Complaining about sellouts??? Come on now.
Yes. I was trying to think of all sorts of creative ways to explain the 2nd part of it to the 2 9-year-olds I took to the game today. ("swallows their gum" was the best I could think of ). But I didn't hear the chant at all today. Maybe because we sat downstairs?
you get the award for closest to the true meaning. One letter off.
And for what it's worth, as a long distance fan that didn't grow up with the local rivalry bred into me, the chant is probably why all our games are so low on crowd noise on TV broadcasts because when VS first did our games it was pumped up and I was instantly annoyed with the whistle start to it every 5 minutes - IF THAT. Then to hear it when we weren't even playing either team it just came off as lame and way too repetitive. As if everyone wanted to claim to be the guy that "started it - did you hear me? LOLZ!" Yeah, not so much.
I hate the idiot component of it, and I say to my dad quite often "don't you miss those nice, cozy nights of 12,000 people at a Devils game?" But I know its better this way. I just wish when its sold out it would be more like the atmosphere/crowds we had in the playoffs than we had today, or some of the other sellouts this year. To be fair, a couple of them were great crowds and not just a building full of tools, so I can't throw all of this year's crowds under the bus.
Wait a minute... this team has BANDWAGONERS...? *YOUDON'TSAY.jpeg*
Be thankful they're contributing to the noise. Our fan base has been embarrassed by lackluster (AKA 12,000, sit-on-their-hands, glare-at-the-ones-trying-to-start-chants-and-support-the-team people) crowds for too long.
It sickens me people are now complaining about them. Instead of complaining, how about trying to teach them about the sport of hockey and the team NJ Devils? Fans from before our Cup winning years did the same for new fans who hopped on the bandwagon in 95, 2000, 2001 (yes even then) and 2003. Guess what? THOSE FANS ARE NOW DIEHARDS. Even if they don't want to admit it.
Yes yes yes yes yes.
We need to stop the 2nd part of that chant.
Keep it at Rangers suck, the 2nd part is ridiculously bad on every level.I hope it was not too loud today with all of the kids there.
I would be fine with doing away with ‘rangers suck’ as well. but the flyers line makes me cringe every time I hear it…and its not like I haven’t said some downright sick and depraved things in jest before…but not in front of kids. to me, its truly embarrassing…and to be honest, I don’t even remember when it started. kovy’s first playoffs here? either way- I don’t know how to stop it but it should be stopped.
I hope the 2nd part of the chant eventually is phased out naturally, but all I can do is not participate in it and try to convince others who I know around my seats not to do it.
I know some fans that will start Let's Go Devils chants when they hear someone starting to whistle (sabotage style).
I've definitely tried to do that before. Sometimes you can only do so many chants when it's done every 5 minutes.
maybe an email to the devils? kind of what they did for homo larry or whatever he was called?
I can see the email they would send out now..
Devils Army, your passion has led to our _-_-_ record at home, and we thank you! While we appreciate your intentions, please refrain from chants including vulgar language. We want to make Devils games an enjoyable event for fans of all ages! blah blah blah PR is easy as balls blah blah
What are we all children? Our job as fans is to make the place a horrific place to play for opposing teams because it gives our boys an advantage.
What should we chant?
"AFTER LOOKING AT RECENT STATISTICS WE ARE MARGINALLY BETTER THAN THE FLYERS!" clap clap clap clap clap.
Or should we all sit on our hands which is what it seems like most of you want anyway.
Who is saying that?
Also there's a differene between making it a "horrific place" and just being downright nasty with disgusting chants.
The NFL addressed this growing problem - now there's a number to text message on the back of the seats to report people who are drunk, belligerent or using obscene language around families and children. You just text their section and seat number and security comes down and looks on or escorts them out. I'm sure that's the end result coming because some people can't exercise good judgement or know when enough is enough.
"Downright nasty with disgusting chants" ... really? American sports fans are such babies. FLYERS fans are the nicest people on the planet compared to the most well behaved European soccer crowd. Our fans can't even get a Let's Go Devils chant right as it's distorted and out of sync after five seconds.
If downright disgusting and nasty is the feeling you get when you hear the words "suck" and "swallow" then I don't know what to tell you. We have a "supporters section" where people in the last row might stand and everyone else will complain about a loud horn or other people standing. We have a long way to go.
What are we all children?
One day when you grow up and realize how many children attend our games and you have to be the one to explain to them why fans chant that, then maybe you'll understand.
