Oh 30 FPS is still around and will be around. We've seen more and more coming down the pipeline as last generation support dies off.
I won't be touching those games. 30 fps is a joke at this point.

Besides there are barely any 30fps PS5 games. Those very rare exceptions are just poorly optimized by the developer and could hit 60.

I went from Xbox one to the Series X and it's a pretty noticeable upgrade. Unfortunately the exclusives have been slow to start out but it'll be something worth investing in if you game a decent amount.
I finally did the upgrade recently, and am also pleasantly surprised. It's obviously an all around faster console, and I'm even excited to try out my old games (iirc, it auto upgraded me to the x/s version of Forza Horizon).

The games specifically made for this gen are moving that way. Cross gen are getting 60fps simply because the CPUs in the PS4/XO era sucked so bad that it is easy to turn on 60 fps. Games like A Plague Tale: Requiem and Gotham Knights that are targeting the highest graphical performance are sacrificing FPS already. This will continue. I'll be shocked if GTA 6 is 60fps out of the box. If it is, we are probably looking at a dynamic 1080/900p situation with no ray tracing. As we stand, pretty much any ray tracing implementation that does anything noticeable pushed the FPS to 30 now.

We haven't had a single big 30fps only game yet. There is no reason other that developer issues that Gotham or Plague are locked 30.

It will happen more often at some point though, but won't be nearly as common as with the PS4 as it was underpowered day 1.

The multiplats might not even get that impressive this generation as Microsoft in their infinite wisdom decided to develop a bottleneck system. The series S will be an issue real soon.

It isn't developer issues, it is they want to focus on the very best fidelity over framerate. If ray tracing is at all to be implemented at a wide scale, 30 fps is the reality. It just takes too much power to run those features and XSX and PS5 just don't have enough.

XSS is going to get a lot of 720-900p games as it ages, but scalability is built widely into games today... and consoles are a part of that, but more that the PC market is so varied and has a ton of legacy installs. This gen will get limited, but not because of XSS... it'll be Switch 2 that every developer will want to multiplat on and we are looking at scalability to the mid 1s teraflop wise. IMO the popularity of Steamdeck will have more of an impact than XSS on performance.

There are far more technically impressive games running at a locked 60 yet Gotham or Plague only hit 30. It's purely a developer issue. Hell Gotham Knights didn't run well on a mega computer at least on lauch.

Ray-tracing at 60 fps is out of the question with this generation though.

I think middle weight studios like the devs for plague tale will continue to release 30FPS games, but I don't think that'll be the case for the AAA studios. Going forward with the big ruckus around FPS and low latency, I'm sure they'll all have a 60FPS performance mode built into the settings. Of course certain areas of those games will have horrible spots where the frames will fall well below, 30FPS and we'll have to wait for those areas to get patched.

I remember when being a gamer meant girls didn't date you, or complained about it a lot at least. Now all these f***ers have twitch accounts, better cars than I do, and fans lol.

People still don't know shit about computers, but they can smash buttons and stream.
I admit that I'm pretty jealous. That streamer life does seem pretty nice. Play video games, have people donate to you on twitch, then upload the stream to youtube for even more money. If I was 10 years younger and had even an ounce of charisma I would give it a go. Except the ones that only play the same game for a decade though, fuuuuuuuuuu** that. I get bored with most games after 8 hours nowadays. No way would I have the drive to boot up Minecraft day after day, year after year. But I guess a paycheck that buys you LA mansions and super cars probably makes it a lot easier.

Right? I was playing Rainbow 6 in the 90s fighting in ladders for 1v1 rank and clan matches. Just to compete.. None of these shits care about what they have now coming from pure free thinking people trying to advance gaming.

I think it's cool that it's cool now. I'll take that, the money would of been nice though.

I Basically introduced staffing, prefire, and banking grenades into gaming. Prior to ever joining the military. It's awesome what they can do now. Destiny was pretty awesome for a minute.

I beat Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (1999) last night. Overall I'd give it a 9/10.

