He didn't have a great game yesterday, but I don't think that should erase everything he's done this season. Guess we'll find out in the next 24hrs if he stays or back to the CHL.

He was still lightyears better than Davidson and Benn. My goodness is Benn terrible

No arguments there. I think Mete is the 2nd best guy this season. Whether this is good or a declaration of how crap our defence is can be debated, but I think he should stay. He isn't a difference maker but he isn't hurting us.

He needs to stay up. He is not rotting on the third pair, playing 10 minutes a game. Playing on the top pair and getting PP minutes in the Big League for a bottom feeding team should be better for his development than going back in the OHL, playing on the top pair and getting PP minutes on a bottom feeding squad. Then when WJC comes, loan him to Team Canada and unleash the great Schlemko.

I thought Benn played his best game last night and he was still not very good. Just shows us how bad he was in all the other games.

Once Healthy:
Mete / Weber
Alzner / Schlemko
Davidson / Petry
Benn

Unless we really want to tank, Mete is staying with us.

I would keep him for now but I think it would be stupid to give him over 40 games and bring him closer to UFA.

After the WJC, he goes back to junior, get traded to a Memorial Cup challenger and see ya next year.

I don't think Mete will develop in juniors. He's playing very well up in the bigs and it's a perfect time for him to be given minutes in a position near where he would be in juniors. He's not playing 8 minutes as a 7th dman

Benn reminds me of Weaver when we've acquired him. We've been blinded by both players performances after they got traded to us, during a period where 1) they needed to perform with their new team and 2) the type of hockey being played late in the season is more suited to their style of play. Both came back to reality and sucked hard in the following season.

So is it official?

No. They didn't make it official. It wouldn't be wise to do that so early. He's about to play his 10th game, but there is also the 40-game mark that is important for teams. He hits 40 games, he will be able reach UFA status a year earlier.

But MB echoed what CJ said the other day. If the continues playing this way, there is no reason to send him back to London.

Agreed. He's in an ideal scenario right now. He's getting big minutes and playing with a guy he could learn a lot from.

Is he not playing well at this point? I only caught his first few games and thought he looked really good - but have seen the most recent ones.

I'd love him back in London - because the team struggled off the hop - but I'm philosophical about things...I think a player his age should be wherever he will be able to play consistently.

Demote Alzner on the third pairing with Benn, Schlemko with Petry..

I love Mete. I think he has the potential to become my favorite Montreal defenseman since Markov. I hate absolutely every other defenseman on this team not called Shea Weber, so I have one worry: what happens if, say, Weber goes down for 6, 8 weeks?

From where I stand, this is the kind of situation that could really put Mete on the hot spot. It's not even that I'm afraind Mete would stop learning if paired with a guy like Petry or Benn. It's that I'm afraid he would actually unlearn. That's how bad these guys are.

"Here you go, Victor! You're gonna play with Petry. Don't worry about the fact his balls still haven't dropped despite being 29 years old... you're gonna be fine! And if that doesn't work, we'll put you with our bearded pylon."

He's playing very well. Looks right at home playing with Weber

still makes me chuckle the team protected Benn, lol. This is what worries most about talent evaluation with this team. They all got together and figured Benn was so good, he would be snapped up if he wasn't protected. The same team that recommended Dwight King, Martinsen .. are deciding Mete's future.

Your post makes no sense. Yes they protected Benn but maybe they figured he's de taken over a 4.1m Emelin

Ya it is a concern. Weber is so freaking good at keeping his partners clean- and what I mean by that is, he gets those dangerous pucks and makes such great decisions with them... it's like has Mete even been hit this year other than that cheap shot? Put Mete with a non-Weber and he's probably getting creamed a half dozen times a game. That would take it's toll.

He's the ideal partner for sure. I really doubt Mete makes the team if Weber weren't his partner. I just don't see who else we could pair him with on this team. Maybe Alzner?
