Vancouver led the league in points at Christmas, Can they continue this run into the New Year?

I never mentioned any underlying stats... I am just calling out that the Canucks aren't top of the league because they beat teams like LA, Vegas, NYR, Bos, Col, Toronto or even Wpg. Not saying they can't beat those teams... but something they have yet to show.

So far, majority games have been against teams on the bottom half of the league (19 game vs 16 games), where 16 out of 19 games were against the bottom 10 in the league...
Well 19 to 16 games is not a huge difference. So we faced a bad team 3 times more throughout the season so far. In fact this actually supports Canucks being a good team. The way some people talked about Canucks facing bad teams or only SJ, I thought we never faced a good team so far.

When did I ever say advanced stat is too subjective to trust? Please point out where I said that? I even said advanced stats are helpful and could be used as an aid but not to be used as the only tool to determine if a player is bad or a team sucks. Am saying you have to use everything in your disposal to make an accurate analysis. Check the regular stats, check the underlying stats, watch the games carefully and make your own conclusions. People who keep putting down Canucks based on underlying stats probably haven't watched a minute of a Canucks game. How can I trust that type of analysis when am watching all the canucks games, every minute of it and seeing a completely different picture being painted regarding Canucks from rival fans or eastern fans that probably don't watch much of the Canucks games?
You're a Canucks fan, you'll say whatever agrees with your preconceived notions.

You're willfully ignorant.

But I get, as a long suffering Canucks fan you'll grab on to any idea, no matter how flawed, to keep hope alive that your new found success is anything but fleeting.
To keep hope alive?? Canucks fans don't need to hope anymore, they can just look at the NHL standings. I think hope is for Oilers fans right now who need it to climb in the standings.

I think based on predicted vs actual, Edmonton fans would be the long suffering fan base? I mean they have a top 10 player and only have what? 1 more playoff series win than the Canucks in recent years?

I honestly can't keep track of any point you attempt to make. It changes every post. Now it's about "hope"?

I thought the original discussion was about the Canucks and their unsustainable play.

What about being a Canuck hater? No preconceived notions? I mean there is bias against the Canucks if your are going that far to nitpick underlying stats while not give Canucks credit of what they have done so far this season.

Wow, it's almost like you're reinforcing my point that the "I watch the games" argument is so inherently flawed in reality it's meaningless.

You are the one that brought up hope lol. Read your own post please. Am just saying why Canucks need to keep hope alive when they are on top? What would be the reason? Even with regression do you really think Canucks will miss playoffs? With almost 50 points in 35 games?? Unless there will be a disaster of unseen proportions, the Canucks don't need hope to keep anything alive even if they go 0.500 throughout the remaining games.

So far, Canucks are 14-5 (19 games) against teams in the bottom half of the league while they are only 9-7 (16 games) against teams in the top half of the league.
Do you have any reason to believe a record like this wouldn't be typical of one of the top 2-3 teams in the league?

Also Canucks are top of the league in games played. Their points/game are not leading the league.

I kept seeing this comment over and over when I came into the thread, to the point where I thought they must be at least 6th in points percentage.

Nope, first in their conference and second across the entire league. Why are people getting so hung up on this?

Amazing how small an amount of success was necessary for Nucks fans to remind the rest of the league why the Vancouver fans were universally reviled circa 2011....

Honestly we enjoy being the villain/hated.

We don't want other people to like us or our team. It's what made the early to mid 2000's so fun.

Bring on the haters, Canucks are back baby.

We dont much care who likes us and doesn't like us. As long as Alberta sucks in which you do, that's all that matters to us.
Even without that level of success, most of the hockey universe enjoys watching Edmonton fail, so it’s really not that bad . It’s kind of the “wait and see what stupid thing they do next” franchise of the NHL
