"Can you guarantee me a spot in the top 6?"
"...yeah...look who's in it...how couldn't we?"

Unbeatable pitch.

Reading this thread I don't think people are aware of how many goals this team has scored the last couple years. Great offseason.

good call... I didn't realize only 6 teams had more GF last season and the year before only 2 teams did

I don't get why he'd go to the NYR over the Hawks when the Hawks are a contender and NYR are clearly on the way down. He must really want to live New York.

Clearly on the way down. Coming off a season with the 4th most points in the East.

I see your logic there.

The Rangers forward group is fairly young now, with Nash being the only one over 30. Defense is an issue, but I can see Gorton taking care of that in the coming weeks. They have enough good forwards that they can move one or two for a good dman. Nash for Shattenkirk just became a bigger possibility

I pick NY Ranger awhile ago then change it to the Devils should have stuck to my first choice.

Not surprise. Hometown pressure is a real thing. Plus as one of my professor said Boston can't compare to NY location wise.

Here's the thing, where he signed is an important aspect of this story...I guess....I think what we all want to is the order of his choosing...so out with it Vesey! Who was 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and so on!!??

Nash Step Zucc
Kreider Zib Miller
Vesey Hayes Buch

By far the best top nine in the NHL. Doesn't matter how trash are defence is, this group is a contender

I'm assuming this is sarcasm?

So, so many teams just in the East with better looking rosters and yes the blueline is pretty damm important.

It's New York. The city is one of the best places in the world, I doubt Vesey cares about winning or losing at the age of 23. He just wants a chance to play and he got to choose where he wants to go.

I wouldn't say he doesn't care about winning or loosing. He's a professional athlete, of course he wants to win. While the Rags aren't up there with the likes of the Hawks or Pens, they're still playoff contenders.

Yeah, goal scoring is obviously not a problem for the Rangers, but adding another good forward really doesn't address their real issues. Granted, no one should ever say no to a free good prospect, but it doesn't really help out their real issues (puck moving defenseman). I don't think it's incorrect to suggest that they're not a real contender until they fix that, Vesey or no Vesey.
No defense still sucks but they're gonna be fun to watch. As for the contender stuff, it's a guy's life, not EA Sports.

Rick Nash, Dan Girardi, Staal...those are some horrible contracts. I hope for the Rangers sake that Vesey is more than an average top nine player. They will need him to provide some cheap offense.

I don't get why people keep ragging on NYR and saying they are declining... sure they are, but also are on the rise. They are very uniquely building an extremely impressive group of young guys while still making playoffs and getting those young guys experience.

I love what management is doing

I don't understand his reasoning, but I'm glad this is over
You and about 97.3% of everyone else on this board.

Why Rangers? Their window has closed.
Along the lines of what I was thinking.. although I think its still cracked open, they are in a bad situation defensively/cap wise.

Will he even be as good as Kevin Hayes is the question
Even then it wouldn't be much of an accomplishment.. but thats not saying Hayes is worthless.

Jimmy chose Hayes over Eichel, lol. He went to Harvard? Enjoy your 30 points.
Not only Eichel.. but more importantly Toews, Kane, Tavares ...

Exactly. 23 year old Harvard grad playing for the Rangers. Kid is going to be a god in NYC and probably half his friends from college are moving to the city

A god in terms of what? The Rags play like 4th fiddle to the other NY teams. It's not like he's gonna be the star player on the roster either.

Nash and Staal aren't that bad. Everyone acts like their 34 and on their last legs. And those are really our only "older" skaters.

Girardi is admittedly a problem but I'm sure Gorton will find away to get rid of him. Things like that always work out in the end for us.

Plus look all the hockey this team has played since 2012. This long offseason will do good for everyone.
