We'll have to see what Schlemko can do, if he can come in and lock down a spot, Jerabek seems to be doing that, Benn has been much better. Once Weber is back you have him and Petry in the top 4 with Alzner that doesn't leave a lot of room. Morrow can stick as the 7th D, Davidson can go to Laval or wherever. So if Mete isn't a regular then they should send him back to the OHL imo. Of course we need to see how long Weber is out for.

Jerabek Weber
Schlemko Petry
Alzner Benn
Morrow

Could work.

The Habs defense must be really good. What other team has so much depth, they have a 4.6 million dollar 3rd pairing defenseman.

The good news is that we have the cap space to afford to have his poor contract on the bottom pair.

The bad news is that the habs are paying 24M in actually salary for a top 3 of Weber, Petry and Alzner (12M, 6M, 6M) although at least it drops to 17M next year.

The worse news is that one of those top 3 is Alzner, regardless of how much it costs.

I love this guy. He's a great prospect. Gets me wondering, between him and Sergachev, who's got the most promising future?

Love Mete, but if he does not improve his ability to shoot the puck, his ceiling will remain much lower than Sergachev. The only reason for me to send him down is for him to improve this aspect of his game.

He has elite passing skills but like you said, he needs to have a better slap shot/wrist shot to be effective on the powerplay. Jerabek has the same problem.

I agree but I think his skating, anticipation, and passing will create more offense 5-on-5 than Sergachev. He's a real threat on the backdoor, is great at keeping plays alive in the zone, great at creating turnovers in the neutral zone, and his skating and passing from the D zone starts a lot of clean, controlled exits. He should be a top 4 mainstay for the next decade at least. Not sure of his ceiling in terms of stats but I see him as a 20+ min a night guy (though we can expect some growing pains here and there).

Sending him down, as the poster before noted, won't improve his shot. That's offseason work. I don't really see him ever having a bomb but watch guys like Weber, Burns, Karlson, a lot of their most dangerous chances are simply getting wrist shots through from the point.

Glad to see Julien throw him back out there after he had a few tough shifts. He responds with 2 great plays on successive shifts that lead to goals.

I'm not against him going to the WJC but I do hope they continue to give him time in the top 6. He deserves to be there and for a D that started out slow and old this season, the addition of Mete, Schlemko, and Jerabek add a lot more mobility and puck movement.

Disagree. Sure it would be nice if he had a bomb from the point, but the most important thing is if he can get the puck to the net, which he's doing a pretty good job of so far and that will only improve as gets more experience. Guys like Karlsson and Burns make a living doing just that and I believe Mete will be in the same mold.

Sergachev is in an ideal situation for his development.

I thought he looked pretty bad to start the year, despite the points. But, Lightning fans are really impressed and I haven't followed him lately. He's a really quick learner, too.

Mete has incredible skating and a high end hockey sense, at least for a 19 yo. I find it's tough to say with that shot and his size, and the game is still too fast for him, making it also difficult to see if his offensive skills will translate since were not seeing much as he's doing his best keeping up and staying mistake free.

Team Canada is supposed to release their roster today for the winter camp, although Mete doesn't have to be on it to play for them I believe it will be interesting to see if the Habs loan him or not.

With the way Mete has been playing the last few games (especially St. Louis), they should loan him for the WJC and return him to the Knights. He's struggling.

He's struggling ? He's our only defender that gains the zone with any consistency.

Looks like Julien didn't agree with you too, cause he played 18 minutes last night.

You definitely didn’t watch the same game.

I love the guy but he had trouble getting it out of his zone yesterday particularly.

Mete will be a solid top 4 guy for several years to come but lets be honest, the season is long and he won’t be able to handle to strength and abuse through the season. Yes he is a great skater but he will wear down.

At some point, you guys are going to be right, as the saying goes "A broken clock is right twice a day".

A bad play is attributed to him being too young for the NHL or too small, or some other old BS, meanwhile guys like Alzner, Benn, Petry, Schlemko, Morrow's struggle are attributed to what exactly ?

Mete hasn't shown he doesn't belong in the NHL. In fact, he's shown he's much better than all our defenders but Weber at tilting the ice on the other side. Positive CF, positive Fenwick, wtv.

Without question, Mete is our weak spot on the backend. I have no doubt the kid will be a NHL regular, but right now, he is a mess defensively. Just can't handle the every game grind that comes with the position as he needs to get much stronger. Loan him to the World Junior team, then send him back to the OHL for the remainder of the year.

He's going to be a good 2nd pairing D man in the not so distant future.

Yeah, no one is questioning his potential. He is a great transition player and puck mover but his lack of size really affects him in the D zone as he can’t push around bigger players... Yesterday he was up against Colton Parayko and looked like a peewee player.

It's time to send Mete down IMO. Jerabek is an upgrade, and for the benefit of Mete's development, him going to London and dominating there- as well as at the WJC- is what he needs to do.

Definitely been a great experience for him though, and he certainly looks like a future top 4 Dman at the very least.
