmare countess drops. Your mercenary is very important. Most people use the act 2 merc because it has an aura (boosting all your skeletons). Ethereal items can't be repaired but are stronger than normal items. Use ethereal items on your merc because his items never take damage. You can give your merc a weapon with a second aura on it so you get two boosts for your skeletons. Crushing blow on a merc weapon is important too, it does % based damage so you drop bosses quickly. If you find an amulet with teleport charges all your skeletons will teleport right on top of you and attack instantly. Corpse explosion will be your main source of damage so use your merc to drop an enemy quickly, then it starts a chain reaction of corpse explosion. Most of your stat points should be vitality, the necro only needs enough str/dex to equip gear. Amp damage is more useful than decrepify on most fights, but the slow from decrep is important on fast enemies or bosses. You can stack potions on yourself and your merc. If there is an area with strong poison, drink 5-6 antidote potions and the time stacks, give some to your merc too. Same is true of thawing potion. Put a point in summon resist, resistances are critical in higher difficulties.

icyveins.com has a bunch of builds for all the classes of D2 + guids/tips. Also, apparently on Duriel if you drink like 20 thawing potions before you fight him you won't get frozen or will at least have a really high cold res. They stack for 30 seconds per potion, so if you drink like 10 you get 5 minutes of resistance

f*** Elden Ring. It's fun and challenging, but I have limited time per week to play video games and dying over and over again just isn't doing it for me. I'm stuck on the first castle you go to after beating the first boss (name is escaping me right now) and just rage quit after trying to get past the same area for 30 minutes after spending an hour or so this weekend.

Granted, I'll probably play it again in a couple of days.
