The Boys better play with a vengence and get this win! and revenge the injury of Bolland

Please win, for ONCE and I mean for ONCE I dont want this team to do their usual "slumpbuster" tactics. If that does happens, Burrows get a hat-trick and Canucks bully us in our own arena

But with my positive prediction I say 4-0 Leafs! Kessel and JVR will put in work, and Bernie will get a shutout for playing so awesome the past couple of games.

As a person from a western family, who was raised in Toronto, and now lives in Vancouver, I think I can understand both sides. I won't go into the political and economic roots. (Though I understand them. Half my grandfather's farm was seized by the ancestor of TD Canada Trust in the dirty thirties.). Hockey wise, I think the main thing is the media attention focused on the Leafs despite their frequent hockey irrelevance. It's a function of market size, of course, but it still galls people. The fact that there are thousands upon thousands of people like me, Leaf fans living in Canuckland, also irritates a lot of people.

Two of the very worst "journalists" in any market I know make matters worse. Tony Gallagher, a print reporter who moonlights for the sports station 1040, is very irritating. It's not just that he has a voice made for mime. It's that he is a tinfoil hat, watch out for the black helicopters conspiracy theorist. When there is some minor controversy, he explains it as a plot by either Toronto or New York or both to do down the Canucks. That gets some of the Nuck faithful going.

The other guy is Dave Pratt, whose family name in British slang is deadly accurate. He is the Rob Ford of radio sports. It's not just his figure or his well known indulgence in the bottle. He goes on violent rants that do resemble Ford under the influence. A segment of the market laps it up, which probably explains why he remains employed despite a series of, well, Ford lite issues.

Sports radio does appeal to mouth breathers in a lot of markets so none of this is unique to Vancouver. It's just that this slice of the market seems larger here.

But most if us will just go for a walk by the ocean and enjoy the sight if the mountains. PS. An eagle flew right by my window yesterday morning.

I just read one of Pratt's blogs, wow

The Leafs are always relevant in NHL talk. In every aspect. We're the leagues biggest draw with fans from coast to coast.

Its like ignoring the Yankees and their impact on baseball.

Is this the most one sided "rivalry" in the league? I didn't even know how much their fans hated us till a few years ago.

We usually lose to crappy teams (FLA, BUF, etc.) and right now Canucks are cream of the crap. Hopefully we cruise to a win though.

Don't play Smithson.

Dress one of McLaren/Orr with Bodie playing the RW, one of the goons should go after that punk Kassian for Bolly.

Remember back when Kassian was with Buffalo and there were all these rumors about him for Keith Aulie? Yeah...

It's not just hockey. Vancouver has the little brother complex about Toronto. They continually go on about how they are the best place on earth but for some reason are completely obsessed with Toronto.

Which is why I talked about "market size" as an explanation of the media focus on the Leafs. But I think if we are talking about hockey as what goes on on the ice and the results in the standings, yeah, I think irrelevance is a proper word for many, many seasons, especially in the Ballard era.

Though it may be too polite.

Hmm. Leafs on a 10-2-1 run? Canucks on a 6 game losing streak? I smell an obvious blowout win for Vancouver tonight. Burrows will get his first goal, without a doubt. Luongo with the shutout.

They should just make the WC jerseys our official 3rd:

@HennyTweets
Leafs will wear classic jerseys for the 3rd and final time this season. They're 2-0. Bernier expected to start. Leafs last beat van in 2003.
