That playoff flop is going to taste so bitter to the Oilers. They had it ALL there for the taking this year. Laid out so well. And nope. All the way BACK to square 1 with everyone else. Cap issues coming. McDrai window closing. Bitter and long offseason indeed.
Should have made the move for Varlamov at the deadline, even as a rental

Hockey is a team game and not decided on the PP.
I’m convinced it’s the hardest sport to go all the way. 1 or 2 guys can carry an NBA team. NFL the best qbs usually end up in the conference finals/Super Bowl each year.

Baseball I don’t have much knowledge on so I can speak for it.

Can McDavid win an actual f***ing cup before we anoint him better than the greats of all time? Is that too much to ask? Dude has completely failed as a captain so far.
He needs to sit down management and tell them to get a goalie and another top-3 D.

Especially proud of Eichel this series. There was merit to the people who felt he lacked heart and drive for a while. He was the only guy who kept fighting when the rest of the team seemed checked out in our losses. His compete level has been on such a higher level. Really proud and happy to see it. For the first time I can say I'm actually proud of him and not just hopeful for what he can be.

What a terrible corner that Woodcroft has put them in with his goaltending decisions. I know I said it in the GDT, but I will expand on it here. How in the hell does Campbell continue with this team? Woodcroft CLEARLY showed Skinner is his #1 going forward. I get that Campbell was pretty bad most of the year, but he was much better down the stretch. He also had a SV% of over .950 and a GAA just over 1 when he did get to play in the playoffs. How the hell can he be the guy for every game, yet be relegated to backup to Campbell next year and beyond?

The only thing I can think of is that there is already some kind of agreement of a Erik Karlsson trade to Edmonton for a package including Campbell, and they are just going to run with Skinner as their #1 going forward period. Even THEN there is no excuse for the decisions made by Woodcroft. You go with the goalie that gives you the best chance to win. Skinner was that guy a lot of the year, but not in the playoffs.

From a neutral perspective. Boy, Vegas is still the NHL's darlings. All series you saw it. As for how the series played out. Going from Smith to Skinner was actually a downgrade in goal for Edmonton. Not sure I saw that coming. Then again, if Campbell was worth a damn, he would have beaten the rook out for the starting job to succeed Smith in the first place. Vegas, despite opening the series with their #4 in goal, then he goes down and at least their #3 heals up and goes in, they got the better goaltending in this series. Despite what I said about the officiating, though, Vegas deserved this series more. Another year of McJesus's prime, his best season, the best season anyone's had in the last 25 years, has gone to waste.

This loss really still falls on Ken Holland.

Jack Campbell was so bad in the regular season the Oilers didn't bother to even consider starting him, which led to Woodcroft running Skinner constantly even when it was clear the latter didn't have it. Which then leads to him giving up four goals on 16 shots. Even if some of those were tough you need a save there.

Basically no cap room going into the summer. Have fun running it back and probably losing in the first two rounds again..
Yeah I don't see this core getting it done. Too much reliance on the backs of McDrai, and just like last year, they got burned out. At least Draisatl did.

Hyman, RNH, Kane were all disappointing. Nurse is what he is. Bouchard is an absolute offensive weapon but he's in line for a big raise.

Both goalies need to be fired into the sun. I bet there are probably 15 guys in the AHL that deserve a spot over these two
