Good for Vesey. I was still holding out hope the Sabres had an outside chance but NYC is a tempting place for a 23 year old making a decent buck.

Call me crazy, but how does someone who has the pick of any team in the league, choose the Rangers? They are fairly mediocre and have no real plan seemingly to improve.

Lol and the Rangers window has not closed. If anything the window is opening. Only players over 30, Nash and Lundqvist. Our young players, will be better. Zib, Miller, Kreider, Hayes, skjei. Staal will have a bounce back year. If Nash stays healthy another 35+ goals. If the Sharks can make the Stanley cup finals with a very old roster, that most thought would miss the playoffs why can't the Rangers. Bunch of haters.

Nash Step Zucc
Kreider Zib Miller
Vesey Hayes Buch

By far the best top nine in the NHL. Doesn't matter how trash are defence is, this group is a contender

I counter with

Lucic Mcdavid Eberle
Pouliot RNH Puljujarvi
Maroon Draisatl Yakupov

For a Harvard guy, I don't know if moving to New York is a smart move. Plenty of distractions but good luck to him. Time will tell if it was the right decision. Congratulations to Rangers fans, glad it's over, at least.

Vesey is not a 1st round caliber prospect, and the fact that you signed them doesn't negate out that you traded them in the first place. The Pens signed Bengtsson and DiPauli this year, but that doesn't magically mean they haven't traded their last 4 1st round picks.

In what respect? I think if any team picked a 6'3" forward late in the 1st round, then he went for the full college ride and performed like Vesey has the last 2 years, that team's fans would be very happy with his progression.

How many teams are willing to give the rookie max + max bonuses to a prospect who's not 1st round calibre?

Yah I like what they did this offseason with a better defense and a healthy henrik lundqvist. They might surprise some people in a wide open eastern conference.

They have to get past Pittsburgh, Washington and Tampa. The east is far from "wide open".

Every single time there is a high profile signing like this, it never works out. The players never live up to expectations and it typically happens to the Rangers. Look at Brad Richards... Rangers fans probably think they are getting some star but will be heavily disappointed. I won't be surprised if he busts and is an AHL player or a mediocre player.

No one thinks we're getting a star. We got a good prospect for free in a salary cap age and this is despite the fact that we haven't had a 1st rounder since 2012. This is a win win situation for the Rangers. No risk, medium reward potential.

Who knows how he pans out. Stop being salty.

Is that really a contending core? Seems like the minimum expected talent any NHL team should have.

Reading this thread I don't think people are aware of how many goals this team has scored the last couple years. Great offseason.

Yeah, goal scoring is obviously not a problem for the Rangers, but adding another good forward really doesn't address their real issues. Granted, no one should ever say no to a free good prospect, but it doesn't really help out their real issues (puck moving defenseman). I don't think it's incorrect to suggest that they're not a real contender until they fix that, Vesey or no Vesey.

I just don't think Vesey has that high of a ceiling (think he maxes out as a complementary top-6 forward) and he didn't even have that amazing of a college career. I mean, Jake Guentzel was better in his rookie and sophomore season than Vesey was, but no one would call Guentzel a 1st round quality prospect.

Young + money + NYC.

He'll get Top 6 minutes I assume, which is another good thing. Only downfall is playing for AV who's dumb as rocks and could ruin him.

I don't get why he'd go to the NYR over the Hawks when the Hawks are a contender and NYR are clearly on the way down. He must really want to live New York.

It's New York. The city is one of the best places in the world, I doubt Vesey cares about winning or losing at the age of 23. He just wants a chance to play and he got to choose where he wants to go.
