So I just finished up the Lies of P demo, clocking in at just over 4 hours. I went in expecting another indie Soulsborne clone and came away with what is without a doubt one of my most anticipated games of the year. It wears its Bloodborne inspiration on its sleeve, but somehow still manages to create a world and atmosphere that feels wholly unique. The combat is responsive, polished and feels like a beautiful blend of Bloodborne and Sekiro. If the full game can maintain the level of quality in the demo I have little doubt it'll be considered not just the best Soulsborne-like on the market, but also the closest thing we may ever get to Bloodborne 2.

I need to try this. Need to scratch that Elden Ring itch. Wo Long didn’t cut it.

The Lies of P devs said that they're going to improve the hit animations, the dodge and lock on mechanics before the full game launches. With their main focus being on fixing the dodge. They got a lot of feedback from demo players about inconsistent i-frames when using dodge.

I honestly thought the lack of i-frames was intentional to emphasize the parry/groggy mechanic and that it worked remarkably well (much like Sekiro). Kind of a shame that they're caving to that.

I'm playing my first Soulslike. Fallen Order. It's not going well.

I enjoyed that one for the most part, but there is some terrible world design. I ended up getting stuck on one map for like 3 hours because I got somewhere on accident that wasn't supposed to be unlocked yet and I couldn't backtrack. Almost rage quit.

FF16 is about as epic as a game gets, some wild shit straight from the beginning. Fantastic stuff, awful fps when exploring though.

I don't think they're adding i-frames, just fixing the inconsistencies that have been reported. I'm one of those players that plays souls like game by spamming the dodge button until I can figure out boss patterns. So I'm fine with more consistency. But I will add that I played the demo and had no problem with the dodge. I thought it worked fine.

Navigation is a problem. I've only done a brief bit of exploratory backtracking but when I look at the map I can feel bits of my brain being used that I didn't know existed.

It is what moves units... and that's why we will continue this path.

It'll happen or the 60 fps modes will get really gimped... like 1080/900p sort of gimped. We are still in the early days of exclusively ninth generation games and still coming out of the covid impact on the industry. As we progress into 2024, this is going to be pretty common. By 2025, it'll be the standard for larger or more cinematic games.
Keeps being relevant... this generation of consoles are just not powerful enough to keep up with 60fps at any decent resolution.

They should just stop pushing top end graphics and focus on hitting a locked 60 fps. The games look already good enough this generation, it's going to result in worse experiences if they have to cut the framerate in half.

That sadly won't happen as the graphics addicts need to be pleased.

Not gonna happen… we are quickly moving back to 30fps as the main focus as cross generation support stops.

Having to settle for 30fps isn't something that'll ever bother me
I definitely don’t prefer it in a vacuum, but it isn’t a deal breaker for me. I really want more vrr and games that are designed to bottom at 40fps. The tam in the TV market just isn’t there for that focus… and IMO that’ll be the biggest miss of this generation. The capability of there for that (or 48fps in Sony’s case).

I finally finished BotW after a few week hiatus playing mostly Hades. Easily ended up in my top 5 games ever all said. Spent like 24 hours of game time searching for all the shrines before I gave up and googled them. I was at like 102 before I gave up lol.

I took a week or so off playing switch but was bored yesterday so I jumped on the TotK train. I am glad I waited. It really is BotW but on crack. I am almost passed the point of being couch bound during my recovery, so I will probably go back to playing less video games moving forward. But, if there is any game I will find time to play once I am able to walk again it will be this one.

Chess is the GOAT

No luck and only pure skill. Never gets old no matter how many games you play.
I used to play battle chess on the PC for hours on end back in the day before we had internet in Colorado. I still remember waiting for Windows 3.1 to start up, fallowed by the "Bum Bum!" boot sound.

Haha, I just remembered this game the other day! My son is really getting into chess so I was going to fire up DosBox on his laptop and put this on there

One of the best years in gaming is about to get even better. Baldur's Gate III in a few weeks for early access owners followed by Starfield.

Man I am so excited for Starfield. I really think it's gonna be a game of games and I absolutely love the space setting for it. For those of us getting it on PC, I think we're gonna be blessed with some truly epic mod support for years to come.
