Byram was a 4th overall pick, and has already logged top minutes on a Stanley Cup winning roster as a 20 year old.
Why would Avs trade him for 6th/7th overall and what could be a pretty mediocre pick in 2025 (for example 16th overall, as Newhook was)?

Yeah, why would Vancouver need a really talented 21 year defenceman who was instrumental in the Avs winning a Stanley Cup last year?
Give the Canucks some more magic beans please! There’s no risk with defencemen that go that high in the draft…just look at Juolevi!
My outside opinion is that Byram is worth a lot more than that (to both clubs).

Trying to trade him for fantili or mitchkov will make for colorado enough cap space for keeping all players and in adding a young players can make them more dangerous and keep them competitive in 3 to 5 years

Horrible for Colorado. Why trade a young up and coming top pairing defenseman for what might be a star player in 3-5 years? A 6-10th overall pick has a good chance of likely being just another Newhook anyway.
If Byram is moving to Vancouver, Pettersson is moving to Colorado.
And why would a rebuilding team drafting top5 would trade said pick for a soon to he 30yo forward making 9M/ year instead of drafting Fantilli
Vancouver has one asset that Colorado would make Byram available for, and it's not the 2023 1st.

And by the time those team get out of the gutter he'll be near 30 and requesting a new contract, what's your point exactly?
Landeskog has value for a team between 9-15 to help for a playoff push. He holds next to no value to a team like the Habs, the Yotse, the Hawks etc who are just starting their rebuild.

My point was that he's not close to 30. Agreed that a rebuilding team should draft and continue to suck for the next few years instead of trying to be better.

Cool, if QH was on the table I feel like it's the same, Byram comes for EP then it costs the AV's a lot more.
