Your commentary and viewpoints are part of the problem. All you talk about is "analytics"....perhaps that's what you do....but that's not the point nor my business. My opinion (and it's just mine) is that analytics are over used ad nauseum. They do not (in their entirety) reveal the true make up of a player....let alone a team. Now, I'll admit there is some use for them BUT.....a keen and experienced at winning hockey coach & GM (without the aid of stats) will win out 10/10 times. Look at all the analytics driven trades Dubas has made & I rest my case. I just read about how bad the Marchment trade for Malgin was.....case in point. We need experienced mgmt to go anywhere. I hope you at least agree on that!

Two of those guys have a Vegas jersey, the rest are silhouettes or they are wearing their old teams jersey.... nothing screams bush league like a website that does not have attention to detail..

I think the bigger crime is not putting Spezza on the top one. You could also argue that Sandin should be swapped with Rielly.

My take:

Tavares
Matthews - Nylander - Spezza
Rielly

Ritchie
Engvall - Bunting - Marner
Sandin

Spezza is a big shooting threat and he's a fantastic puck handler. You can put him in the bumper spot too. I think Rielly has been far too hesitant in shooting or using lanes properly on the PP1. He's relying on distributing to Matthews or Marner far too often but without Marner, I think Rielly can dish to Spezza who can actually be a scoring one-timer threat instead of passing it to Marner where everyone knows what he's going to do (curl, carry, wrister blocked -- out)

Marner has struggled immensely on the PP but maybe giving him less minutes on it and a different set of players to play with might kind of jar something loose. Let him be the primary forward on it. It would be similar to when Nylander was on the 2nd PP to let him handle that unit and it kinda worked.

Could swap Sandin and Rielly but I'd rather give Sandin the horns of the PP2 with Marner since it would miss a bit of a shooting threat.

I think the problem is they don't have anyone screening the goal tender and causing trouble for the defensmen JT is there but of to the side.
We were really good last yr when we were moving around alot .

The second unit moves around.

Thanks for the reply. Speed is an issue, rose colored glass my friend. Watch him close. He us out of shape. He is 10.5m out of shape. I fact he is 1m out of shape and if he was paid 1m he would be gone.

Where has the eye test got us? We haven't won since 67' using it. It must not be working.

You use every available tool at your disposal, to try and build the best team, and evaluate. I don't know how you could have taken Stats, and at the same time be completely dismissive of the same. The talk is as if, one persons stats are the only way possible, that someone else isn't better at understanding them, or that it's understanding and use doesn't grow over time. To be so dismissive of "stats" is just so incredibly short sighted that it's ridiculous.

I am not entirely dismissive of stats. But, if we review some of Dubas' analytical driven trades (most recent being Malgin/Marchment) don't look good either. I agree, it's a tough one.

I think we take them tonight. I'll be keeping a close eye on the d pairings tonight. Vegas likes to put heavy pressure on the forecheck so we'll need quick decisions and successful ones along with forward support or we'll face some serious time in our zone.
 
I don't want to jinx them, but I think the Leafs have turned the corner.

Rielly signed long-term. Marner had his teeth knocked out. I don't know why such things should matter, but to they look like they're now ready to play.

Now look for Ritchie to get the massage and wake up too.
