OT: Video Game Talk (oh, also the Week before the All-Star Break Pre-Game Talk "archive")

This would be the perfect week for that Oblivion remaster/remake to drop but you just know it's next week with the playoffs starting.

.... GTA6 is going to be $100 isn't it?

Everything about the Switch 2 looked so good until you saw its prices
Nintendo is the Porsche of the gaming industry. Always does things extremely well and in left field, but always overprices its products.

It was funny, though when the Nintendo CEO came out and pretty much said that poor people won't be able to buy the S2. I don't mind spending more than the Steam Deck for a console, but the game price hikes is pretty ridonkulous.

Oh yeah that's the stuff
Next week

I wonder how mod friendly this will be? I was excited about Skyblivion, and now there's also this. Looks like I'll be spending a lot of time in Cyrodiil this year.
It's running on two engines with gamebryo + Unreal so who knows. I assume they would want to monetize mods so if it's possible they'll do it.

My buddy got me to play Oblivion the summer before Skyrim came out. I know I loved it but I barely remember anything about it.

For me:
Morrowind has the best world building and writing
Oblivion has the best quests
Skyrim has the best dungeons

I prefer both Skyrim and Morrowind's setting to Cyrodiil but it's good too will be nice to revisit.

Finished Veilguard. The game was good enough to incentivise completing all of the sidequests and the payoff at the end made it all worth the time and effort. f*** all the haters. Solid 8/10 and the best free game we've gotten from PS+ freebies, bar none

Were you a fan of Inquisition? What's your "out of 10" rating for Inquisition?

Asking because I could still be convinced to play Veilguard at some point.

Finished AI Limit. Not bad for a souls like that's only $34.99. The story is mediocre, but not too bad. Especially for a souls like. The hit boxes are tight and beating the bosses gives you that satisfaction high after multiple attempts. There's also rest points before most bosses, which I especially appreciate. One things I hate about souls likes is treking back through the level only for 1 mistake vs the boss has you back on the walk of shame. I played with a dual blades build, but if you want to make the game easy mode, just level up your Spirit and blast everything that comes your way. Solid 8/10 for me.

I platniumed Horizon: FW. Now I am playing FFVII: Rebirth, and absolutely loving every second of it except for two or three things. Jumping is wack in this game, but that is super minor. What's more grinding my gears is fighting flying enemies, and there are a lot of mini-games in this game.

The soundtrack, omfg it is so damn good. I cannot express how every single song in this game is A+ level quality. I already Shazamed about 14 songs lol, my favourite has to be Kyrie's theme.

That piano mini game is the devil. I tried for so long to A rank those songs. I remember one of my gripes when I played was getting caught on the terrain randomly when riding the chocobos.

My biggest gripe is super spoiler heavy, and seeing that your not far in, I'll hold my tongue.

Honestly, I'm the last person you'd want to ask for their opinion of Inquisition. My only memories of the game stem from multiplayer and even that's fuzzy. So that certainly could be why I enjoyed Veilguard more than most, without having love for the previous game clouding my judgment. Seems to be a fairly common sentiment that Veilguard "ruined" Inquision or the series in general.

But Queen's Blood! That was an S-tier minigame.

I got to the top of Junon if you want to know exactly where I am. Just finished everything that was in the region. The piano mini game is tough - took me about 11-13 times to get the first song A-tier - but it seemed fair to me. It might be unjust since I have been a musician my entire life, so when I got an understanding of the beat, I sort of "felt" the song of how it was supposed to be played, if that makes sense. I found it easier to play the song faster, even if the game said it was more challenging. I don't recall exactly, but I found the speed at 2x or 3x just perfect because the notes came as a song is supposed to be played. The default speed was way too slow, which made me keep pre-hitting the notes.

Oh yeah, I love Queen's Blood. I think my only complaint is always going first; it actually is a significant bad handicap if you'd ask me. I'd rather have who goes first be completely random. Definitely has a learning curve, but you always get better when you realise that most of the game revolves around gaining map control.

The game that makes me infuriated is Fort Condor. I just finished the protorelic for the Junon region, and it felt like I had to restart the final battle against the Shinra Captain around twenty times. Not because it was super difficult, but because the game pretty much cheats by allowing him to spawn so many heroes, and I kept running out of time after having to defeat all of them. Just comes across as insanely annoying.

Being a musician probably would help. I on the other hand even struggled playing hot cross buns on a recorder.

I remember not doing any of the Fort Condor stuff until late game. Then when I was forced to play it back to back to back, I picked up the strategy it wanted and was able to beat all of them on the hardest setting pretty easily. I stuck with Cloud and Barrett as my heros for every match and made sure to always set up some trebuchets in my own end with healers that stay put.

Ah okay, so you played defence? I think I will borrow those tactics. I finally won when I reduced the difficulty level, like there is no reason to spend 30+ minutes on a single mini game.

I found It's better to play defense on one lane and attack the other. I don't remember if you need to beat the harder levels for the "secret boss" which is basically the end of the proto relics story line. I think as long as Chadley has it marked as done, you're good.

If you are into games where you get to explore, solve puzzles and generally feel clever I can highly recommend Blue Prince. It's the best feeling clever game since Return of the Obra Dinn or Outer Wilds.

Very good game for when you just wanna play something chill and kill some time. Addicting loop that scratches that “I’ll just do one more run” itch.
