FKA Roo Returns...Still A Contrarian Apparently
Rangers fan coming here in peace and not to start trouble, but this sweeping generalization that the Rangers have no prospects is the same as the "Rangers don't draft well" which is not based on accurate information since the NHL came back from the 2004-05 lockout. Is it perfect? No. Have they "gone for it" the last three years? Yes. But facts are facts and they've produced a plethora of solid NHL players (Callahan, Hagelin, Dubinsky, their D, etc.) and even at worst borderline late bloomers like Paranteau, Cliche, Guenin (I know HFBoards hates him but over the last few years he has been an NHLer etc.)
Rangers are in a transitional phase trying to get younger but still a solid team. Zibanejad, Buchnevich, and now Vesey are all around the same age and will add top nine youth. They have players in their system like Robin Kovacs and his buddy Malte Stromwell who are intriguing prospects and guys like Nieves and Fogarty who can be role players.
If Ryan Graves continues to improve which he has every year, he should be a part of the Rangers D and their long coveted PP trigger man, and the two kids they drafted this year Day/Reunanen are intriguing.
Lundqvist might be getting up in age but remember Halverson joins the pros this year, and Shestyorkin (I believe he's the next starter) should be over next fall. By 2018-19 I can see Lundqvist/Shestyorkin doing something very similar to what Beezer/Richter did in the late 80s/early 90s. They also have some NCAA goalies they can let ferment for 4-5 years down the road or use as trade bait.
So all in all, they're in a pretty decent position, and one of Klein/Nash/Zuc will probaly be dealt next to continue and recoup picks/prospects.
