Just my feeling, but I find our big stars are just as guilty wasting their own time as any roster circumstances. They are still the same group that had to hero rally vs CBJ on the cusp of elimination and then didn't even bother showing up for the winner take all game.

Not to mention, taking the team for every cent possible left little remaining to surround them with quality support. They get no sympathy from me. They might hold every individual scoring record in Leafs history by the time they retire, but I suspect they'll be missing the one trophy that matters most.

By the look of things, we can't patch the holes on this roster to make a legit run in 2024... so if they fall out of the playoffs all you can only get your house in order for 2025, 2026, beyond.

Lol just like Gilmour, Sundin, Clarke. I actually do think this group will eventually win. I think it’ll be after 2025, once that Tavares contract is off. It’ll be a reset with younger players. I think eventually they will figure it out and get 1 cup.

In hindsight we signed Tavares to way too much money. I think if you could ask Shanny candidly, he’d admit to it. I think they would have pushed to sign Tavares under 10 mill if given the chance

2024 NHL Free Agents

Here’s the list of free agents for defenseman. I’m assuming some resign but fixing the d might be a challenge. Trading might be our best option but with the lack draft capital we got to hope teams love our prospects.

Yeah. That's a huge reason why I hate the stars and peasants make up of our team. We have no middle ground players to trade from. That only leaves picks and prospects, which has lead us to this point.

Take the Canucks, they could probably use Garland or Kuzmenko for a hockey trade. We have to either trade away 11mil players or 19 bucks an hour players.

It is looking more and more like this Toronto team is going to miss the playoffs.

Canucks looked like a team that wants to compete for the Cup, the Leafs looked like a team that wants to compete to get to the off season as quickly as possible. The fusterating part is the GM is doing nothing to help the team and the coach is incapable of doing anything to help the team. It feels a lot like this team is the nautical equivalent of a boat with a broken motor floating in the middle of the ocean, floating aimlessly. No power to do anything they want to do.

Watching this group, I'm pretty much at the point of "sim to offseason," just hope they don't burn up assets on short term patch jobs if it means taking away assets from the next few seasons.

I'm gonna try to refrain talking about the Canucks too much but the reason the canucks are alot better this year is we overhauled our defense with the addition of Cole, Soucy,Hronek,and Zadorov, then we added quality bottom 6 players like Suter, blueger, and Hoglander progressing has definitely helped, and mainly Demko is healthy this year, which he wasn't at all last season until like the last quarter of the season. As to how this relates to the Leafs I think a coaching change will help but I believe that goaltending, defense, and bottom six depth should be the main concern.

That costs money and we spend all our money on 5 players.

Well I’m a minority btw. So I do believe that building departments where you have women, people of colour and just skilled people of all races is important. Don’t really think that’s a “woke” thing. Vancouver has two female AGM’s and they are dominating the league. Having women in hockey isn’t a bad thing, especially if they played at a high level.

Leafs forwards can't be beat 4 times in 7 games if they get a goalie. People wanting to sell need to sign off for the night. Just 1 move is needed to secure things and you want to sell instead.

Never in my life, did I think that Brendan Shananan, the dude who got into fight with 3 Russian in WJC 87 would be so soft in so many ways

Oh, there are more than a few things to dislike about LL, but that's one of the strengths. It's the 3rd time he's done it as well. Change the coach when the feeling with the team wasn't right.

As for Shanny, I don't know. He seems to think he carries himself as this well-thought-out and patient hockey executive, but it's really just a front.

We need to use the 17 million coming off the books from Brodie, Bertuzzi, Domi and Klingberg to rebuild our defense. The leafs are in a decent spot this off-season to revamp the roster but you have to hit on the right dmen.

That’s way too many holes for a team we’ve been told is a Cup Contender and building for 10 years. Teams win and retool in 10 years, not win 1 round in that time and teter on the edge of making/missing the playoffs. Poor management.

Yes. I think with a new guess coach and some changes/improvements to the defensive core. I do believe Matthews, Marner, Rielly and Nylander will win one cup together before they retire.

I don’t think Tavares will be around for that though

In order to rebuild the defense, we have to go the UFA route as we have painfully limited assets to trade for help.

You always overpay for a UFA. I cannot see this direction helping with the team's cap situation at all.
