The same thing Barrie and Koskenen keeps doing in Islanders deals for Mayfield and/or Varlamov, not belonging but hey who’s counting anymore.

No, asking for Holloway is a ridiculous overpayment. C'mon now.

Stating the Oilers don't have a lot of forwards coming is also not in keeping with reality. They've been really happy with the development of their forward prospects.

I think Mayfield will get the Islanders something really good at the TDL. I think Varlamov really isn't in massive demand at the moment so he won't land much. Maybe the Oilers and the Capitals are sniffing around him. Can't see too many other teams doing that right now.

MAF will either land in Washington or Las Vegas (!) so the market for Varlamov isn't as hot as it could be.

They’re not moving Mayfield for anything short of an overpayment and that PP specialist isn’t one at all, if anything it’s a downgrade and a way to help Edmonton out of its cap troubles this year, same with that backup. A high end prospect is but the there’s no reason to move Mayfield this year or in the summer. His cap hit is minimal and he can play a middle or bottom pairing role consistently without making mistakes.

If Lou moves Varlamov, hopefully it doesn’t involve either Koskinen or Barrie for obvious reasons. If either were included, I’d hope he asks for Holloway+ and drives the price up simply because it hinders the Islanders chances of using the cap space for a true need (scoring forward/LH middle pairing offensive minded defenseman). I’ve stated it numerous times that the Islanders needs prospect-wise are forwards with scoring ability. They have quite a few defensemen in the system that are just about NHL ready so adding more would just just be throwing more into the depth chart. The issue is that Edmonton seems to look slim when it comes to forward prospects (based on cap friendly).
The Oilers are fairly rich on forward prospects imo. Holloway and Bourgault have hit, and we have Savoie, Petrov, and a couple others I believe. Holloway would be the only one that I'd figure is completely unavailable for a trade for Varly, depending on outside factors. But either way, if the D prospects are superior in your opinion, you could accept them and flip them for whatever you want. Same goes with any picks you'd get. You could even get a decent NHL proven forward with these assets, likely someone better than if you were just trading Varlamov alone, especially if in those cases it would likely be from a selling team, and Varly wouldn't agree to that trade.

I am actually fine with not sending a cap dump to the Isles, although if it were Koskinen, isn't that okay, considering the contract expires in a few months? The actual salary on Koskinen by the deadline would be around 1 million.

because he only has 1 year left on his deal and the goalie market I can promise you we won’t be getting a 1st round pick for him. Unless it was a team like Colorado who feels they’re desperate for a goalie and that would bring them a cup. The chances of that though are slim right now.
Why is Colorado desperate for a goalie? Kuemper is 20-1-2 in his last 23 decisions. He has been great in 2022.

You think you get Holloway+ for Varly? I thought Canada had the best dope! Koskinen is on an expiring deal... for a team destined for nowhere, why are you expecting that to be a negative? Holloway in a package is a starting point for Gibson, not Varlamov.