This was somewhat of a bucket list item for me, as I had never played this game. This is notable, as I've beaten every other mainline Resident Evil game at least once. However, it's basically impossible to find Resident Evil 3 (1999) right now, as it's not available digitally in the PS4/PS5 store.

It is available in the PS3 store, though. The issue is that the PS3 store no longer allows you to play with a Credit Card/Paypal, only with Sony Gift Cards. After unearthing my PS3 and forking over $5.99 of my hard earned money to Sony, I was good to go.

The game itself was an extremely satisfying playthrough. The thing Resident Evil 3 nails is the feelings of dread and hopelessness. You really feel like Jill is in a no-win situation while playing it, especially with the Nemesis randomly stalking you throughout. The atmosphere of the game feels like it is right out of a George Romero Dead film, with Raccoon City being a complete ghost town (aside from the dead, of course).

Resident Evil 3 only has Hard and Easy mode, and Hard mode is a challenge. I died far more than I ever have in any other Resident Evil game, but the game never frustrated me. It was difficult, but when I died I blamed it on my own screw ups rather than unfair challenge. The quick time events, which determine events later in the game, was also a good feature (sadly, I didn't get endings B or C - aka the Barry endings).

Even with the extremely dated graphics, RE3 is one of the best in the series in my opinion. I did enjoy the 2020 remake, but now having played the original, I can see why fans were let down.

I recently replayed Code Veronica and I agree completely with your assessment. The old school, RE games with tank controls still hold up very well. Even with the bad voice acting they can still deliver an atmosphere of horror that delights you throughout.

I remember as a teenager how hyped I was for RE3. RE1 to RE2 was a huge jump in quality and scope. RE3 was hyped as the same jump... when in fact it was trimmed significantly, shorter, less developed characters, and very scripted Nemesis events. It just didn't live up to the hype it was given. When I played it again way back around 2013/2014... without that hype machine reference, I rather enjoyed the game... maybe more than 2. The bullet spongeness was far lessened, the loneliness and dread was amplified, the setting is more interesting... just an enjoyable game on its own.

On a different note... Tears of the Kingdom hype machine is in full tilt. I watched a couple quick videos just to see if there was hope it would live up to BotW... sounds like it does. Now I'm going full hermit mode to wait and experience it myself.

Uncharted IV was one of the best games I have ever played. I've gotten at least four to five of the endings in Nier: Automata, but will probably drop it soon.

Always found the Uncharted series overrated. Dumb fun with an impressive presentation. Way too much handholding and scripted events, plus a lack of blood in a shooter is just bland. Put Last of Us part 2's gore system in Uncharted 4 and it becomes instantly much more enjoyable.

Naughty Dog games tend to be amazing stories and fun rides... but gameplay is rather meh. I prefer the rebooted Tomb Raiders to Uncharted as they are better games (worse story).

Too bad Tears of the Kingdom is stuck on inferior hardware. What a banger it would be if Nintendo had a console with horsepower for once.

Nintendo proves you don’t need the highest end of hardware to make amazing games. BotW was on inferior hardware when it launched, as is debatably a top 5-10 game of all time.

No doubt a great game. However, it would be a superior experience if Nintendo had better hardware. Gameplay is king always has been, but top visuals on top of that gameplay is even better

Sucks that Nintendo hasn’t released a powerhouse console since the SNES. N64's and Gamecube's technical limitations were self inflicted because they didn’t want to use regular CDs.

I guess I really don't see graphics as the end all, be all. I do still fire up 8, 16, and 32 bit consoles all the time though... so maybe it is just me. Gameplay matters the most to me. If a game is fun, it can look straight out of NES era and I can enjoy it.

Gamecube was a very powerful system at the time... they just released too late to overtake the PS2 and not more powerful then the Xbox. GCN is so much more powerful than the PS2, it is pretty hilarious on a lot of comparisons. Yet, GCN didn't stand a chance. To me, even with meh hardware, Nintendo is typically good for half of the top 20 games of any generation.
