Lots of good deals on the PlayStation store right now, so I finally pulled the trigger on Stellar Blade. I remember being impressed (but not blown away) by the demo, but the full game has been a blast so far. Great visuals, even better music and the combat gets to be really satisfying after you start to match the proper timing of combos, parries and dodges. There's also a pretty good variety in terms of playstyles and "builds" as far as pure action games go. Imagine Bayonetta with exploration and open-world elements and you've pretty much got Stellar Blade.

The platforming sections leave a lot to be desired, which seems to be the inevitable curse of many third-person action games for whatever reason, but it's not enough to deter me from exploring. The unapologetic amount of titties and ass don't hurt, either.

I also really appreciated the respawn points for boss fights and certain missions. Not having to trek all the way back from the last "bonfire" was a nice quality of life touch.

I was this many days old when I realized that Karen Carpenter was one of the first hard rock drummers....

Well, they finally got announced. 2 grand is an insane price.

Really wish the 5070 would come with 16gb, would be a slam dunk. Waiting for the 5070 Ti to drop in price then. My 3070 is still running solid.

Finally just finished legend of zelda tears of the kingdom.. Man what a game that was.

Started on star wars outlaws for ps5... It's ok so far.. Nothing wild

Twice as powerful as the 4090. I wonder what power supply it will need like at least 1000W or 1200W probably. The price is high but it should be good for at least the next 4-5 years.
My issue is that it's all AI power. If you turn off the upscaling features, it'll only run Alan Wake 2 at 50fps. It just feels like since the 1080, graphics cards have been stagnant.

2024 wasn’t all that great for me. Indiana Jones was my Goty not much competition. 2025 however…

Doom
Avowed
Fable
TES IV remaster (mod or official version)
MGS 3 Delta

I’d say GTA VI but we all know it’s getting delayed and R* might do their usual late PC port BS.

Whatever Nintendo cooks with Switch 2 but I’m not expecting a BotW/Odyssey type combo this go round.

Only got into Cyberpunk 2077 a few months ago, and apparently it's good that I experience the game now when it's pretty much fixed, the DLC is out and there's a good bunch of mods out there as well. Haven't enjoyed a particular video game this much since the first Mass Effect was released.

Hoping that modders can eventually add some more story related content as well, seeing that the developers are apparently starting to move on.

Veilguard sold so badly that Bioware is shutting down Bioware Edmonton and the lead director of Veilguard "left" Bioware. It's sad to see these once great studios turn out absolute shit, destroy established franchises and shut down. These studios have hundreds of millions of dollars to work with. Surely they can do some surveys to see what gamers actually want.... Right?

I feel it's extremely hard to make a profitable AAA game these days (or at least one that performs to expectations). Back when I was a kid, games were sold on gray or black cartridges for $60 and were made by a team of 20-40 people over 8-16 months. Nowadays, games still sell for $60, when they should be going for $200-250 if we consider the relative value of a dollar, and there are teams of 400-800 people working on them for 5-7 years. It's hard to see how the economics make sense.

I have fond memories of a certain era of BioWare games, but the people who made those are long gone, and it's been 13 years since the studio last made a game I've genuinely enjoyed.

Been playing a game on pc called stoneshard and having a really good time so far, granted I’m only about 4 or 5 hours in. If anyone is looking for more of an old school rpg type game I’d recommend looking into it. Pretty difficult enemies and limited saving points make dying an actual loss as you restart exactly as you last saved.

Insane the amount of damage Jim Ryan was able to do to the PlayStayion brand before riding off into the sunset. Man, f*** that guy

Honestly, I'm not sure if there is a studio, developer or platform that is actually all that great these days. I mean, even PC gaming is getting ridiculous with the cost of GPUs and the fact that they are trying to replace actual FPS with AI generatead frames to artificially make think you are getting high FPS, until the battle starts and you can feel the absolutely massive amount of lag these artificial frames introduce into the game controls and fluidity. I've never attempted to game at 4K but have friends with rigs setup for it. I honestly can't tell the difference between 2K and 4K for video games. Certainly for live TV and movies I see an incredible difference...but for video games? I'm sorry. The lack of visual difference between 4K and 2K is even less than it was between 2K and FHD, IMO.

I'm not a gamer, but the whole economic system when it comes to games is just so f***ed up right now. Studios can't afford to pay their developers even when their games are big hits, and if they're NOT big hits, they just shut down in droves. And this is coupled with the fact that consoles just don't have the same sway as they did, like, 20 years ago.

Most fun I had gaming last year came from parties where we played with an Atari Flashback and a Nintendo Classic Mini. In this day and age of mega-AAA titles that cost $70, have purchasable DLC on day one, and don't actually work until about six months after release, there is something about playing low-graphic games that aren't made to last more than 5 minutes or so. Get a group together and let the shit-talking begin!! Combat! and Excitebike are my two current favorites.

As for the bolded... I think you nailed it here. I was a product of the era when video games were born. They developed, matured and grew right as I was doing the same. Games will always be a part of my life. However, there is just so much competition today for kids. Between tik-tok, social media, school, helicopter parents planning every moment, the explosion of cellphones and held-held devices that offer connectivity, the need desire for a centralized gaming specific console for a pre-teen is probably much less than it was.
