why would you play your top forwards 5 minutes more than the next line in a game you were up by 3 after 20 minutes. Seriously. Over 21 minutes is a lot for a forward. 2 extra shifts? You are going to go with lying?
Well, "lyingl" is a strong accusation, and actually the assertion wasn't even really inaccurate. A lot the discrepancy is shift length. Just like Buff used to gain a few extra seconds each shift, Scheifele and Connor do the same.

Total shifts in the Vegas game, by forwards:

Scheifele 22
Wheeler 22
Connor 21
Eakin 21
Ehlers 19
Laine 19
Copp 18

I’d say the assertion may have even been more than not even really inaccurate. I’d dare to say it was perhaps accurate.

But enough of those facts. We’re trying to bash the coach in a 4-0 win here.

I actually agree with you. My only criticism with regards to that was that it may have been too late. Deploying Poolman as a top line D was a critical error.
I agree about Poolman but what if Ottawa didn't want to trade DeMelo earlier in the season or wanted a 2nd round pick or more earlier ? I think teams knew Chevy needed defenseman BAD after Buff didn't play and were trying to hit Chevy over the fence with horrible offers hoping Chevy would bite . I know if i was a GM and Chevy came calling that's what i would have done .

Chevy is a genius for bringing in DeMelo basically for free. Trade of the year?

If Chevy can extend him the key is he will likely provide great value cap hit wise for a top 4 asset.

But this criticism, rests on the unknown assumption that the cost of DeMelo was always a 3rd round pick. As a seller Ottawa would have wanted to maximize what they could get for him and most likely original asks were greater than a 3rd round pick, which based on other deadline deals undercut the market a bit. How much more than a 3rd would you have wanted Chevy to pay to get DeMelo a few weeks earlier? A 2nd? A 3rd and a prospect? Maybe a conditional pick if he resigned or the Jets made the playoffs similar to the Eakin's deal?
