He should have been used on the PP awhile ago instead of many of Maurice's vets like Nash...

Just more of a case of our coach using seniority as the basis for deployment over the skill set of the individual.
But where does he fit with a healthy line up? I think he might have more offensive potential than Copp who has come back down to earth. Yes he got points last game but they were mostly complimentary points. Won a puck battle and got it over to Dubois who then made a smart pass to Ehlers. I think Schmidt and morrissey have both looked good on pp for the most part.

Good question. I'm fine with him on the third line with Lowry and Stastny for now and have him concentrate on growing his all around game. Playing with Lowry should help his physical game mature as well. He should still get some looks with that lines ability to keep it deep for long periods of time.

On the PP that is more tricky as JoMo's shot seems to be one of the few weapons that is working this year.

I'd personally use him over copp on the PP as Copp has come back down to earth on the pp after his unsustainable run last year.

Oh he definitely should not be in top 6. Copp has been a very good complimentary forward even if doesn’t drive offence, so 5 v 5 agreement also again with pp. I also like keeping ves on 3rd as that’s his spot going forward based on mo’s love with wheeler and Perfetti leapfrogging ves in top 6 in future. Ignoring handedness.

Our coaching staff values simple face offs too much but Vesa would fit perfect where Copp usually is on the PP as he has much better hands and a much better shot.

Have to agree with you here, and I also think Vesa has some nice scoring hands, as he showed on his goal against the Devils. From what I've read he also has a real hard and accurate slapper. I'd like to see this guy get more ice time, as he could develop into a real solid player for the Jets. I'd like to see more of Vesa.

You can tell there is an agenda being put forth about Vesalainen.

Sawyer pumped his tires twice today on the broadcast.

Yes, he had 5 hits but did you see that muffin he put up when Scheif gave him that nice pass in the slot?

He chases the puck ALL GAME LONG.

His career stat line is now 64GP 2 G 3A 5Pts 46 SOG

This is literally historically bad.

Check out the screenshot below that I took off of NHL.com.

It's a listing of every forward in NHL HISTORY that played 64 games in their NHL career (the same number KV has played to date).

Before people come at me with "he hasn't been given enough minutes", his average TOI per game is 8:59. For reference sake Toninato's average TOI per game is 8:21.

I asked the question in December on this thread - but what redeeming qualities does he have?

Like, how could we POSSIBLY be a good team, when this stiff is on our roster?

ONLY the Jets would have a guy like this on the roster AND then tell their broadcast to push the "he's playing well" agenda.

It's embarrassing that we have to watch this guy night after night.

No drive in his game - none
All you can hope is that there is a coach out there somewhere that can get this guy motivated

I have to admit hat I, too, don’t see what the Jets see in him. The most glaring deficiency, that I can see, is his poor skating. He looks like a bobble head out there. He has very poor mechanics. However, I’m told that he has a great shot.

When we had Trevor Lewis and Nate Thompson on the 4th line. I was arguing we should give the young players a chance instead The way Ves is playing makes me want the old whily old vet strategy again

Yes, Trevor Lewis’s 4 extra assists in over 120 more minutes of ice would surely have us in a playoff position.

Ves hasn’t been good by any means , but suggesting a 4th line forward playing under 9 minutes a night, in a largely checking role is a major reason we aren’t good is a lot of hyperbole.

It's a sad state of affairs when your production is<=to the likes of former Jets all-stars like Thompson, Lewis, Bourque and Logan Shaw.

This, exactly.

I've liked Ves's game for a while but to me he looks like a player who is really struggling this year, often behind the play and rarely using his best assets -- speed, shot, very good hands in tight -- to make a difference in the games he's played. He's working heard, his underlying numbers range from okay to very good, and he has games where he seems to be finally getting it, and games where he's nearly invisible.

That said, he's still young, and plenty of good/ useful Jets 2.0 players were less than game-changing at that age. Armia, Tanev, Appleton, Copp, etc. I do think he needs to go back to the A and gain some confidence and then have a helluva offseason, but don't think it makes sense to give up on him now. Look at Logan Stanley.

Also, I would really like to see him paired with Gus once he gets back up. They have a chemistry that is reminiscent of PLD/ Svetch (at a lover level, of course) and seem to bring out the best in each other.

He's played with both at times this year, although obviously sparingly amount of minutes

If you have him in the top 6, then you're demoting one of Wheeler, Stastny, Connor, or Svech/Perfetti/Ehlers.

Hes not better than anyone of those players.

Jets will be out of the playoff race soon enough and there will be time to audition these guys.

The thing is I think most ppl have given up on Stanley and just want him in the beaulieu spot while bringing Heinola up.

And how is our top-6 winning us anything big or consistently as is? Experimental head coach trial with the same/similar mediocre to deteriating cast around. Why not experimental top-line youth for the he_ _ of it?
This season has shown nanagement's ineptness at "fixes".

No, he isn't, and maybe he'll turn out to be an absolutely wasted pick and suck, and will wash out of the NHL in a few years' time.

But I think that the difference between fans (not calling you out here) shouting "Bust!" and an org agreeing, when it's a 1st-round pick is pretty marked, as the treatment of Stanley shows. So then the question is, "What do we do with this player who still has a necessary skillset and upside but hasn't made his mark this season?"

Maybe, like Svetch, he can be a third piece on a line that's otherwise above his pay grade, and tunes his game to become a solid puck-pursuit player who can unleash a beast of a shot, as he did last night, and starts to develop into that role and become something of value to the Jets. Or maybe the next coach starts to build a 4-line team with a more equitable ToI distribution, attacking in waves (perhaps not very big or awe-inspiring waves at first) and getting closer to how the best teams deploy.

Before any of that, though, I really think with @Jet that he needs to go down to the A and get some confidence and some time and space to do it in, without the fear of failure that seems to be reserved on this team exclusively for young players.

I knew he was bad but those stats prove he should not be in the NHL. I thought he showed some promise last year during the playoffs but like many of the players he has regressed this season and he has certainly not done anything to warrant being 'auditioned' in the top 6 at this point. Maybe some more seasoning in the AHL will do him some good or just cut the losses and move on.
