Rangers fan coming here in peace and not to start trouble, but this sweeping generalization that the Rangers have no prospects is the same as the "Rangers don't draft well" which is not based on accurate information since the NHL came back from the 2004-05 lockout. Is it perfect? No. Have they "gone for it" the last three years? Yes. But facts are facts and they've produced a plethora of solid NHL players (Callahan, Hagelin, Dubinsky, their D, etc.) and even at worst borderline late bloomers like Paranteau, Cliche, Guenin (I know HFBoards hates him but over the last few years he has been an NHLer etc.)

Rangers are in a transitional phase trying to get younger but still a solid team. Zibanejad, Buchnevich, and now Vesey are all around the same age and will add top nine youth. They have players in their system like Robin Kovacs and his buddy Malte Stromwell who are intriguing prospects and guys like Nieves and Fogarty who can be role players.

If Ryan Graves continues to improve which he has every year, he should be a part of the Rangers D and their long coveted PP trigger man, and the two kids they drafted this year Day/Reunanen are intriguing.

Lundqvist might be getting up in age but remember Halverson joins the pros this year, and Shestyorkin (I believe he's the next starter) should be over next fall. By 2018-19 I can see Lundqvist/Shestyorkin doing something very similar to what Beezer/Richter did in the late 80s/early 90s. They also have some NCAA goalies they can let ferment for 4-5 years down the road or use as trade bait.

So all in all, they're in a pretty decent position, and one of Klein/Nash/Zuc will probaly be dealt next to continue and recoup picks/prospects.

Just glad he didn't sign in Buffalo. Good job giving away that free third rounder!

All the people hating on the kid for making a decision. Jesus ****ing Christ.

The Rangers are not even a bad team.

We'll likely never find out the reasoning. But he made it. Don't all **** on us at once...

The sweeping generalizations that the Rangers are rapidly declining and have 0 prospects/future is overplayed and wrong.

Exactly. 23 year old Harvard grad playing for the Rangers. Kid is going to be a god in NYC and probably half his friends from college are moving to the city
Uhhhhh what? Nobody in NYC will know who he is.

This kid, I hope he busts hard, we'd give a lot to have him in Buffalo with one of the best young cores in the NHL and he picks out one of the very few teams stacked with players out of their prime, his career is going to go downhill from here, he can join all the other nobodies as senior winners of the Hobey Baker who aren't any good, he should've stayed in Harvard and made something out of himself

Wait, so its possible to be declining but, also on the rise? What? :help:

haha its very hard to explain... their time to win a cup was a couple years ago... sure they will still compete and make playoffs but unfortunetly I don't see a cup for a little bit now until this deadly group of youth keeps getting playoff experience and gets a few years older

Not me.
Congrats.

You guys got a great kid. Solid citizen. He gets his shot and is as close to home as he can be without being a Bruin.

Good for him. Glad he got to go where he wanted to play. That being said, I don't think it's the best decision for his career. Pittsburgh Boston buffalo NYI all seem like better options career wise

Lol @ bruins.

Why is everyone here happy the leafs didnt get him when the consensus was that the leafs wouldn't get him? Leafs hate?

You're concerned about "Leafs hate" but in the same breathe laugh at Bruins (ostensibly their fans here). Funny how that works.

I consider myself a reasonable, fair and balanced fan and I have to say, I never even close to assumed the Bruins had this falsely perceived advantage being the local team. That stuff is fluff. Plain and simple.

To me, the Rangers are a borderline obvious choice. I'm not all that surprised.

Pumped as HELL! Haha wow. I genuinely thought he was signing with the B's. First Hayes now Vesey. Rangers somehow find ways to balance out not having 1st round picks (though I hope that the trend of trading 1sts stops soon).

He must have really low confidence in his ability. Went to a place with zero pipeline to replace him as everyone around him ages out.

Rangers are the Dallas Stars 2.0

All offense, no defense. Except we have the much better goaltending.

It feels like these highly touted NCAA players always choose a destination that at first glance don't make the most sense hockeywise. But good for the Rangers, they needed some fresh blood.

Good fit, why is everyone confused? Kid gets to play in New York...New York.

Amazing city and a historic playoff team with a spot in the top 6 for him. He stays in the States and gets to play with a childhood teammate. This team isn't done yet, not close to it.
